Dragons compared to villains like Tirek

Seriously, after fighting villains like Tirek, dragons shouldn't frighten the heroes that much, right. Oh, sure, they breathe fire, but Tirek? He stole all of the magic in Equestria until he had enough power to lay waste to everything in his way. Dragons are pussycats compared to a fully powered Tirek.

They are afraid of both, so I don't see the point of compare them to each other.  If I stood before a creature ten times as big as me, that could breath fire and hated me I would be afraid also.

True, chances are even Torch would get bodied hard by Tirek in his full power. Celestia and Luna are easily dragon level despite the writing staff wanting you to think they are about as powerful as a legless frog, Starlight and Twilight should be able to defeat dragons (Starlight vs Malwarf(?) was stupid, Starlight clearly didn't do everything she could) but I think the fear comes from more of "if we kill Garble, all of the dragons will likely attack Equestria" or "if we fight a dragon, tons of innocent ponies could be murdered"

If you can cannonball into several hundred degrees of molten rock without consequences and crush gems with your bare teeth, I don't think a big centaur dude and unicorn "tickle" rays are gonna do much damage. Play it smart and you can easily reduce them all to ash.

Ha, no, Tirek is unbelievably powerful, his trading card labels him as a world destroyer (lowball) when he fought Twilight, and he got 3ish times more powerful after that, Celestia and Luna have star level feats, and Twilight and Starlight could use much more than basic lasers, mind control, high speed flight, teleportation, transfiguration, Starlight duplicated herself and was able to move at super fast speeds. Also, Flurry Heart was able to blast through solid building crystal casually, and Twilight can block those blasts with her shield.

In all accounts, higher level unicorns and most villains like NMM, Sombra, Tirek, (ESPECIALLY DISCORD) should be able to stomp most dragons.

Tirek could only be defeated by a one-time power up. They haven't used rainbow power since, so I doubt if they ran into a dragon they could pull it out then.

Agreed. The only reason no one's tried to fight dragons is because of primal fear. Before we bring Dragonshy into account, I would like to point out that Rainbow Dash was being rash and not thinking things through.

I like to imagine there is a lore reason for fearing dragons so much to the point where beings like Starlight and Twilight (who should be able to defeat dragons with pure hax) fear them, perhaps before Equestria and even the 3 major tribes were founded the Dragons ruled all the land, and Ponies had to fight everyday for survival, so there is a natural fear present in ponies.

People like to flaunt CC as the end-all-be-all weapon against non-pones but there are a few problems:

-CC is never used effectively against named opponents. For the amount of bloodthirsty monsters and spellusers with tragic pasts inhabiting Equestria and its adjacent areas, there seems to be a surprising shortage of mind-controlled chipmunks running around. In fact, the only time such spells even work is in lesson-specific environment.

-CC has been depicted as transient and very ineffective against adult mythical beasts (JoTS). In other words, CC is also used to demonstrate the indomitable nature of monsters similarly to how it is used as plot device/comic relief in SOL episodes.

-Even if it did work you'd still need to channel it in melee range of a moving giant dragon. Gods forbid it is physically and mentally prepared to disrupt your magical bullshit. It's like saying duct tape works on saltwater crocks. GL HF!

-Discord is a personification of FIM CC. He can do stuff until he can't. Makes you wonder though why no other species had problems with him. Guess Equestrian villains are to dragons what "gunshot," "screams," and "explosion" are to Sleeping Shaq. Stealing yo hoard is the real shit

-I wonder what would happen to Discord if you would destroy a pony town and then challenge him to prevent the chaos you yourself are inflicting upon Equestria by bringing all things back into order. Even if he turns your destruction into his chaos you can still challenge him by stating your chaos is better ... But let's face it: he ain't that smart. It would not come to it as long as you'd imply he cannot reverse chaos.

-Quartz crystals have their melting point only some three hundred degrees up from hottest magma, plus they are relatively brittle.

-Magical rays in combat are not shown to have spectacular penetrative ability. In fact, human tech is superior in this regard.

-The sheer stress a living thing would have to endure by even jumping into molted rock and the muscle power one would have to possess to then swim in it is beyond what any known equine/humanoid lifeform can muster.  Such a skeleton-muscle-scale system acts like composite armor that can absorb and dissipate vast amounts of kinetic and thermal energy. Not to mention that even small whelps like Ember can breathe fire capable of destroying large rocks. In order to harbor such destructive power within your upper respiratory tract you need to be built like a fortress from inside out. Spellcasters can produce their death rays on the spot so they don't need to physically contain destructive spells within their very bodies.

-Ponies and Tirek have their barriers, but they still need to breathe and cast spells that reduce their protection. Fighting a dragon, you'll sooner or later end up in the middle of a conflagration, with heat and toxic smoke impeding your vision, concentration, and oxygenation. Lower your shield at a wrong time, or teleport at a wrong spot and you're literally toast. Dragons seem to be resistant to all such environmental hazards they themselves can create in a jiffy.

 

Limits of MP:

-Casters have their mana pools. They need to burst down their opponents before they run out of juice, which means they have to concentrate on offense while using as little magic for flying/teleportation/barriers as possible. That is thrice as true when fighting a giant monster meat shield that relies on easily executed and repeatable physical attacks.

-Ponies are no warriors. They'd be teleporting and flying around ... until they wouldn't. None of them has ever been in a prolonged fight with a genuine murderous monster; they never learned how to conserve their energy or how to cast efficient destructive spells that can give kaiju pause.

 

Kaiju vs. Jaeger:

-This goes to Tirek as he's big, meaty and has enough juice to burn Equestria to the ground. However, his destructive power is channeled through the same narrow horn port unicorns use. He's like Protoss Colossus with a single thermal lance and better shield while a dragon is a fire-breathing Ultralisk with wings. Plus Tirek is slow while an adult dragon can almost catch up to a trained pegasus. What happens when such a monster grapples the centaur, barrier and all, preventing those horns form being directed into its scaly armor? I bet those jaws can crunch through a boulder-size diamond ... or a barrier around a thick bovine neck.

-It took Tirek relatively long to lift a single puny pony with magic and he couldn't even attempt to squish her. Can he do better with an angry volcano? What else can he do? Fist punch? Knight or mage, barrier or no barrier, you don't wanna fight a kaiju without some damn good armor.

At the risk of sounding like a complete noob, what does "CC" stand for?

On my current updated list of strongest MLP charcaters I merely put Torch who should be stronger than Adult Form Spike at only 39 out of 45. They don't seem to have much impressive feats.

Tirek has more power to simply "burn Equestria to the ground" even without the card statement, he could easily destroy the entire planet

Most ponies can't take on dragons, most people won't dispute that, but the alicorns, Starlight, Twilight, they have enough raw magical power and prowess in spells to handle the majority of dragons, Starlight knows all these spells by heart now and can quickly think of the most radical decisions.

We don't know the limits of lasers, they can be capable of murder or simply knocking something out, it depends on how much power you put into it. 

If you destroyed an entire town and Discord replace it he wouldnt lose his power or life like in Discordant Harmony, that came from him completely changing everything about himself, Discord had no magic at all and was able to be perfectly fine in the hive. Discord can spawn volcanoes, casually create dimensions, move celestial bodies with ease

Even Celestia and Luna have Star level feats, and we know nothing about the power of dragons other then they fact they are big, strong, dumb, and can breathe fire and survive in lava. I don't think that will save them when Discord spawns a giant mountain on top of them, or transforms their fire breath into milk, or makes the dragon turn into a butterfly, people downplay Discord because reformed Discord is pretty much just that, a downplayed Discord as he can't showcase his power anymore.

What would a dragon do exactly in an area where a powerful pony could hide and use the terrain to her advantage (I say her because the only ponies who could defeat dragons are females) 

Twilight is capable of freezing dozens of ponies at a time, Starlight, and Twilight by extension, can teleport from Equestria, to the changeling hive, which as far as we know is an entirely different continent as it is not on any map of Equestria

Dragons are stupid, Starlight has advanced mind control, I doubt a dragon could counter it

Twilight as I said has displayed the ability to freeze others easily, she was able to levitate an Ursa minor when she was far far far far FAR weaker than she is now.

 

Twilight, Starlight, Discord, the princesses, most villains, should be able to handle the majority of dragons, I mean hell give Rainbow Dash the Titus and a squad of Pegasi and apparently she could take on two powerful dragons with just lightning.

Here is the list I made. I'm glad I'm not the only person who likes making list like these and sharing them. I'm also going to update the list and make it top 50 after the season 7 finale, the movie and the comics. Also it's no longer the MLP universe it's a Multiverse now remember.

I don't think Tirek is above Rainbow Power, nor do I think Tirek is more powerful than Discord, but it works on the list because as you said, Tirek absorbed the mane 5, which are pretty much anti Discord, although discounting the mane 5s magic, Discord has created entire realities

Starlight is not more powerful than Celestia and Luna, she merely knows many types of cutie mark magic, she is pretty much on par with Twilight and that has been shown I think twice now in the series

Radiant Hope specializes in healing magic, which is why she can heal Sombra faster than he could regenerate himself.

I think the EQG Dazzlings are more powerful than Midnight Sparkle because they actually overpowered the EQG Rainbow Power. Which should be far superior compared to the Elements of Harmony which was what Midnight Sparkle used to transform.

I didn't put Tirek above the Rainbow Power I think you meant Elements of Harmony. Also in the comics it's been explained that Discord draws power from his Chaos Realm which was why he lost all his magic when Pinkie Pie took over the realm and obtained chaos magic. Currently the only character that has remotely shown anything close to universal feats is the Bookworm who can eat entire Storyworld realities and turn them into a void.

I think Starlight is stronger than the Royal Sisters due to the fact that she has spells that can affect them. And also she was already shown to be slightly above Twilight during the season 5 finale while she was angry. Currently she is able to contend with Alicorn Twilight in a sparring match without being angry which means her current magic power in base is around slightly above the Alicorns so if she's emotional she might surpass all of them in a 1 on 1 Magic contest.

While it's true that Radiant Hope specializes in Healing magic it's also shown that she has a large magic pool. She was able to harm Celestia after she had used up lots of magic to restore Sombra. Which is why I think she might have magic power that is on par with King Sombra if not almost near the amount of the Crystal Heart.

Ive kinda been debating about it and after what you just said. I think I've decided to put Queen Chrysalis below Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker.

It took me a while I'd say roughly one week of rereading the comics and rewatching the show.

Rainbow Power also seemed way weaker in the human world, I think it has something to do with Twilight not being "destined" for that mane 6 like Sunset it, which is why the second Sunset came in a giant super pony god thing showed up.

And yes I did mean to say Elements, I think the Elements could have handled him.

Yeah, that comic definitely has some issues though that could render it not canon, with the direct reference to Nightmare Rarity, but now that I recall you aren't going with the annoying comics canon/aren't canon thing, I think his placing is fair, though he still has some crazy feats in the comics.

Starlight definitely has latent potential, lots of it, but at the same time I don't feel like we have ever seen what Celestia can truly do because well...because the writers won't let her be a badass.

Though what you put still works as more of the ones I had contention with were more speculative.

I think that every artifact that has been brought to the human world is limited to only 0.1% of its power. But the Rainbow Power should still be superior to the Elements of Harmony in both worlds.

Going by the comics Discord did have a feat of creating a pocket universe in MLP Friends Forever for the CMCs. But im not sure how big it is I think it just had some stars and other thing similar to the story world Bookworm ate. Also I'm pretty sure the Nightmare Rarity arc didn't have anything major that contradicts canon. 

I'm pretty sure we've already seen the full extents of Celestia's power in the Reflections comic arc. She was angered at her other self that she hurt Luna so she kinda got bloodlusted and even than both of them still got casually trapped by the Alternate King Sombra. Which shows that her power is definitely below that of characters that could defeat Alicorns.

Hm, the Elements are pretty much the main power source for the Elements, the Tree has enough raw power to hold off Discords magic for 1000+/- a few hundred years, but with the elements it is basically completely unstoppable. Rainbow Power is power from the Tree of Harmony destined for the mane 6. I don't think it could have given them Rainbow Power without the elements, so I imagine the elements are stronger or on the exact same level.

Though I can see the argument for Rainbow Power being stronger, as it is more the true power of the mane 6s friendship brought out by the Tree of Harmony.

Yeah many people have been saying its durability does not scale to its power so Flurry Heart shouldn't be that high. And I agree but I didn't change it encaustic otherwise it wouldn't be top 45. I'll change it after the finale and movie are out and when more characters are introduced.
