One enemy to unite them all?

When the series eventually ends, it should go out with a major bang. Is their any force outside Equestria that could unite all races into an allied army? One that could get Ponies, Griffins, Dragons, Changelings, Yaks and Buffalos to fight side by side, in mutual respect and friendship? 

 

For there to to be true peace, and friendship for all races, there needs to be a battle that makes them realize that they are all connected,  not one of those "It's your problem, not ours"

There is only one enemy that could ever be that much of a threat, and it is basically 100% impossible for them to return with all the current levels of friendship that are going about. You know who I am talking about.

Please, even Tirek is terrified of, you know who. Stop pretending to not know who I am talking about. The worst part is that most ponies don't even think they are real, that they are just a little filly's story told to little colts and fillys to scare them during Hearths Warming to get them to behave for their parents. But Whirlwindmark, I can tell you now that they are all too real, and if the friendship between Unicorns, Earthponies and Pegasi were to ever Wane too greatly, if the ponies of equestria and their allies ever allow themselves to become bitter and forget the lessons of friendship they have learned over the thousands of years of peace they have enjoys so greatly, THEY WILL RETURN!, and bring about an age of silence, and frost for they are all too real and can return if friendship is lost.

If Equestria's allies were to unite, I'd say it would be against Tirek and all the dark forces from Tartarus all teaming up! All those monsters are in there for a reason, and a good fraction of them could be really powerful! Grogar could be in Tartarus as well!

I'm still holding out hope that Grogar and the haunted city of Tambelon plays a similar role to that. In G1 he was actually a VERY competent villain and sorcerer; being able to successfully capture a number of ponies on his own. Granted he had his bumbling minions & such, but accomplished more than G1 Tirek did, and the city of Tambelon itself was actually kinda creepy. Would love to see a G4 Grogar be such a  threat that the heroes would have to unite as such.

Okay, I came into this thread thinking that an epic battle would be an unfitting end to the series, but fighting off Windigos has serious potential.

Nah, for a 'final villain', Windigoes would have to be mere flunkies by comparison.  Yeah, you heard me right.  The MLP equivalent of Gnosis from Xenosaga (basically creatures that can't normally be physically harmed, and can tear apart entire fleets of ships in minutes) would be minor foot soldiers under the control of the real villain.  It would have to come down to two things, uniting all of Equestria, and locating and defeating the main villain.

And honestly, the series doesn't necessarily need to end with this either.  There is always an escalation factor in fiction, as long as the production team doesn't run out of ideas.  Maybe the 'main villain' is defeated and someone worse is pulling the strings, possibly setting up an entire season where the stakes are higher than ever before and the mane characters have to apply all the lessons they've been learning in order to overcome the new challenges.

The Griffons, Dragons, Changelings,Yaks, and Equestria band together to fight them

During the final battle we will see every loved or major character in the series, from Celestia to Cheese Sandwich. With backround appearances from Tempest, Capper, Celeano, etc.

Speaking of Grogar... my newest headcanon is that the Umbrum (Sombra's race, according to the comics) were originally created during one of his dark-magic experiments, but ended up going rogue and then finding their way to the Crystal Empire (cue the events of FIENDship Is Magic, the S3 premiere, and then Siege Of The Crystal Empire).
