IMO, First Aid, politics and economics/personal finances should be mandatory classes in schools. That stuff is more practical than algebra.

I must have forgotten my fimfiction login credentials, but that was actually a surprisingly pleasant little read, @Longhaul. There's a nuance to introducing fan characters to the show's continuity that doesn't really find its way to most fanfiction but I think you have the hang of it. Longhaul's character reminds me a lot of Big Mac, all yoked up and ready for a long day of quietly moving things to and from here and there- certainly very relatable and believable. I wonder now how many other little ponies toil away in the dark and pray to Luna for her providence.

Not bad, mine gratitude. Work's over, one pass editing of the chapter is done, more tonight. Ready to hit the road home

That’s good. I’ll be going to work a little later today. Good luck with the writing. I need to work more on mine.

Thank you, I'm very glad you enjoyed reading it.  There may be more stories coming down the line, I just need to figure out the basics, and get myself motivated to write. I do suspect a certain alicorn princess of the night would be happy to give my hind end a swift boot to get me going again.

I used them back in college so I had some prior experience and I did a ton of research before getting this iMac.

The main reason I made the switch was because I simply was getting tired of Windows. Windows 10 has been a big joke to me and I kept looking with envy at Mac users who didn't have to deal with all of these nonstop issues. Everything on Mac just feels more intelligently designed and things just work better. After some thinking I started to realize the only thing that was keeping me on Windows was gaming and I was more or less done gaming on PC. Most of the games I want to play have come out on PS4 or Switch which I already own.

I had been struggling with my hatred for Windows 10 for a while now and I had given them a good two years to improve but I don't really feel any major improvements, instead Windows 10 feels really mediocre.

I see. Yes, Windows 10 is a joke. That is no lie!

That sounds understandable. I remember I wanted to get an iMac back in like 2011.
The industrial design aspects are clearly there.

Haven't you experienced any lack of support from certain developers regarding MacOS?

Non-stop issues like what? Windows 10 is perfectly fine and the issues that I have ran into are either my fault or hardware problems.

I'm sorry if this is arguing or something but I just want to understand.

It's just you pay the price for this premium experience sadly.

I mean it goes without saying that any OS that doesn't command the 80%+ marketshare that Windows has you will get devs that don't want to make Mac versions but there is almost always a way to get it working on Mac or a Mac alternative, and worst case scenario you can just put Windows as a dualboot on your Mac.

Nah I'm not offended at all! For most users Windows is a necessity since gaming is a thing, but I don't game on my computer anymore so there was nothing tethering me to Windows anymore.

My biggest issues were stuff like:

  • I do not like how Windows has become bloated with nagware. I shouldn't have to go and turn stuff off every time Microsoft does a major update to get Windows to stop trying to "inform" me that Edge is Faster than other browsers (even though it isn't) or popups on my Windows Explorer to enlighten me that I don't have a OneDrive set up (maybe because I don't want one?) Even the start menu (if I can call it that anymore) is loaded with ads on my general user experience. I literally don't want any of my system resources hogged up to inform me of any of this stuff.
  • Microsoft's stock apps suck now. Microsoft Movies was a mistake and Microsoft Groove was a bigger mistake. My favorite part about Groove is how occasionally if you accidentally open a file in it, it likes to hold that file hostage and refuse to let you edit it until you restart your computer. I also love how Groove crashes.
  • Windows is more unstable now than ever and I am certain it's not a hardware problem because I own 4 Windows 10 machines and all of them like to have random crashes for no reason. Not to mention it doesn't even ask me to update anymore when it's going to restart my computer, I have gone to the bathroom and come back to Windows basically updating itself without permission and interrupting what I was doing.
  • Microsoft continually tries to switch my default apps to Microsoft ones which suck. No I don't want to use Edge, stop trying to force it on me.
  • Windows has turned into a RAM hog. 8GB of RAM is hardly enough to run Windows anymore because it seems to devour RAM just idling there.
  • Microsoft's customer support is abysmal.
  • Blue screens, blue screens, blue screens. Nothing sucks more than Windows just deciding to blue screen when you were in the middle of important work.
  • Optimization on Mac is significantly better. 32GB of RAM on my iMac gets stretched a lot farther because everything isn't designed to devour RAM like a RAM hungry demon from the underworld.
  • I use my computer for productivity a lot so any blue screens or crashes are huge set backs for me. One crash in a month can cost you an entire day's work. Macs don't crash as often.

Just to name a few reasons. Now I wouldn't recommend a Mac for everyone. Naturally if you play games you pretty much should stick with PC, however if you want a machine for productivity with a high reliance and uptime, Mac is the better option if you are willing to spend the money.

There is a lot of misinformation and misleading info about Mac out there like how "they are underpowered for their price" but that is... Very misleading:

  • The reality is that most specs actually don't translate to better performance in real world use. In theory a Windows machine with the same processor as an iMac should perform better, but it seldom does because optimization on Windows is low due to requiring to be used on many hardware specifications.
  • A lot of what Apple is using is actually intelligent such as I see Windows users all the time say that they can get RAM clocked at 3200MHz thinking it's inherently better... Yeah but the problem is most CPUs don't actually support higher than 2666MHz by default, etc. A lot of the power you pay for on a custom windows machine is overkill that you'll never use.

Etc.

You could've given Linux/Ubuntu a try, that's supposed to be the best OS if you're looking to branch out from Windows.

Since it's open source there's so much more you can do with it than Windows & MacOS combined. It's worth looking into if you're into heavy customization, programming, networking technology or even hacking if that's your thing.

Just some friendly advice, lad. :mlp_smug:

Those are all valid concerns but I want to say with what my experiences are. I know I won't change your mind on what you bought but I want to lay out what I think.

The ONLY bluescreens that I have gotten on Windows 10 were due to my motherboard failing, it's true that it didn't really tell you that my motherboard was failing due to it saying it was driver issues but Windows doesn't exactly do that.

Windows has barely ever consumed that much RAM for me. I am a power user and I always have more than enough RAM. I have DDR3 16gb at home on my desktop and DDR4 8gb on my laptop right now. Neither of them have problems with managing ram. I always have more than enough.

I do agree with you that the random Windows updates are annoying but you can always turn those off or you can install updates manually yourself whenever you want to.

I also agree that the stock apps are fucking disgusting. The Microsoft store is not that good since it's like an app store for a phone. I the start menu is pretty annoying but with a little tweak you can get rid of that ugly start menu easily. You can even get back the Windows 7 start menu if you so wish with another little tweak.

I am also pretty sure you can uninstall OneDrive or have it stop nagging at you. It's a pretty easy process to do and it's not that much of a hassle.

For me, there are tiny problems with Windows 10 but also for me, I have MANY more problems with Apple products (like them being proprietary, not being able to change around parts due to it being soldered to the motherboard, etc...)

In my opinion, if I were to ditch Windows, I would go with a good Linux distro and have a grand ol' time.
