I'm not sure, I've been away for a while. :(

We noticed, yes. Fair few other absences over the last few months too :(

You noticed I was gone?  I didn't think anyone did, or would.

I do know our beloved princess is dealing with issues of her own, I hear from her every now and then.

Of course we noticed. But you are entitled to take some time out if you want to, although I can't really imagine why you would want to.

Yup. Fluttershy Friend seems to never be here either, and Nature Tune decided they were no longer a fan of the show, and stopped coming.

All very sad.

I'm still here.

Meanwhile I haven't progressed beyond S9E3 but caught glimpses of Sandy and Baroo-Baroo together... (I can only understand small scenes at a time now, as long as they're quality or funny.) Is it OK to call Sandbar Sandy? And Gallus Gally-Birb? And Ocellus Celly-Bug? And Silverstream Silvy-Birb? And Yona Baroo-Baroo?

Also, I've spent the past few days trying to turn a four-parameter function spit out technically 30 parameters. I already have a one-param function spit out four parameters and the math for that is ridiculously simple.

Spoiler

I've broken down household type into four distinct types, but each type both affect average housing occupancy and the age breakdown of a population. Right now, I have four parameters (singles, cohabs, families, and seniors) that should go into a function and generate two outputs (occupancy and population weights; technically 30 outputs) AT THE SAME TIME.

I'm at the point where everything else in my residential simulator can effectively be treated as a black box.

This is lightyears ahead of the JavaScript simulator-builder I wrote a month or so back; that only had two managers for residential simulation and now I have 3 and several more black boxes in the mix.

Is it wrong that I've been at this all week?

Not if it's achieving the results you want.

I've been here since 2011 and figuring out how to get four-parameter function spit out 30 outputs is a lot of work. I may have an idea...

I've been testing all the arithmetic in Excel and I think I have several spreadsheets of raw calculations now...

No real crisis in my life to force me to do otherwise, I guess.

Or maybe someplace I can go when I don't want to face the rest of my life. who can say ? :)

Nearly 550 functional lines of code and another 500 lines that are just comments or whitespace...

All that for a drop of blood for a simulation of a city's residential area, just the residential area... Can I go to bed now?

No, you haven't simulated the utilties yet...

Ok so apparently there is a "Princess Twibug" releasing PMVs on youtube ? :)

"Princess Twibug" could mean anything to me at this point, even Twi as a bug.

Meanwhile, my Poisson model broke and now I need a slightly different one.

I just simplified a really janky block of code by abstracting away the calculations into a series of helper functions. There are a lot of functions needed for statistics, combinatorics, and linear algebra...

That can backfire sometimes - like overnormalizing a database - but so long as you feel you are improving your code, it's all progress :)

It feels a lot cleaner now, but if I start using matrix multiplication, I'm gonna need to find a linear algebra library. (There's Math.NET Numerics and others to choose from...)

The computations started to become a lot easier to comprehend once I translated them back into linear algebra, though.

There's also the documentation I left behind for myself, some of which have doodles of Gally-birb on them.

Makes sense. A lot of horrible looking code comes from trying to do in an array what a decent matrix math library would do as an object.

I keep calling arrays vectors, so there's that.

I also found another bug. (What if Ocellus and friends were being taught programming and they encounter a computer bug?)

Could always draw a computer bug; tron style :)
