general questions Anonymous online status option?

I remember this used to be something you could request, but is it still an option? I had it enabled in the past but it seems the board upgrades more or less disabled it for me. Is there a way I can get that back?

Aye; all you have to do is PM a staffer a we should be able to handle it quickly. :)

Is this a deliberate decision or a result of software updates?

The ability to switch yourself to anonymous browsing was eliminated when the login system was changed when you were on staff. Same with social media login, and similar functions. This is old news. The upgrade would not have altered that.

In 2015, since this came up enough, I instituted a policy, communicated here by Dawn Rider/King that members can reach out to Admins requesting they switch them manually in the ACP. That policy is still being followed.

So yes, changes to the software altered the function ... but not recent changes. And yes, it was a deliberate decision to still put forth the effort to ensure this feature is available to users who want it.

Just as a note, the Anonymous Browsing permission set still exists and can be added to a person's account by an Admin. *HOWEVER*, I'm not 100% convinced it's still working as intended since the IP.B 4.0 upgrade.

We may be forced to copy off the regular User set, with the flag set appropriately, and move you to that, taking you off any other permission set you have. In which case, you can't be a Subscriber/Donator/whatever when you're Anonymous.

Pffft, I know a better solution - logout and you'll be anonymous. :D

Seriously though, I kinda don't get why anybody would need that. :twi:

I gotta admit, that personally I don't like the idea of having ghosts all over the place. The more members will ask for anonymity, the weirder things will get. :twi:
I understand that feature in live-chatting, as things go fast there, but forums? :icwudt:

Eh- we're not here to discuss that I know, so don't mind that~
What I wanted to say is, that you can still view the user's status anyway (in either their hovercard or profile), which is probably not what they want.

I can confirm some aspects of it are not functioning properly such as not appearing in people's "recently viewed" list.
