Mail By Dragon, How does it work?

So, we all know that Spike can send and resieve letters. But I was more curious on how it works.   More so on two points.

1) How do you send a letter to Spike?  I mean, it sounds like Spike's one of the only Dragons living with ponies, so how does one send a letter to him?  A special spell?  the Flue Network?  how?

2) How does it defereinciate between sending a letter Vs just burning something?  I mean, in the episode where Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash (season 1 the Gilda episode) were doing pranks.  They scared Spike into having the hiccups.  When he collected those letters, his hiccups caused flames and they were sent to Celestia… yet most of the other times he has some kind of involuntary fire breath.. it burns the thing.  So is it more he can only send letters? or the hiccups in that time just so happened to trigger his mail breath instead of his fire breath.

#1. I always thought it was a spell Celestia had put on him so she could send letters to Twilight whenever she needed to. Something along the lines of his gullet is marked/bound to her magic so she can teleport scrolls to him without having to see him.

#2 This is why I feel like the magic for him sending scrolls is in the scroll and not him. The scrolls are enchanted to return to the caster whenever they are immolated by dragon fire. So his fire is nothing special (other than the receive spell he has on him) and explains why he can accidentally send them to her in the Gilda episode.

However, Celesia's not the only one who can send Spike letters, nor the only one she can send letters too.  Which not only have she done so but she said "I usually get letters by Dragon" SPike: "It is the fastest way after all" In the Season 6 finale when Starlight was given a letter from her old village.

Am I missing something? Who else can send scrolls through Spike's firebreath?

I know Princess Luna is one.  And if I recall she's gotten letter from others too.   But from the quote I mentioned, it's implied she gets all if not most of her mail via Spike.

Ohh right, I forgot about that moment in the Tantabus' episode.

While I understand your point about the quote you mentioned, I'm still unsure about its veracity in universe because even if most unicorns could send a letter through Spike's firebreath, how could pegasi and earth ponies do it? If Spike is the only dragon living among ponies, then it doesn't make sense.

Luna has received a letter from him, but she may have been in the same room as Celestia when it arrived. It's notable that Luna couldn't send a response back - she had to teleport to warn them about the Tantabus.

In the S6 finale, I think Spike was simply boasting that his letters sent to and from Twilight are the quickest means of communication, not that other ponies all around Equestria are using dragons to send mail.

Actually, from my understanding, she teleported there before she even got the letter.  As in it's the typical "Send message to someone but they show up immediately after the message was sent but for a completely different reason" All though in this case it just so happened to be the same reason.  If I remember right, she didn't even realize they sent her a message... even her reaction to them explaining what was in the letter was that of someone who heard it for the first time.

While I can see it, Spike's 'boast' wasn't the point of the quote.  It was Twilight.  Twilight said "I usually get mail by Dragon" which implies most if not all of her mail gets there via dragon.  And she has gotten other mail not from Princess Celestia.. after all why would she be more surprised/even need to say this if Celestia was the one who could send her mail.  Because it would of just been obvious that it wasn't from her, thus no reason to make the remark.

That's why I'm curious as to how it works.  Does it even require a spell or Unicorn?  Or for non-Celestia letters.. is there perhaps a special section in the post office to send mail via dragon?

Oh, also if I recall, Princess Cadence also sent her a letter if I remember right... in the episode about the Princess Family Cruise.

Yes, Twilight also was sent a letter for the Cystaling invitation... but I'm pretty sure that was a special circumstance... as it arrived like a snowflake.

I know about Spike's scroll sending abilities, but I wonder how does Celestia, Luna, and Twilight's Family can do it.

One of my theories, they probably have a piece of Spike's Magic Firebreath to send the messages and Spike sends them back with his fire breath. It's only a theory.

But how would you keep 'fire breath' in a jar?

I bet you the letters were written on an enchanted parchment.

While one of the things I had thought about, and I mean it'd explain why some things get burnt while others get sent (Ergo the Gilda episode I mentioned above) but if I recall, there have been non-letters sent through the mail as well :/

Like If I recall, in ep 3 of the series... The 5 grand-galloping Galla tickets were sent separately of the letter Celestia sent at the end of the episode.  Or maybe the 2 at the beginning?  I honestly forget which one it was but I do remember just the tickets were sent via firebreath in one of them.

All the tickets could be printed on enchanted parchment for ease of sending to all corners of Equestria.

They do glow something fancy.  But I mean, Is not Spike the only dragon in equistria?  And how do some many people know how to send Twilight letters?

My answer is... :maud:

Spoiler

"Magic happened, so screw you." - LittleshyFiM in Everything Wrong with Friendship Games.

Don't take this seriously, it's just a joke. :nom:

Not a jar, I mean a Candle or Fireplace.

I'm only guessing.

Didn't think of a candle... but *shrug* I dunno.

It could be that any flame would work, and spike is always convenient.

I think a candle would work... I'm just not as sure of it tbh.  As in the theory in itself.  *shrug*
