As far as I know I don't think so. Trust me, I've had the same problem and refreshing the page usually fixes that. If a staff member knows more than me then go ahead. Jeric 46,851 July 14, 2018 Share July 14, 2018 @Baymax it's a known issue with the text editor vendor that IPS uses for this forum software. One way to replicate it is to 'focus' your cursor so that it is inside the mention link. Tapping or clicking on the mention link will occasionally do this. You will not be able to continue typing, but can still navigate around the page. On a non-mobile device you can get around this by CTRL right-clicking and selecting "remove link". you should be able to space out of it. Oddly the mention link will not be broken.
cuteycindyhoney 13,307 July 14, 2018 Share July 14, 2018 I don't mean to sound dense, but HOW DO YOU DO THAT? Every time I try that @ thing, it just shows up as regular text. 1 hour ago, Jeric said: @Baymax it's a known issue with the text editor vendor that IPS uses for this forum software. Ignore the pop up, that has nothing to do with anything. It shows that @cuteycindyhoney is how you mention someone. That is it. All I could probably think of is that you MAY be using some outdated browser that doesn't support the scripts used to make that mention feature work.
cuteycindyhoney 13,307 July 15, 2018 Share July 15, 2018 @The TaZe Let's see if that works. The only time I ever got it to work is when I cut and pasted it from another's comment. Also, I see nowhere that you stated to ignore a pop-up. I just see the video, with your comment. "Pretty sure it works like this." Thank you Sparklefan1234!!! Rikifive 24,179 July 15, 2018 Share July 15, 2018 (edited) @cuteycindyhoney The video is okay, you just failed to understand it. If the pop-up was important, then I'm 120% sure, that @TheTaZe would notice, that it wasn't fully captured in the video and would record another one or specify what was written there below it. But he didn't do it, so that suggests, that the pop-up was irrelevant. (It appeared automatically on its own, due to hovering the cursor over there) You're unnecessarily making it more complicated. All you have to do is to just type "@" and then the username after it. Don't type it too fast though, because the editor may not catch it. Type @ and the first letter of the nickname like this @t . Typing name after space will work too. ( @ t ) A box with usernames should appear, then continue putting more letters to narrow the search. If you'll notice the member you want to mention, click it or select with keyboard. If it doesn't, try again by backspacing it and starting with @ again. ( If it will keep refusing to search, read this post to end, I'll mention something ) To properly mention a user, you have to select him from the list, just typing it won't work. If you'll do everything correctly, you'll see, that the mention works even while in editor, before posting. Please note, that making a single typo will fail to search the member you want, which will make the box disappear or not appear at all if what you typed doesn't match any results. For example, in the post above, you typed @TheTaZe with a space and that already is a mistake, that will fail the search. Mentioning isn't case-sensitive though, so feel free to ignore caps. When mentioning, make sure there are no characters before it; mention only in new lines / after space. That is to say, that word@thetaze will not work, so do hi@thetaze, for example. It will not even begin to search, even if you type the name perfectly. Separate words and mentions with space. Also there's an occasional bug, that completely prevents you from mentioning, but that's another and pretty long story. If you'll bump into something like this, refresh your page. Be sure to backup your contents first. I'd put tons of nice images for references~for better understanding, but I'm on mobile, so I can't imagine myself doing this there. Hope that helps. The only time I succeeded in mentioning before, was by cutting and pasting a mention to the person I wanted to notify, from some other post (Boop a snoot, and the like) Here's a thought. The other day I had a problem with Firefox. I accidentally downloaded what turned out to be a fake Firefox update. I uninstalled Firefox completely this afternoon (It kept redirecting me to some phony search engine) and reinstalled the latest vision. Now suddenly, mentioning works for me. Was my Firefox buggy the whole time? 2 Thank you Sparklefan1234!!!

Was my Firefox buggy the whole time? You most likely had some kind of browser redirect virus. It was probably a good idea just to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. I use Firefox all the time and never had problems with the mentioning thing.

That... wouldn't surprise me, to be honest. It's amazing how fragile these web-browser programs are.
