Would you propose the idea of Polygamy to ponies in Equestria?

Bit of a weird question, but how do you think the ponies would react if you proposed that you try out polygamy between a few or all of the mane 6, or even other ponies for that matter?

I mainly thought of this because people have multiple favorite ponies, so here a solution.

Would you even try and propose such a thing? and how do you think they would act? Also, who would you propose the idea to? (not Mane 6 exclusive)

And if you don't know what Polygamy is, the definition is The practice or custom of having more than one wife or husband at the same time.

No. Because both Polygamy and Monogamy are dumb. It's still a mutually exclusive relationship. The ponies getting married can't be with anyone else. 

Polyamory, the act of both parties in a relationship being allowed to have multiple partners of their own, and for those partners to see other partners as well. AKA, an open relationship. 

And I think they'd initially be alright with it. Every pony gets to be involved and no pony feels rejected or their love unrequited.

Regardless of whether or not the relationship was exclusive or open, it would still heavily depend on those IN the relationship to make it work. Exclusive relationships are not better or worse than open/polyamorous ones; whatever works for the individual, especially since it's still 100% possible to cheat and be hurt in a polyamorous relationship.

I'm currently in a polyamorous relationiship, having been monogamous for most of my life and I like different things about each.

I wouldn't personally ever be in a polygamous relationship lol not really a fan and I don't think the Mane 6 would be happy in that kind of relationship, either. In fact, I'm of the opinion that I don't think any of the Mane 6 should be anything but friends - partly because it doesn't feel natural (I see literally no romantic chemistry between any of them) and partly because I'm really, really bored of the trope, "We are good friends and because we show basic, platonic intimacy which is not typically normalized in the real world that means we obviously have romantic feelings for each other"  But, like relationships, to each their own!

However, for the fun of it, what if Starlight Glimmer's whole town was a polygamous family with Starlight as the main wife?

I wouldn't propose the idea of polygamy to ponies, because I don't support the idea of polygamy. The reasons, why I don't support this is my thoughts on having the special somebody/somepony and after analzying the idea of having many husbands/wifes it just breaks the "specialness" of one person/pony. Also, what would happen, if you would not spend equal time with each partner? It would make the people/ponies spent less time with them worrying, if you are caring for them. That's all for me now. Don't care about the opinion, if it's hurting you.

Pretty sure people prefer marriage to am open relationship, but ok.

Morally-speaking, just no. Their society is stable, and just wanting to have a threesome with a pair of Ponies is definitely not a valid reason to try injecting a new concept into an alien society that could end up having a very destructive impact. Ever seen Pleasantville? While it was meant to be a metaphor for the sexual revolution, from the perspective of an explorer visiting a foreign land, I thought the more literal point it was making was downright horrid. Take a hint from Star Trek and obey the Prime Directive.

This doesn't mean I oppose the idea of polygamy (or perhaps more accurately polyamory), but my gut tells me that even in our own society, it wouldn't be any better than the current "system" of relationships. Even in a world where you're in a relationship with multiple people, even if all parties are OK with it, there is still likely going to be "favoritism" towards one person or another. That invites jealousy, leading to territorial behavior, leading to the same conflicts we have in a monogamy-based society. But instead of it being a question of, "Who is and isn't getting any?" it becomes a question of, "Who is getting the MOST?"

I also suspect though that Equestria would see little need for such a thing. I don't think romantic relationships there are NEARLY as big of a deal because it's such a snuggle-fest world where hugs and cuddles are pretty much available for free and you can wear your heart on your sleeve. A lot of people treat romantic relationships as being like "friends but with sex and exclusivity" but there's a more fundamental element of closeness that exists, but humans generally save THAT for romantic relationships as well. Ponies don't. It's possible for them to have a degree of intimacy without it being sexual or romantic, and that is something that is mostly absent in human society. It may sound hypocritical to say that after saying that a world of "free sex" wouldn't work, but that's simply because of how hormones are designed to work.

I think it depends on the relationship though. In most "human" (you'll see why I used the quotes in a moment) relationships it doesn't work so well because of those issues you raised. However I have seen some fictional relationships where it does work. Each of the partners in the relationship bring a little something different and special to the relationship that just makes the whole thing work. I do want to specify that most harem storylines don't even meet this situation with partners feeling superfluous or favoured but there are a few where that isn't the case. As mentioned by another poster ponies are such a cuddle heavy race the jelousy would be less of an issue and if you get one of those relationships where it clicks then it makes sense.

Now to take the actual show most of the characters I can't see in a polygamous relationship (mane 6, Starlight, Trixie, Big Mac, etc) because they are so close to human in how they're presented that it doesn't feel like it'd work. I can for example see Rainbow Dash with Twilight but I can't see the two of them with another member of the mane 6 much less all 6 in a relationship together. However if they don't change too much growing up I can see the CMC's possibly sharing a special stallion IF he's the right personality type for it (which none of the males their age we've seen are). Although a large part of that is just how hurt they get even when trying different things and like I said that may change as they grow older.

I...don't think I would have a good idea for how that would work, especially as someone who is not a believer in polygamy. I don't vehemently oppose open relationships, but it would just not feel right for me to have multiple partners myself. Advocating for something like that to a crowd of magical ponies is very difficult for me to imagine, though I'm sure it would get a pretty funny reaction out of Cadance and Shining Armor.

If they agree to such a thing, that means they can also do it. Meaning I have to sometime sleep alone while Rarity sleeps next door. I found that kinda icky
