Why doesn't Pinkie Pie appear in a few episodes with Sugarcube Corner?

Sure, Mrs. Cake owns and runs the store, but usually, Pinkie Pie is the one who is seen in almost all episodes inside Sugarcube Corner.

I kind of was expecting Pinkie to appear in The Break Up Break Down, thinking that Nick Confalone is a big Pinkie Pie fan, but somehow, Confalone didn't give her a part in that episode on purpose for the first time ever (and hopefully, for the last time too).

Seems our friend nick is not so much of a fan as he leads to believe, eh? And I can sincerely understand him. She can be difficult at times. I mean, we know Pinkie has some issues with self-acceptance, and her obsessive dependence upon company to feel better about herself.

But, is that we never get to see her being sad, and flawed, and human anymore. Mind you, I haven't seen season eight, yet.

Superfluous additions of a primary character for the sake of just adding a character is not the sign of good writing, but more than that, it says nothing about a writers enjoyment of writing a particular character. When a writer bows too much to their self-indulgences they usually become blind to other interesting options. She probably wasn’t there because she wasn’t needed. Adding a Pinkie scene also means you need to subtract from other content which can throw off pacing and the dialog economy with a character-specific opportunity cost.

So yeah. Many rebuttals there. Take your pick.

@FirePuppy

You do realize that the Break-Up was not about Pinkie Pie. It was about a misunderstanding between Big Mac and Sugar Belle, with Discord learning a lesson too after some advice from Spike, and the CMC also under a misunderstanding. Just because Pinkie Pie works at Sugarcube Corner, that does NOT mean she has to appear in every episode that has Sugarcube Corner. Much like how in real life, not every employee works 24/7 at their restaurant.

Again, I think this topic seems a little bias.

We also have to remember that the episode has no mane 6 + Starlight anywhere to be seen, that could have been a self imposed rule for said episode, as if they wanted it to shine through the show's secondary characters only.

A good example is the scene in ‘A Perfect Pair’, when the Apples were talking with Mrs Cake about their parents. Pinkie Pie was nowhere to be seen. She was not needed to the overall plot of the episode and anything with her would have taken away from the tone of the scene. None of the other mane 6 are in the episode because they are not needed. It’s not their personal journey.
