War Of The Servers is a full-length MachinimaFilm made using Half-Life 2 and the Garry's Mod add-in to HL2. It is a parody retelling of H. G. Wells War of the Worlds done within the computer environment of these two programs.

 

 

The film opens with the narrator and protagonist describing the Garry's Mod environment in Half-Life, used to play with the physics engine or to build constructions inside it. The trouble begins when a strange fog envelops the world - one that the administrator of that particular server neither enabled nor is able to stop - and a new contraption appears, which eventually starts vaporizing every player in the game, except for a few fortunate to escape.

 

 

Administrators of various servers ("admins") begin a concerted effort to mount a war against the invading hordes of new users, called "mingebags." As the movie progresses, the admins are unable to stop the mingebags, and various efforts are made to try to attack their contraptions, by air and by any attempt the admin military forces can devise.

 

 

 

So I was thinking, as it is rather old, ( 2007 was 5 years ago! Who of you was already on the internet? ) Why not watch it again? And then I expanded that Idea and though that perhaps we could all gather in a Synchtube room to watch it. The move is freely accessible on youtube:

 

 

Although should you want to watch it with us I suggest to not see it in advance. ( Unless you don't mind watching the same movie twice in a week. )

 

My suggestion would be Saturday evening around 11 PM GMT + 1, which should be around 5 PM in Central America. The time can change of course.

The thought of watching a full length movie pieced together from a video game just seems rather pointless and dumb to me. I watched one episode of Red Vs Blue, and honestly could not understand why people thought it was funny. Maybe it's because I'm not a gamer, but it just looks stupid to me.
