I was in a kind of "military" base, only the "soldiers" had sonic screwdrivers for weapons, and wore red t-shirts with the Canadian flag on front. I miraculously managed to get out (there was commotion caused by visitors), but ran into more "soldiers" in the street, and one of them followed me. ... I feel honored by this mental stalking. <3 I take writing commissions. We had done everything together; playing ball, cycling (I was there when he first rode without the little wheels), getting in trouble, hitting on the hot fillies in high school... He was right next to me, praying for my mother, when she got her kidney surgery. Heck, we nearly got our cutie marks together, with just a few minutes between their respective appearances. Yeah, he was my PBFF. But then his obsession started. It was shortly after getting our cutie marks. Oh, it was nothing at first, just a fun hobby he found. Having magical abilities thanks to being an alicorn, I found it natural that he was attracted to delicate machinery with tiny parts. Like computers with multiple tiny buttons, instead of the conventional three-button keyboards. Or cameras the size of bugs. Stuff that can't be manipulated with hooves. He had put a microphone in his house's living room for example, wired to a pair of earphones on his bedroom wall behind the door. He'd often invite me, and from his bedroom, we'd listen in on the adults together. That's when I realized how ridiculous adults could be, right? smiling to everypony in public, talking behind each other's flanks the next minute. One day, I realized Peter was also more distracted whenever we did anything else, and constantly wanted to keep listening. Sometimes I would get bored of hearing them say the same stuff over and over, but he got grumpy about that. I didn't pay attention and turned the computer on to play a game. Happily for me, he had to leave his earphones to join me anyway, because his mom was coming to check in on us. Only, he invited me less and less. Much as I hated to ask for favors, I had to do that. And the rare times when he accepted, it was the same thing; if I wanted to do anything other than listen in, he'd act hurt and moody. I couldn't recognize him anymore. I was torn between my loyalty to him and my worries about his mental health, and about to tell his mother everything, when he unexpectedly called me at home and asked if I could come over. I was happy to see my PBFF back, after more than two years with a stranger. I walked in, eager to show him my latest poems I had written, including drafts for a theme song I was planning to send to the Wonderbolts' agent. You'll never guess what he first showed me when we entered his room. There were dozens of computer screens there, and a headphone was plugged into each. He tapped them gently, stroked their backs, pet the headsets calling them "sweetie" and all kinds of weird names we used to use in flirting. I asked him what all that stuff was, and he said something along the lines of "mane surveillance center" and "FelDOS network". He also mentioned somepony watching us named "Bag Bladder" or something, though I might've just misheard his native accent, after so long without hearing it regularly. I remember his next words clear as day because I made him repeat them. "And the best part? I found a way to physically unite with these cuties! To become one with them. One, Feth, ONE!" And then he started to dance around panting. "I WILL BE ONE! I WILL SEE AND HEAR ALL! I WILL KNOW EVERYTHING!" At first I didn't wanna think about what Peter meant by "physically uniting", but then the meaning of the other sentences struck me. I tried to persuade him that it was dangerous, but he shook his head in a small and quick motion. "It's gonna happen someday, why not now? Resistance is futile, you know." His eyes had a savage spark to them. He was insane. Claiming I had to fetch something, I flew back home, from where I wanted to call the nearest police station. But suddenly, Peter appeared in a bright flash right next to me, holding my poem scrolls in his mouth. He lifted them up with his magic and put it on the table next to the phone. He then shook his head disapprovingly while I backed away. "I thought you were my friend, Feth. I thought I could trust you. Until I saw you dial the police." He looked up at the ceiling, and following his gaze, I spotted a black, shiny dot in the middle of a crack in the paint. I heard a scream escape my throat as I felt myself lifted off the ground and pulled forwards. I was now nose-to-nose with the alicorn that used to be my PBFF, gazes locked, terror in my gut and betrayal in his eyes. "I was still kind enough to bring your poems back to you, Feth. I liked watching you write them, by the way, and I want you to continue writing. It would be such a shame to destroy the great well of creativity you have there." His horn flashed some magic I couldn't identify and I blacked out. When I came to at the hospital, I was told they had received a phone call from my home but couldn't identify who was speaking. I said it must've been Peter, but the head nurse looked surprised. When I recounted everything I could remember, they told me he hadn't been seen in months, and that his room had been empty for the last few weeks since his mother had sold everything. My parents and older sister, who visited me every day, told me everything would be alright, but I couldn't shake of the feeling that something weird was going on. I know, for one, that a team of investigators had been contacted to look into the matter. They asked questions and I answered, and like everypony else, they told me everything was fine. One time though, when I got out of bed to go to the little colt's room, I overheard the agents talk about "alternate dimensions" and remembered Peter was also an ace at magic. When I came back from the hospital, four days after Hearts&Hooves, a grey-coated pegasus filly was waiting at my door. When she turned to me, I noticed she was cross-eyed and had bubbles for a cutie mark. She said she was an apprentice mailmare and gave me a letter, marked to my address and bearing that day's exact date. The sender's address was nowhere to be seen, and mine was clearly typed on computer and printed out. I slowly sat down on a cushion, put the envelope down, opened it with a trembling hoof, then pulled out the sheet and unfolded it. The letter was also computer-typed and printed. It said: "Glad to see you back home, Feth. You looked very lonely in those white sheets and blue blanket. But don't be afraid, you will never be alone again, I promise. I promise you, Feth, because I am a good friend." That's when I remembered there was a picture on my hospital room's wall, representing a blue alicorn, hanging from a nail with shiny black head...
