Leaks show he wanted to at least keep the original ending mostly in tact Spoiler Huh. Didn’t know that. Spoiler The outline(I posted the premise earlier, but the outline changes a lot of things) he had in mind was mostly different from Polsky's premise, but he still had both the impressions scene and Polsky's original ending mostly in tact. On the flipside his first outline actually ended with her becoming a Wonderbolt rather than the beginning. The rest of the episode would be about RD getting upset about being called up for a big show in Ponyville only to be saddled with a mundane job(crowd control), and the episode would have dealt with her trying to get out of it and get a position in the main show, but then kinda just deals with it. The 3rd act would have been the same, but would have ended with her becoming one after saving Scootaloo. The initial outline was declined by Hasbro because Hasbro thought she should already be one and it probably felt too similar to Sonic Rainboom, but they wanted her to have her big moment and end things with the Sonic Rainboom, so by that point they should have just went back for the original premise. I still have no clue who thought it was okay to decided to have the episode the way it is because the emails showed that Hasbro had a lot of the same complaints people had with the final version when it came out(the hazing, the Wonberbolts being nasty). I highly doubt Hasbro(or Dave Rapp for that matter) were very happy with how it turned out, or it was what Rapp had in mind given he wanted to keep most of the original version in tact I'm still upset about it

That does put Newbie Dash in a new light. The episode we eventually got ended up so far from the original premise that it really makes you wonder how the decision-making process went, especially if Hasbro was worried about the hazing.
