Skittybug 16 April 29, 2020 Share April 29, 2020 My Favourite Mane 6 Pony fluttershy How did you find MLP Forums? Via the Discord server. Yep, I was active there for around 3 (wait - really? Nearly 3 whole years?) before this account. How you became a fan of My Little Pony During the early days of January 2017, my family was given permission to password share a Netflix account by a family friend. Over the course of the next 2-ish months, I binged quite a few shows that there was really no other way to access here in New Zealand (animated TV was and still is rather limited in scope here,) and so eventually I ran out of things to watch in mid-March. That's when a very peculiar thought entered my brain: I saw MLP being recommended to me for some reason, so why not watch the first episode to point and laugh. When the episode was up, I unfortunately forgot to point and laugh, and erroniously clicked "next episode," using the fact that it was a two-parter to justify my decision to myself. When that was over, I accidentally clicked "next episode" again, and before I knew it I was halfway through Season 1. By then, I admitted that I kinda enjoyed the show. Towards the end of Season 1, my interest began to wane and I decided that if the next season opener didn't catch my attention, I'd quit but in reasonably good spirits about it. The fact that I'm here, writing this after being a 3-year standing member of the fandom may give you a clue as to what I thought about that episode. Discord. Mother. Bucking. Discord. Pinkie was already a character I enjoyed. I found her to be slightly grating at times, but overall she held up for me. Discord, in my view, removed everything I found grating about her with a scalpel, wrapped up in such an amazing voice that I felt glued to the screen. Every second of that episode from Rainbow mentioning cola storms in Cloudsdale to Celestia opening the empty Elements chest was good. Everything between that, and the Mane 6 arriving at the hedge maze was great - especially how vindictive and angry Discord sounded at being made a garden gnome while still exhuding a playful (but cautious) energy in his speech. From the moment he appeared in front of them, and completely subverted the expectation that he was an evil maniacally laughing tyrant by making him a jokey, humourously laughing (but somewhat intimidating and still smart) goofball, I loved him. I still maintain that it's the best season opener there is, and he's also a key factor in why my favourite episodes are my favourites. I felt kinda sad when he was restoned, too. The look of pure terror on his face...it got to me. No matter how good I thought the episode was, and how much I thought that was the peak of the show, I pressed on. Season 2 remains my favourite season, even if we discount Return of Harmony. It was just really solid. My interest once again began to wane partway through S2, but because S3 was only half length I decided to stick it out and see if the finale could offer me a nice conclusion. I was actively planning departure from the fandom. Keep in mind I hadn't actually done anything pony outside of watch the show and join the Discord Server (17th of June, 2017.) By some cosmic miracle, I missed the end of Spike at Your Service (not too much) and decided to just restart Keep Calm and Flutter On. I was only about 30 seconds in, so I wasn't even at the point where any plot details were foreshadowed. Because of this tiny thing I was called away not even a minute for, I went into the episode 100% spoiler free. The emotion I felt when Spike started rattling off Discord's anatomy, my heart lept into my mouth. They wouldn't...could they? It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen in my life. Armed with the knowledge of Discord returning and likely being a recurring cast member, my resolve to watch the show increased dramatically and remained at that high for the next week, while I binged the rest of the show. During that binge, I crowned Twilight's Kingdom as my favourite episode (a title it held/still holds right to the end...maybe), I liked, then disliked, then kinda liked, then kinda didn't like Starlight Glimmer, and I was finally absolved of Netflix episodes to watch. I then binged all available episodes of S7 on Dailymotion, finally catching up to the show right before Fame and Misfortune aired. When the show ended in October of last year, The Ending of the End became tied for favourite episode. I simply cannot choose between them. Hello there from New Zealand! I'm pleased to finally be a presence on this forum that I've heard so much talk about.

Skittybug 16 April 29, 2020 Author Share April 29, 2020 Thanks! I know it's not particularly unique in that I didn't join the fandom on the sole merits of the show - and that it was kinda by accident I came to love it, but It's done a great deal for me in my personal life and has really helped me become a better person.

For me, I am coming from Star Trek the Next Generation, and "Q" (John de Lancie) being in the first and last episodes made me really like the character, understanding him better, and I was waiting for Discord to show up in S02E01 with great anticipation. Discord was one of the things I needed in order to allow myself to watch the show. Anyways, welcome @Skittybug to the forums! Enjoy your stay!
