So, I was talking about griffons on DA, in the comments here (Specifically in my replies to McLarenMP4-27), and a thought occured to me;

 

In MMMystery Express, how did a griffon have a mustache?

Griffons, not only do they have beaks, but they don't even have any hair. I'm pretty sure that's absurdly impossible.

 

When the thought suddenly hit me: Twi put a mustache on Spike.

 

So maybe the griffon chef got one the same way...

 

So, could there be mustache parlors in Equestria?

 

Unicorns learn the spell to give critters a mustache, and charge a high rate to give them mustaches.

 

Ah, free enterprise at it's finest.

 

+Critters want mustaches, that can't grow them for on reason or other, or just want them quickly.

+Got spell that can make mustaches on critters.

It's impossible to tell with this animation team. They obviously put a lot of thought into their stuff, just one example is the reference to the War of the Roses with Luna's Wreath (read it on TVTropes).

 

This is an example of; "Author always gets the benefit of the doubt", so we end up expanding the MLP universe for them in many cases

Though that also means that his mustache is based above his nose.

 

If you can even say he has a nose, since a beak is kinda a nose and mouth integrated into one oral cavity...

 

Yes, the never-ending conflict inbetween nasal oral cavity space and mouth oral cavity space, has finally come to a glorious end, where together, we no longer have to refer to one as a "sinus", and the other as an oral cavity, but together, they are united as one, glorious beaky oral cavity...

I need to go to sleep now, lol.

 

(Nevermind the fact he has teeth, too. I just noticed that... Though IIRC, I think there is such thing as beaked animals with teeth... Just not eagles. Or Gilda. I don't think Gilda had teeth except when she grinned, and then they're only drawn to show the grin, so you could say that's artistic depiction and not actual canon that she has teeth...)

 

EDIT: on second thought, I guess you could say the same here, the teeth are drawn purely to help express an emotion (clenched teeth, open mouth, "le gasp!" expression), and thus are artist depiction, and not actual canon.

Yeah, it's really vague. I just have a bigger monitor, I guess. Or eagleyes

 

Anyways, yeah, that's why I mentioned "for a high price" in my OP. Mustaches last a long time, so what few customers come, don't come back very often, so to stay in business they'd have to charge a high price.

I mean, where's the fun in that quitter attitude?

 

Some of the best ideas come from trying to explain "why" stuff is a certain way. Working around constraints and explaining things are usually the sources for the best ideas

 

Will these services be expensive?

 

I'd have to run by some math. Uhm, at first, probably a lot. Something along the lines of $400 USD, whatever that is in Equestrian "bits", then we'll lower the prices until we reach a point of maximum profit, and leave it near that level

 

Of course, soon competition will rise up, and then we'll be forced to do it at lower rates.

 

But it all gets complicated when you realize this added service means we can lower the price of our other, main services, like manecuts and shaves and styling for customers who already have a mustache and/or other facial hair.

 

Hmm... Barbers must do well in Equestria where ponies have tails.

 

EDIT; on second thought, I might drastically lower those prices, because that gives increased business since those customers will have to then come to us for work on their facial hair.

 

HEY - and we can even offer upkeep on facial hair WE'VE created at a discount rate, to encourage customers to come here instead of to competition

 

Wow, this is really making me think of starting a business IRL

 

Not creating facial hair with unicorn magic, though... You know how much it costs to get unicorn services IRL? Way too much to run a business with it.

Mustaches and other facia hair is already canon. And griffons aren't the only one, there was a tennis playing pony seen in Call of the Cutie that has a beard.

 

Thus, haircutteries and barber shops much be canon as well. Also note how manes are treated more like hair as we treat ours.
