The farm's kitchen was empty, pots and pans were scattered on the floor and a platter that still had food, a bit past ripe too, on it was shattered on the floor. Wind blew through the open windows overlooking the farm land. Weeds had grown up and the crops looked ready to harvest. MaryAnne opened a cupboard to find a single jar of fruit preserves and some crackers that were miraculously not stale. She took some for herself and left the rest for Ruby. She scarfed down the food and left the kitchen.

She went out to the hen house and found the chickens had laid many eggs, and their food troughs were empty. She fed the thinning animals their feed, and left for the large barn. Inside was Storms cow, and it was in dire need of being milked. With her telekinesis she milked the loud cow into a large silver bucket. She kept working in the silence, the golden glow of sunrise peeked through cracks in the wooden structure.

"No, I'm fine, I just didn't like seeing him like that, and I don't want to end up in his place." Chancy replied, smiling back at Storm. "But you know what? We don't have to sprint all the way there." She looked forward into the horizon. "Do you see that big tree, with the splitting branches? We can race there, if you'd like."

MaryAnne finished milking the swollen cow and brought the milk back into the house. She left and roamed the farm, checking on the windmill to see if damage had been done and if the workers storm hired to help her often ttimes had still kept coming while storm was away, she could not tell, while the farm seemed allright no sign of workers or anything appeared. She grabbed a rake and began to sweep away any wet hay and shovel fresh hay into all the animal pens and the floor of the barn.

As Decan watched the barn he saw lavender mare walk out of the barn with a pile of wet dirty hay. Is that MaryAnne ? He thought, Looking closer.

He smiled then waved. MaryAnne. He called, moving the logs to the side of the road then trotting over to the barn.

MaryAnne jolted upright in surprise and looked to see that Decan had arrived.

"Hi there Decan! What are you doing this far out of town?" She put down the pitch fork and wipe dirt and sweat off her forehead. She smiled. "If you're going back into town I may accompany you, the farm seems to be in good enough shape for Ruby and I to leave. Besides I need to get back to the tavern."

I was just chopping some wood so I could fix those tables. is there anything else you need a hoof with ? He said, looking into the barn where a happy looking cow sat munching on some fresh hey. So is this your farm ? Or are you just helping out a friend ? He asked looking back at MaryAnne.

"Oh this is Storms farm, you know she disappeared after all that drama at the tavern, and I just wanted to be a good friend and so Ruby and I came up here to help tidy it up and check on things. I think I will just tell Ruby that I'm about done here and she can either stay or come along later, I will also leae Storm a note to let her know what is going on. Would you mind moving this hay into that ditch way over there and I'll go talk to Ruby and be back in a bit." She nodded happily, thankful to have Decan there to help her out, she was just beginning to understand how lonesome life at the farm was for Storm, she really began to admire her friend Storm fo all the dedication and hard work it takes to take care of the farm. She gave Decan the rake and trotted inside.

Decan took the rake and started moving piles of the moldy wet hay into the ditch. I wonder where Storm went ? He thought, wiping the sweat from his brow. Wait a sec... I hardly know her, I shouldn't meddle in other ponies business. He grimaced at a large chunk of mold.

MaryAnne cantered into the farm house and pushed her way into Ruby's room. The pony was still sleeping so she left a not for her

-Ruby

I am going back into town to check up on the tavern, I have cleaned up around here and there is food for you. Come back at your leisure.

-Aunt MaryAnne

She tucked the quilt in around Ruby and left the farm house. She returned to Decan."Well she is still sleeping I left her a note. Let me help you with the hay...oh sweet Celestia is that mold?!" She picked up another rake but was hesitant to rake up any mold.

Yea, its rather gross isn't it... I wonder why Storm isn't here anymore. He said, raking the last little bit of rotten hay into the ditch.

Do you want me to wait here until Ruby wakes up ? He asked, trotting over to the barn and placing the rake just inside the door

"No, I have no clue where she is..." MaryAnne shook her head and mane." No, she wil be fine here. She is a responsible young lady. I trust her. Besides you need to get back to your shop too." She continued raking the pile, soon there was little to nothing left. "Unless you want to stay here. It's up to you."

If you think she will be ok than I have to get back to my shop and get to work on those tables. He smiled at Maryanne.

Speaking of the tables, They should be done by tomorrow afternoon. I will bring them over when I finish. He said, as he trotted over to the logs he had left by the road.

MaryAnne nodded. 'Sounds great Decan. Would you like some help with those logs?" She followed him towards the logs. She used her telekinesis to levitate one of the logs a few inches off the ground and set it back down. "Do you have a cart with you for carrying them? It is a long way down the road."

Thank you very much Maryanne, But I can manage. I have lifted much heavier things for much longer distances in my life.

He smiled then picked the logs up and placed them on his back using his wings to keep them steady. I hope this will be enough wood to fix the furniture. He said, glancing at the pile.

"Well allright then Decan. If you say you are fine..." She replied then stepped back to give him some room to move. "Shall we head into town then Decan?" She asked the stallion, walking towards the gate exiting the farm. "It should take us two hours or so by my estimates."

Sounds good to me. Flame said trotting past the gate and down the dirt road. So MaryAnne, How long have you been living in the town Canterlot ? He asked, glancing up at the sunny sky. What a lovely day, I wish I had time to go for a flight. He thought to himself.

"I have lived in this town for the majority of my life Decan, my parents owned my tavern and my sister married a pegasus so she went to live closer to cloudsdale, when my parents passed away they left the Tavern to me." She smiled thinking fondly back on the memorys of her family. "Tell me about your self. Where do you come from?" She asked as they made their way into the forest on the dirt path headed south into town.

Decan's smile faded slightly. My life is full of sadness... if you want I can tell you about it, but I just want to warn you... Its a rather gruesome and long story. He said quietly, Adjusting the wood on his back.

(OOC: There is a small chance I wont be able to post after this, but I will most likely be able to keep going. Just thought I would give you a heads up)

"We have a long ways to walk Decan, would you mind telling it to me?" She asked with empathy. She looked at the crest fallen stallion and smiled at him reassuringly. SHe kept walking down the path steping over branches and rocks in her way.

"

Alrighty then.

My parents were killed when I was just a foal, I dont know where we were going or who did it. anyway, I was found by my teacher,

His name was Iron Star, he raised me and taught me everything I know about blacksmithing.

When I was 14 he was killed trying to save the small village that we lived in from a full grown dragon.

so I left my home and traveled all over Equestria. Then... I... I met my wife, when I was staying in Cloudsdale, when I was 19 we got married and had two kids. we live happily in Cloudsdale until one night... A big group of thieves raided clouds dale and killed quite a few ponies. They broke into our house, I tried to fight them off but they over powered me... and they... They Killed my wife and kids... right in front of my eyes. After seeing that I... couldn't control my anger, it all just burst out. I killed every last bandit in my house then I went out into the street for more, But the rest of the bandits had already left. Ever since then I have just been wondering around Equestria, looking for a place to settle down."

Flame stared at the ground and wiped a tear from his eye.

MaryAnne shook her head, tears rolling down her cheek after hearing Decans story. 'That's...that's just...I'm sorry for your loss Decan..." She shook her head as they walked in silence.

*an hour later*

MaryAnne turned to the stallion "Well we are back in town. Come to my tavern for a drink okay? On the house."

Decan gave a weak smile. "That sounds fantastic, thank you... For everything you have done for me , MaryAnne.

I will be over in a couple minutes, I just have to put this wood inside." Decan trotted into his house, placed the logs on the floor, then trotted to the little tavern next door.

MaryAnne nodded at Decan, "Your welcome Decan." She smiled then went into her tavern. She flipped the sign to open and began wiping down the countertop. She pulled out two glass mugs and tapped into a barrel of ale for the two of them. When he entered she smiled "Take a seat." She filled up one glass to the brim with the amber drink and handed it to him.

"Oh!" Storm didn't feel any cheerful anymore and became silent. When Chancy said they could race over to a tree she spotted the tree in the distance "I'll be there before you made half of the way!" she said stretching her wings out and keeping them horizontal started to race to the tree.

Keeping her wings open was a trick she had learned from her older sister. By doing so the wings caught air in them, causing the pony to run with less weight.

Decan smiled at MaryAnne. " Thanks again, MaryAnne, I am lucky I have made such good friends." he said. Taking the drink.

Decan sat trying to think of something to say. " Um... Nice weather we're having ? he chuckled. " I can't think of anything to say, heheh. he said taking a sip of his drink.
