As they traveled back to ponyville, Cozy glow was being forced to move forward infront of them, while Alpha is at her back watching her. The problem is the speed that they are traveling is quite slower than before  where there was just the two of them.

Noted, that only Blu was not injured from thi mission and the rest were a bit worn out, especially Alpha.

Cozy would look back and was a bit worried about Alpha. Shade would just usually hang around behind you. Would occasionally give you the strange look if you look at her, Waiting to answer you.

Gruit ale ponders for a bit.

" can we please avoid burning the woods? It is more effective on hiding us rather than burn off a few infected. The forest has helped hide this village. Maybe thats the reason it was wholly ignored."

" they may be plenty now... but they're still lost in the woods. I think they dont know where we're exactly at. Hence we do a sneak attack instead dwindle their numbers, while avoiding casualty to us and the forest."

Diamond Tiara would also think for a bit.

" is there anything else than fire you could do?"

" any way, the armory is near south entrance of the town. Near the watch tower. Grab some equipments if you want."

Gruit would look at your group once more and checked what you wear.

"... although i dont think our armory and weapons are better than what you already have."

The haughty Kuya would add.

" HA ..... my fist is enough..... although a dagger would do.... using my fist to fight a hundred infected would just be too harsh for my hoof."

" well i made enough shots... o am good on mah end." The stallion with a weird rod replied.

The other ponys would head off and head towards the armory, preparing to defend their humble village.

Blu nodded, while he was the least damaged of them all he had still traveled all the way there just earlier that day and despite his mental age still had a young body that tired easily.

Blu would set himself up to rest preferably somewhere where he could have his back against a wall. "I'll take first watch, since I seem the most alert of all of us at the moment."

Cozy would try and inch herself close to Shallow and try to rest.

" please dont bite me..." she gulped.

Shallow in return would just chomp on the air and make a clanging sound with her razor teeth, making Cozy Glow faint right here and there.

" i guess we wont have a problem with her."

Shed then tie up one of Cozy's hoof to her own before she too would begin to sleep.

" good night." Alpha told everyone.

Meanwhile Shallow would just stare at Alpha with doubt, and would just say goodnight towards Blu only with a smile.

Two choices could be made. The watchtower and the wide open field the separates the forest from the village.

Both give good coverage of her music and also gives cons.

The tower can give her leverage to see which possible areas they could attack. But her music might be affected a little. And if luck does not favor them, the wind can weaken the coverage of her flute.

Meanwhile on the field, she could easily spread her music to everyone, but wit the disadvantage of the location of incoming enemy.

Blu just rolled his eyes, not having the energy to try and explain the affirming the consequent fallacy to her.

 

Blu wouldn't respond to the other comments, as his attention was already focused outward as he watched for any sign that they were being followed, or were in danger.

He would keep up that watch for four hours, or until Alpha got up for her watch, or until something happened.

Fuoco would take to the field, as it would also give her the opportunity to use her fire magic if the enemy got too close without risking the forest.

This would bolster the ponies around him and invigorate them to fight on.

Griff, Basher, and Apple bloom would be on the front line, fighting off the purple creatures. while Misty, white and Tiara would be observing at the back of the front line, most likely at the back of Fuoco.

Once Alpha was up to take watch Blu would settle in to sleep. He didn't fully trust Alpha, so his sleep wasn't too deep, he'd be easily woken if anything happened.

Otherwise, he'd wake up when it was time to move again.

Still, 1-3 at a time was nothing, they had fought more in larger numbers on the way here and back in Ponyville, and Fuoco had fought more by herself back home, though she had fallen in that encounter.

She wasn't worried, not yet, and she had more in her arsenal than bolstering her comrades if things got worse.

As he falls to sleep he'd occasionally hear Alpha and Cozy speak to one another.

Then a vision would intrude you.

A dream.

There you saw the two creatures you tried to shoot.

The one that you beheaded.

And the one who sinks into the soil.

But this one is badly injured.

She is losing half of her lower body.

She begins to point at you.

" Know this.... Death is upon you... You have no where to hide..."

She then begins to merge with the headless corpse.

The dream ends as Shallow Shade wakes you up.

" Bro wake up. We gotta move."

The rest is already packed up and is waiting for you.

" It seems you didn't rest well too... I hope this wont be a recurring nightmare..."

Alpha sighed.

She then looks at Cozy. She taps her.

" You have anything to do with this traitor?"

" Ouch...what?" Cozy replied.

Alpha could only grunt.

" Tsk... Let's go."

Cozy could only follow.

" Eiishh such a meanie." Shallow replied.

She then whispered to Blu.

" Whats going oooonnn?"

 

 

- Fuoco-

The rest would cheer on and got invigorated to fight the good fight. Same as Kuya.

" Yess! We be blessed by her magic!"

The stallion charges at the enemy with ease. Felling them quick and swift.

The purple creatures would revert back to their original forms and would either remain fainted or flee.

 

" Above!!"

Tiara shouted.

There once more a spec in the air could be seen. 

As it was noticed it began to quickly dive towards Fuoco.

The First to rake action was Kuya.

He was already at Fuoco's side ready to block anything.

Blu shrugged, a bit happier from his rest despite their enemy's attempt to disturb him, "If I were to guess, at least one enemy has the ability to influence dreams, and they tried to put us off step. Unfortunately, they don't know how I work."

As he followed the others in the travel he kept his weapons ready, looking forward to the next engagement. They knew a little of what he could do. That he could strike them without warning if they weren't careful. They wouldn't have a moments respite from him, as they knew that any time they let their guard down might be when he strikes again, but he could rest easy as he did not fear death, and he knew they were coming.

They were coming for him, because they feared him.

 

(Fuoco)

No sooner had Tiara called out the enemies than Fuoco had started launching firebolts up towards them, at first it would be like she had done before: fast moving bolts that exploded at a certain distance, but if the spec proved more able to dodge this time, she would switch up her attacks.

She wasn't worried about the fighters on the ground, she could keep up the bolstering magic while also fielding small attacks of her own, and those on the ground seemed to be doing fine anyway if she needed to draw more focus to the air.

This was her element, the fire within her swelled in her comrade's successes. There flying enemies would fall just as the others had.

As they continued their travels, they eventually reached their destination. 

But no one was there to greet them.

Once where a village and a castle stand. now, a huge crater greets them.

Cozy shivers in fear, while Alpha stares blankly at the open emptiness.

"..... Whats going on?" Shallow spoke, breaking the silence.

Blu would notice that the damage here was quite similar to your previous encounter.

Alpha would walk and check the surrounding area and left Cozy Glow to herself. It seems her priority for her was gone.

 

 

- Fuoco-

Her magic would hit the one above multiple times making its intended course of trajectory towards you vier quite away from your group and crash a bit near you.

The impact made quite an explosive entrance as it blasted quite a lot of dust and anything near it. Including some of the ponies.

Kuya was able to block debris that was heading towards the group and catch some of the flung ponies.

The impact took the show and seized the battle.

All attention was on the thing that crashed.

As the dust settles, a black dragon with purple tentacles would appear infront of them.

But it seems this creature is more zombie than a rabid beast.

It moves slowly towards fuoco's group, awkwardly flailing it's body.

Some of the guards would try to attack it but their weapon would bounce or brake as it contacts the skin of the onyx dragon. 

Its tentacles and wings would flail and once more fling the ponies that attacked it.

Kuya and the rest of the guards would now be more cautious.

" Tentacles.... Blast! I cannot grapple that..."

And what makes it worst is the creatures in the forest continues to slowly pour out. Some of the guards are still engaging the ones coming out of the forest. But sooner or later they're gonna tire out and over run.

Blu sat down heavily, inwardly glad that he had brought with him what few things he owned, since it looked like anything left behind was now just dust.

And with it, any hope of getting back home.

They'd only been gone about 24 hours, but this didn't look especially recent. Not a lot of time for an evacuation, and there wasn't exactly much left to scavenge.

 

He closed his eyes for a bit, before looking to Alpha, "Well, you know this place better than me, where else can we go? Or is this where we part ways and become wandering nomads?"

 

(Fuoco)

Fuoco would stop playing momentarily to call out, "Fall back! Everyone behind me, those with range keep them busy so the others can retreat."

Then she resumed, starting a wall of fire in front of her and slowly widening it as the other guards fell back. The wall would serve to keep back the other infected, if they were smart enough not to light themselves on fire, but was far enough away from the forest to keep from igniting the trees.

She figured it wouldn't do much against the dragon though, so she also retreated a bit, waiting for it to cross the wall of fire, then she played a series of shrill, painful notes, intending to light a fire inside the dragon. Right at its heart if she could, but she wasn't familiar with dragons and might miss. Still, she hoped its internals were a bit more flammable than its hide.

If it didn't look like it was working, she'd hope that the other guards would focus on it and reveal some weak point she could exploit.

(48 hours have passed since you went back.)

Shallow was stunned seeing Blu devastated.

" What about the others..." She mumbled.

 

Alpha was to busy noticing Blu. She continues to examine the area.

" There is no burn marks.... The place looked like it was dug out of the ground. Probably the same as the wide teleportation magic..." She looked at Cozy menacingly.

"Where are they!" She zooms to her, hoof on her neck, lifting her of the ground.

Cozy could only hold on to her scared and stunned,.

" I-i don't know!" Her only reply

Shallow couldn't react at the speed of Alpha.

" H-hey!!" The only thing she could say.

Alpha begins to light up. Sparks begin to appear around her.

" You should start talking."

Her reply was overwhelming fear of her.

She could not speak.

-fuoco-

Her plans were a success. And her suspicions are correct.

The dragon is the only one who can go through. As she lit a flame on the dragon's heart, it still continued to wobble to her direction.

The guards would continue to attack it and halt it's movements.

It seems the only damage that could be done to it is the flailing tentacles. It bleeds but regenerates anyway.

And it seems to be already in pain, so one would not know if the damage they have dealt was the cause of it... Or it being alive is what's causing it pain. as it nears Fuoco, you hear it mumbling something.

"..... Fear.... Sing..... Fear!!!"

Put her down, and put your speed to use surveying the crater, see if you can find anything. I will get some answers out of her while you're gone."

If Alpha agreed, Blu would wait until she left (probably cursing him under her breath) to approach Cozy, "Don't think this makes us friends. I think she's right to suspect you, given what I've seen. So while she's gone, why don't you tell me everything, from the beginning, and convince me why you should still be breathing when she gets back. I could have shot you when I hit that pony you were talking to. Don't make me regret it."

 

(Fuoco)

Fuoco's gaze narrowed, very few creatures knew about her singing fear, she knew this one was related to the alicorn who had tried to claim her.

She wasn't going to give in. She shunted the emotions from her mind, clarifying the notes as the fire grew hotter, shifting from orange to yellow and eventually to white, with bits of blue flickering in and out.

She stood firm, holding out hope that a weakness would be revealed, or that the hotter flames would be enough to put the beast down.

Alpha's face is painted with no emotions what so ever as he looked over at Blu. It would take quite a long stare between the two of them. It seems she is thinking something thats quite unhealthy.

She'd eventually drop Cozy Glow without a care and leave you be with her without a word.

Shed slowly fly up to the clouds instead of what Blu had suggested.

As Blu approached Cozy to say his piece, Shallow would follow him with a bit of worry. She seems to keep on watching over the skies for Alpha.

" i Don't like it when she's above the skies...." Shallow whispered to Blu.

Meanwhile Cozy tries to collect herself but could only utter out words.

"No.... It happened...i didn't do it right..im stupid..." She muttered as her tears flowed down.

 

-Fuoco-

The Dragon yells and screams as the Fire intensified. But it seems to enjoy it rather than in agony.

" BURN ME MORE!!!! MOTHER!!!! LUL ME TO NIGHTMARE!!!"

it cried out.

Ponies around feared it for its weird behavior.... But.

Not only is the dragon attracting attention... But to fuoco as well. Some ponies near you gives a bad poker face towards her as she intensified her fire.

Shocked at how powerful the earth pony with her magic.

Awe and fear, was given to Fuoco.

It could not be helped by them seeing someone like this.

The Dragon would neal towards Fuoco and would stare at the sky as it cackle and laugh as it burn.... Soon it would stop moving.

The stallion with a rod would break the silence once more.

" well shoot my leg and call me a donkey's uncle...remind me not to mess with-er..."

Fuoco stopped the magic once the beast stopped moving. She hadn't paid much attention to what it was saying, only considering the words evidence that it had not yet died.

Once the song was over though, she collapsed, having far exceeded her normal magical capacity. "That... was too much." Her voice was weak, evidence of the overexertion on her throat node, and her overall lack of energy.

She wasn't scared though, she had done all she could. And if the rest of the guards couldn't collect her, well, she wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight for a while.

She closed her eyes and waited for either death or an ally to claim her.

Cozy upon hearing your words began to shiver a bit while looking around if the coast was clear.

" Beta..." after releasing those words she began to fear the sky as she looks above her.

" I... I was recruited by her...she..." Cozy would look around once more before continuing.

"She made me do things. At first i thought it was for the princess's better good... But... But it seems i was fooled into believing that." She began to cry in shame.

" i did things for her. She made me think it was to make the princess grow into a better pony. A better ruler.now, She's gone.... Because of me..."

Then a shade began to cover both Blu and Cozy. Cozy began to choke in fear once more.

It was Alpha blocking the sun, looking down on both of them.

Her expression, could not be seen. Her tone nothing.

" this Pony is a great lier. But it seems she has given us a lead."

Shallow begins to cower as well and begins to shrink on Blu's back. She began to show her fangs towards Alpha as if she was a scared dog backed into a corner.

" hhhhssss..."

-Fuoco-

Misty and Tiara would be the one to quickly assist Fuoco and be eventually be carried by. A glimpse can be seen by the two panicking and trying to talk to Fuoco before fading into black.

Fuoco instantly wakes up in a white room on a bed. Where Misty, White, Basher and Griff is present.

" well that was fast... you didn't even gave us time to worry or grief." Griff replied as you woke up.

Basher would grunt and give a displeased look towards Griff but wont say anything more. White would poke him with his hooves to stop him from talking any further, While Misty would put it on one side of her ears and out the other.

" oh good, she's awake!" She gave a sigh of relief.

" incredible work as always Lady Fuoco, once again you have saved us." White light replied and gave a curtsey to her.

" is there anything you need?" Basher asked.

You're also welcome to try again at killing me if you find those options disagreeable."

 

Once/if Alpha left, he would turn his attention back to Cozy, "Sorry about that. Now, you were saying about Beta, what did she have you do with respect to the princess, and how does that bring you to where we found you?"

" URGHHH!!!" Cozy tried to fight the pain.

" see? I have shown kindness to you Cozy.... Everyone has shown you kindness... And yet... Nevermind. I hope this time you'll be kind to us?" She would then move away from the group and into the farthest corner of the crater.

She looked at Blu for a while trying to figure out something and looked down.

She'd begin to talk.

" I-i met Beta when she was visiting ponyville... the same time you came to ponyville. She saw me and requested for my help...and I couldn't say no to her...."

" you see..."

"The three of them... They were my friends since we were young... I betrayed them... I betrayed everyone... and was punished for it. I wanted to fix the mistakes i made to everyone.. but especially to them..."

" i was happy that she started to talk to me again... Finally i can do something to gain back my friends..."

" i can finally fix what I've done...but in turn fate is cruel and ended up teaching me what I've done to others... I have tasted my own medicine... And i have seen how painful and cruel i have been..."

"She told me that the princess was brainwashed by other dimensional trespassers. And by helping her... I in turn would help not only Scoo- Alpha, Beta and Applebloom... I'll be helping out the whole world...

" i... I was stupid. I made the Princess cry... And now... I can't fix that."

She looks at the crater with hollow emptiness and back to you with a pain in her heart.

" i was successful with my mission. At the cost of angering the Princess. She blew up part of the castle because of me. I awoke the kind princesses anger... The only one who could do it.... Was me."

" beta didn't lie... I did make the princess strong... But I didn't want her to become like that!" She begins to pound the soil beneath her.

She kneels and stares at the ground as she continues to talk.

" As i completed my mission and regretted my actions. Beta ordered me to return to base and a reward was waiting for me from our leader."

" i wanted to complain but she cut me off."

" once i got to the base the members there pointed me to Asthenia and Mara...."

And meeting them...seeing now how blinded i was... I ended up joining the villains once again... And my reward... Is to become one of them..."

"Then i believe you blew up Asthenia's head and destroyed half of Mara's body. Then Alpha fought them to escape and dragged along with me..."

" I've said all i could recall..."

"... I'm ready." Cozy said to Blu while she gently cried. She lowered herself as if she has placed her head into the guillotine.

Her head and neck presented to Blu openly.

Basher would rush out the room to get you something to drink.

" you were out for a few minutes entering the room. So maybe an hour all en all? Maybe less than that?" Griff replied nonchalant.

" ahmm now that Fuoco's awake... Im sure you're satisfied, right Griff? You dont need to worry about her anymore, so lets go help the other's outside." Light invited Griff.

" who said i was worried!" He quickly scrammed out. It seems he was blushing.

White would giggle a bit and bow down to Fuoco and take his leave as well.

Not long after Basher has brought four cups. One with water,  the other, tea and the last two seems to be liquor with different colors. 

Fuoco can tell, as the cups give a hint of odor of tea, and liquor. But who can tell if the clear liquid is really water... Surely enough the cup with tea on it is obvious because of its scent and warmth of the cup.

" oh my, Basher." Misty gave a disagreeing look to her.

" Liquor would be bad for her at this time."

Basher could only feel down and ashamed.

Misty would hand over the tea to Fuoco.

Blu rolled his eyes, "Not hardly. Besides, I told you I'd leave you for dead, not kill you. Now, by your account, Beta is a traitor who should be captured or killed on sight. Is there a chance that she might have been replaced? Such that the Beta you knew growing up was not the Beta you've been in contact with? That determines if I need to kill on sight or capture first. Second, what exactly did Beta have you do for the princess? It must have been something drastic to have such a pronounced change in such a short period. Third, how were you in contact with Beta? Was it exclusively in person? by magic? some form of technology?"

Misty would answer her question.

" well the dragon is the only thing worth worrying about, and you've neutralized it.... So the rest of the team are just handling the remaining infected. Although it seems there where more than a hundred, everyone was fired up seeing you in action that it seems they can take on a thousand more!" She enthusiastically said to you.

"So don't worry we got this!"

She'd begin to cast healing magic on you.

" tell me where i should concentrate the healing."

A few minutes and basher would be back with water and tea.

Misty would bow and give her thanks as this time she would drink some tea and continue healing Fuoco.

Soon after the sun would set but no news would reach them about tye battlefield.

He shook his head, "Regardless, that's not your fault. You trusted Beta, and probably had good reason to. Her misleading you shouldn't be held against you."

His interest was piqued though by the device he was presented with, "Now that is something I can work with."

He quickly cleared a small area before opening the Kernel, setting it up to analyze the device Cozy had given him. Unless it was especially strange in it's construction, Blu would soon know how it worked, whether it was magical or technological in origin, and if he could use it to somehow reverse the connection, and find where the messages had come from.

He wasn't terribly confident in that last option, but he could hope.

Fuoco raised an eyebrow when Misty didn't answer her other question. "You didn't answer about Starlight. I can handle it if we still haven't heard anything, or if we've gotten bad news."

In regards to the healing, she stretched out her neck, before pointing to her throat. "You should be able to find my throat node around here, where my vocal chords are. Those might be damaged too. But I think just rejuvenating the node should be enough for now, if you can do that."

Fuoco would grow more concerned that no other news came for them, but wouldn't comment on it. Given what she had seen, she figured that everything was fine, and they wanted her to rest. Surely, they'd tell her if something needed to happen.

"....i believed her. Because i wanted what she said to be true... Because i was jealous." She stared at the distance.

" i was replaced by that bat pony, just like that. Im so petty. What am i doing?" Cozy was genuinely confused at what she's done at this point.

Alot of her actions and decision has brought her down.

 The device worked on magic and revealed a translucent thread attached to it.

It seems it cannot be physically touched, but it leads to something.

The cool touch of the water and her magic begins to sooth the pain away.

Misty too was getting nervous as time pass them by, while Basher stayed on guard and show no worry.

A few minutes would pass and a knock on the door would disturb them.

It was Gruit Earl inviting everyone for dinner.

" im sure you gals are hungry. is she awake? If so then its best we give her a proper meal." He said on the otherside of the door.

 Misty would look at Fuoco and ask.

Blu only half listened to what else Cozy had to say, maintaining his attention on the Kernel's results for the device. When the translucent thread was revealed, he smiled, "Looks like we have a lead."

He would draw Cozy's attention to the thread, "Does this look familiar? You think it might lead us somewhere worthwhile?"

It seems Alpha is the only one Blu can ask about this and she seems smug about it from the distance, as if she knows you'll need her help.

Shallow would narrow her eyes towards Alpha and speak up about her.

Gruit Earl would lead the group downstairs to eat.

There the injured can be seen recovering from their injuries. It wasnt a bloody one,ore of a bruised up ponies having a drink to numb the pain. But the atmosphere seems to be down. It seems victory in their souls are not kindled.

There their table presented. A feast well made. 

" please eat up. i know the food served to you is a bit special. But we insist that you get fed well. Take it as a token of our appreciation." Gruit earnestly said.

The rest of the injured in the room would nod in agreement and give a smile towards Fuoco, if she ever feel conscious of the well made food prepared for them.

Blu didn't even consider asking Alpha, he was only really asking in case someone knew it might be dangerous, "No worries then, we have a lead to follow." Blu would close up the Kernel and prep his stuff for moving, intending on following the thread wherever it might lead, unless Alpha came back with word as to any hints Starlight might have left.

He didn't call out to her either, figuring that she'd come back one she'd found something. If she decided to keep her distance, or withhold information, she was only harming her perceived usefulness, which was already held in low esteem by Blu.

It would take him about fifteen minutes to get ready to move, at which point he would start traveling.

 

(Fuoco)

Fuoco looked concerned when she saw the glum nature of the room, she spoke discretely to Gruit, "We beat the largest hoard you've all seen and you're not celebrating? How many did we lose?"

Curious, she followed the thread with her eyes and soon after has known on which way this will lead them.

Alpha would inform to everyone:

" this will probably lead us to one of the mage towers of SMILE. Hopefully we can find something in there."

...she paused and pondered for a bit, and pieced two questions together.

" .... I think that threads purpose is to track the devices location." Alpha began to put her guard up and became cautious of her surroundings.

" what? Thats bad right?" Shallow asked.

" who knows..." Alpha's only reply.

 

Fuoco.

Gruit would look around as if trying to find the right answer to give.

" please. Rest up for a bit and enjoy the food first. The ponys out here are just real tired and worn out is all."

The crowd would try to cheer up a bit for the sake of not making Fuoco worry.

But gruit knows not to hide secrets or hold information on her.

In the end, he'd tell her:

" sadly the battle hasn't ended yet, and the sun is setting. it seems the numbers we picked up wasn't accurate. Theres more beyond the forest."

"Our plan is to bunker on the village for the night and evacuate towards the crystal empire at morning. Is it alright if you rest for the day to lead us tomorrow? Without you in good shape to lead i could say good by to the moral of everyone."

Everyone in the inn would calmly cheer for her.
