To those who did not want Twilight to become a princess, what direction would you have preferred the show to go in?

So, while I've never strongly opposed Twilight becoming the Princess of Friendship (although I wasn't a fan of her becoming the ruler of Equestria)  I have noticed that some people still are.  Twilight being a princess affects certain plot points and aspects of the show from that point on (mainly the finales). To those who disliked her being a princess, what direction should her character have gone in? And what direction would you have preferred the show going in?

I just think season 3 was way too early! But considering they thought the show was ending, it made sense back then. She could totally have become a teacher much like she does as a princess.

Speaking of ruler of equestria, did the writer of the finale not remember anything from the past 6 seasons? She literally already has a castle tailored to her role and now it's empty, that's so frustrating.

I pretty much mimic Azure Dawn's opinion. It was too soon, but it was understandable at the time. It would probably have been better if Celestia and Luna's retirement were tied to Twilight becoming a princess. Not that I like their retiring... I think that Twilight should have been to Ponyville as Cadance was to the Crystal Empire. But there you have it.

I'm not totally against Twilight having become an alicron, though I share the common complaint that it all happened way too fast, and yes I do understand why. 
If she didn't become an alicorn I feel like we could have gotten a lot of what we got just without Twi being able to fly, so some scenes would have to change to reflect that, Twilight eventually becoming a successor to Celestia is mentioned way early on by Lauren Faust and I feel like that could just as easily have worked if Twilight just became a very powerful unicorn like Star Swirl the Bearded instead of an Alicorn but honestly tomato tomato.

I don't personally like the replacing Celestia plot at all, perhaps more focus could have been placed on Twilight and friends wielding the elements of harmony and doing great deeds around Equestria as well, just that, the elements of harmony, not princess and friends  essentially helping Celestia and Luna rule instead of replacing them is what I'd personally have preferred.

I wanted her to keep her position as the Ponyville Librarian, and while I didn't like every aspect of the School of Friendship, I'm glad they brought back her role as an educator.

Speaking of... Ponyville never got another library. Sure twilight got one in her own castle, but nopony else really used it. Heck, in the comics, the one time she saw someone reading her books her first instinct was violence.

I do like Twilight becoming a princess. The only thing I'd change is having Magical Mystery Cure be a 2 part special. The episode, imo, feels too rushed just being one part. And you'd think something as significant as the protagonist becoming an alicorn would get the honors of being 2 parts.

Going off other commenters mentioning the library; I vastly prefer her old library to the castle she ends up with after its destroyed. Really was not a fan of Tirek just straight up destroying it in Twilight's Kingdom. The library has so much more personality, it was homely. The castle seems cold, and overdone, it's like the complete opposite of the Golden Oak Library. That said the castle existing did lead to "Castle Sweet Castle" being made which is an episode I really like so there's that at least.

I don't mind much that she became a princess, though I wasn't a big fan of the finale and how they made her ruler of Equestria. Completely ruined the point of the castle she got. Would've been cool if she'd become a princess later on. I loved when she was a librarian.

I liked that she became a princess and a alicorn, wouldn't change anything about it, maybe only the episode where that happens, Magical Mystery Cure being a musical episode and also not being in two parts wasn't very pleasant for me, I would've made the journey to achieve such transformation bigger, but nothing really bothers me, I think the episode is fine the way it is, but I definitely wouldn't make Twilight into the ruler of Equestria in the show's finale, that didn't work for me.
