What were your initial thoughts on MLP?

I've been a fan for 10 years.  10. whole. years. I can't remember the exact date of when I started getting into My Little Pony, but I can probably narrow it down to September of 2015.

It started when I first discovered some Pokémon music video that was set to "A True True Friend". I was rather surprised when I found out that the song was originally from a My Little Pony cartoon. I have heard of the franchise’s name before then and I initially dismissed it as some childish show targeted to girls, but after watching that and another video set to the Cafeteria Song numerous times, my curiosity got the best of me and I looked more into the characters on both the show’s wiki and TV Tropes. The first episodes I watched were Stare Master, Rarity Investigates, and Read It and Weep and I’ve pretty much been a fan since.

Instead of asking how you got into MLP, I'll instead ask what your first thoughts were as you were first becoming a fan? Were you dismissive at first like I was? How long did it take for the realization to set in, like, "Okay, I like ponies now"?

I was part of the mainstream back in 2010-2013 that though negatively of the show and adult male fanbase without having seen any of it, simply tagging along with the outrage of others at such a bizarre phenomenon.

That was until one night after school I thought to take a look at what all the fuss was about in the first place, at the time I was sure I wouldn't like FIM and simply be able to say something to the tune of “this is what all those weirdos are watching???”

Fate would be much much more ironic and I thoroughly enjoyed many episodes that MLP had to offer. :Laugh_Pipp

Uuuuuuh dear princess Celestia :jazz-hooves-please: that day I learned it isn’t fair to judge things you don’t know anything about.

Back in 2011 I thought two of my friends were pulling my leg when they were telling me to watch it. I didn't know anything at all, not even that there was a series at the time. I vaguely pictured Generation 3 and it's lack of appeal for my demographic, but they said it shared similarities with power puff girls which everyone remembers for being kick ass, so I thought sure, why not.

I watched the latest episode, Season 2 Episode 20 "It's About Time" and was impressed, but not sold. They said I had to watch at least 3 episodes, so I watched the first 3, and the potential for lore and actual character development got to me. From there on it was everything pony, with a good mix of other topics I was into.

So skeptical, open minded and surprised.

My first time seeing anything related to Friendship is Magic was a parody of "Epic Meal Time" so my first thought was: "Wow. They cuss A LOT!"

then I watched the real show and it wasn't nearly as "colorful" as the parody made it sound. 😜

I knew that MLP existed, and I had heard about the subculture that had sprung up around it, but I really didn't give it a lot of thought or attention.  I was pretty disillusioned with fandoms in general and really had no desire to join in another one.  Then, I started seeing ponies popping up in the places I normally frequented back then, I saw a few fan videos, and I decided to finally see what all the fuss was about.  Ponyville Confidential was the first episode I sat and watched, and after that I binged the entire first and second seasons.  So, I essentially went from indifferent to invested.

As a kid, I was first introduced to G3 but I thought it was too "girly" despite being a girl myself. I was also pretty indifferent to G4 since I'd just see it on TV in passing. It wasn't until I decided to rent Equestria Girls that I truly got interested in the show, which I know is a weird way to start! :ButtercupLaugh:

What else is funny is that once I actually started watching all the G3 specials, I grew to really like it! Now that I'm older, I like more cutesy and simplified things since it's a nice break from the real world.
