Need help trying to find a book

Hey y'all, in my elementary years (I think in 3rd or 4th grade) there was a book we had to read in class and I want to read it again. I think it was way above my comprehension level at the time so I don't remember much about it.

The only details I can remember is that it was translated from Korean, involved a child and a parental character, and shards of glass or some sort of pottery (which is probably a metaphor rather than literal). I think it was 200 or 300 pages long?
