Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,527 July 1, 2012 Founder Share July 1, 2012 We don't have any mod in the Skype room, now do we? (I don't know, I've never been there actually) Then why would the chat on the forums have to be monitored 24/7? Actually, I think we do... We do. Every admin and global moderator has mod access to the Skype group and can edit/remove messages and kick/ban members from it. It is possible to earn warnings for misbehaviour in there as well, but people generally behave much better in the Skype group than they ever did in the IP.Chat room. It has been much easier on our end to manage and moderate. 3 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi
Nah 3,182 July 1, 2012 Share July 1, 2012 Yes, there is days I miss chat, but I have moved forward, if you want to talk to your friends privately, PM them. Skype them, anything, IP chat was broken and problematic, and more mods would've just made us feel like we were being to oppressed. We moved forward without the chat, lets not live in the past.

Shankveld 4,949 July 1, 2012 Share July 1, 2012 (edited) While I agree, I don't feel as connected to the rest of the froums without the chat. I understand it's never going to come back. Yes, proper moderation could be used to ban spammers and the 'obnoxious' people, but the mods don't think that's worth their time. I also agree that skype is WAY too laggy and the constant messages are too annoying to use. So IMing members is not an option for me. For me personally, I'd sign on to the forums; comment on every thread that interested me and then go to chat. Now I do the same except log-off. But again, it's gone and we're never going to get it back. ~ Edited July 1, 2012 by Shankveld

NavelColt 22,881 July 1, 2012 Share July 1, 2012 LOG OFF?! I have a tab open 24/7! This. One does not simply 'log off' MLPForums with ease. Shank can because she's Shank, but for the average forum-goer, clinging to the site throughout the day is non-optional </3 Seems like we're hitting the gray area of 'this thread is nearly done', to me. As several people have now said, Omnipony + minions clearly has no interest in changing the way things are.
Solar Wind 595 July 1, 2012 Share July 1, 2012 lol i came here from another forums site and I think this argument could go 2 ways the first way states that chat helped them connect instantly to other bronies and pegasisters online immediately thus keeping the friendchips fresh and new everytime they logged on however you have to be aware that there is always one or 2 people who come along and ruin the whole thing. it should not be a moderators job to babysit chat 24/7 to make sure things stay alright there are 2 sides to every story but in this case asking people to sit around and watch other people post constantly searching for any spammers, arguments etc. etc. is selfish and for that person would turn this fun and whimshcal site into a boring job in short sometimes people have to think of another persons feelings before they complain something is gone. 1 See, I'm Greed. I want everything you can think of. Money and women, power and SEX. I want everything this world's selling! and immortality's topping the list! Fizz. 1,078 July 1, 2012 Author Share July 1, 2012 If what you want is real-time talk, then I'd suggest looking for an IRC network to join rather than a pony forum. Canternet and Ponychat are two of the popular ones, and they've got legions of moderators to keep them under control. The internet forum was never designed for instantaneous communication - its virtue is that its slower pace of communication allows for higher-quality content, and said content is then archived indefinitely. Okay, the problem here is that I want a chat with the members HERE. But you won't let us do anything to achieve that. You won't allow users to link their own, which is a problem. I don't want to chat random ponies, what i miss is talking with the people here, but we have no way to set that up if you delete every thread that offers one. You may be thinking, "throw more moderators at the problem!" but that honestly isn't going to solve anything. Based on the survey we ran in March, there was a virtually perfect 50:50 split of members who thought that chatroom moderation was too strict or too lax. And that will solve the problem of quality-lacking posts? I don't want to start a war on this thread, that's what will get this thread locked and remove space for good discussion not full of two trolls trolling eachother. so I'll keep this brief with lots of white space inbetween. Adding [Mature] Tags easier to manage than a chat room full of immature brats. "What site" ok genius, google "porn chat." Have fun. Ever tried moderating incoming links? You CAN CHAT in Minecraft and Steam, they have CHAT. Even an offsite chat like you want. (Plus there's still Skype) I'd be happy too for a bit, but it would fall again. Nobody would win in the end. NSFW is bad. And that is why offsite links should be minimized. And yes, my bad; the rules say offsite links to YOUR page are no good. This is the Feedback page, correct. Send your feedback, correct. Here's YOUR feedback. Who said "you hate mods?" I said you were "hating on stuff that shouldn't be an issue;" And that if you diverged your time from hating the decisions that saved us, you could get to know the mods as I do. The mods make their mistakes, but I love them anyway. The chat has mistakes, and you still love it. You made a mistake of even bringing the forbidden subject back up, I still love you. Heck, I just made a mistake with the offsite link section of the rules (above.) And I know darn well Feld0 won't want me murdered brutally. Oh yeah, we have a facebook page too. Chat there. Enjoy. >implying there's trolls here, lrn2internet >implying a porn chat wouldn't be deleted in ten seconds >implying my slow laptop could even run minecraft >implying I'm hating their decisions rather than just disagreeing, which apparently isn't okay? >implying love has anything to do with anything here >implying I would want to chat with forum members here using my actual facebook name >implying anyone here is on facebook (well that worked pretty well) http://alt="img-3411728-1-kQpW0ME.png">
Bronium 512 July 1, 2012 Share July 1, 2012 The only reason why I feel that something should be removed if it's hurts the forums. And I don't mean quality wise. I mean money wise. If it had a net loss of prospective members who could become donors, well it makes sense to shut it off. If it was losing money (for some sort of technical reason) and it wasn't worth the money used (which is debatable) , it should be shut down. But if it does neither, I'm not too sure as to why it should be shut down. Also why not make it a barren wasteland? Why does it have to be moderated? I mean, why not have a at your own risk type of thing? If people will brave the land, why not? Let them do that. It's their decision. Just my 2 cents. That's all. I mean I wasn't here when chat was online and probably others have brought up my points but oh well. Just my opinion. This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree? For I am sick of replying to this thread only getting nowhere except closer to a ban. Enjoy your well-earned and flawless victory, and all the hot girls that come with it (or guys...I won't judge.) Crazy Misty 653 July 1, 2012 Share July 1, 2012 I loved the chat, it was a great place to go when I had no one talk to or I was just plain bored, it also had a nice homey feel to it that I don't get the same feel with the skype group. But it had so many problems that outweigh the good of it, it makes users stop making quality posts and just go on the chat, also it was hard to moderate. I loved the chat but it was gone for a good reason. siggy by PixiGlow

I mean I wasn't here when chat was online and probably others have brought up my points but oh well. Just my opinion. Money was the last consideration that went into this. MLP Forums has enough income to easily support a chatroom. A few people "threatened" to stop donating if we didn't re-open the chatroom, but it never was about money to begin with. I'll answer the bolded suggestion directly: as I said in an earlier post, MLP Forums has certain standards that we wish to uphold, and creating an "enter at your own risk" area of the site with absolutely no moderation is opening the door to an unfathomable range of drama, trolling, spamming, and butthurt that, while I'm sure a few will understand not to take personally, is still going to create memories closely associated with MLP Forums in people's minds. They're going to remember that night when they were called a shithead and humiliated for "lulz," or that morning when images of the biggest-breasted women on the planet were being exchanged. The memories that will be made in an "all hands off" environment are, no doubt, still going to be closely linked to MLP Forums, and they will affect how members perceive the site as a whole, for better or (much more likely) for worse. I hold this place to a higher standard than 4chan. If you want an "all hands off" environment, MLP Forums isn't going to give you one. 7 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi

FinalGamer 192 July 2, 2012 Share July 2, 2012 (edited) Yanno I always did wonder what happened to the chat. And as much as I enjoyed the immediate interaction with all of you guys, I think this was the best choice. Chat cannot be supervised 24/7, and as a result, it'd be a wild card of indecency and spam. At least a forum is much easier to moderate because you can just BOOP-delete and regulate anything unsavoury. Three letters why I don't like Chat rooms. Whiteshade 1,426 July 2, 2012 Share July 2, 2012 I joined right when chat died. The chat tab was still there but it already died. So I can't make an informed opinion on this, but I'll say that the removal of the chat room has slowed my progress, since I lurk the chatrooms of every other community I've been in. Skype isn't the same because its too slow and fairly inconvenient (which is a grave sin business model wise), meaning not as many users would go through the hassle of installing Skype then adding people, meaning less users using it overall.
