FedoraMemes 582 July 5, 2012 Share July 5, 2012 > 800 word rebuttal with link to 147 page report = 0 brohoofs > 2 word witty response = 15 brohoofs I rest my case. I admit it, I make many witty responses, but I also make serious ones, which is how I got my brohoofs. One of the posts that gave me the most was witty, yet keeping on-topic and actually related to it at the same time. 2 The Anime Thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/20661-the-anime-thread/page__hl__the%20anime%20thread
Whiteshade 1,426 July 5, 2012 Share July 5, 2012 Relevance, is what is relevant. Thank you for clearing that up. I could not have deduced that on my own. On a serious note, I agree with everything there, so you have my endorsement. 2 Warning: Signature may cause seizures, owner will sue you if you complain Nothing happens, yet everything changes. Shankveld 4,949 July 5, 2012 Share July 5, 2012 Personally I don't see a lot of 'spammers' on the site, mostly because they go no attention and end up leaving. I honestly don't think this is a real issue. ~ If we go by brohoof to post ratio then I can never be considered a post whore I have more hoofs than posts Have another bro :3 It's all about quality, not quantity! This goes for posts as well. You don't need to write a novel to make your point. Most people don't want to read that (might be why some of you aren't getting brohoofs). ~
Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,526 July 5, 2012 Founder Share July 5, 2012 I'm pretty sure you could take a screenshot of the post and show feld0 in pms. Please use the report system instead. It effectively accomplishes the exact same thing, but is much easier and more efficient on both your end and mine. Idealistically, people would post and participate in threads that they can contribute to in a thoughtful way. They'd form opinions, voice their views, share their insight, etc. Seeing a bunch of posts like these are a delight, as long as they are relevant and logical. I'd only get annoyed by someone spamming nonsensical things. It's all about quality, not quantity! ^ This a thousand times. Strife 455 July 6, 2012 Share July 6, 2012 The entire concept of "Likes" (brohoofs) is meaningless without "Dislikes" to balance it out. But even then, the concept is seriously flawed - but not because of the concept itself - rather the people who use the system do not follow the reason it is in place. In most communities, the Upvote button is there to denote quality posts that contribute positively to the discussion, regardless if you agree with that person. Although this button has been mutated and mutilated to popularly be used to instead denote if you like the post or not. Unfortunately, the large spectrum of people's tastes and tendencies skew the like:post ratio. For example, oftentimes posts that are extremely well-written are ignored, while a post that contains little-to-no content gets a bunch of Brohoofs. A lot of these times it's just people reposting / linking to other things ... not even content they've made or put together. A large portion of the time Brohoofs are given for stupid, frivolous things. Need examples? Look at other posts in this very thread. Point: "Brohoofs" mean absolutely nothing.

False Perception 482 July 15, 2012 Share July 15, 2012 (edited) Probably already been posted, but since I'm too busy to read 3 pages of this, then I'll just state my opinion. This depends on what YOUR definition of post-whore is. I hit bird in a month. Is that post-whoring? It depends on what you definition of "a lot" is? To me, and many others present, 600 is not much. Yes, I could have done it faster. But I didn't because: 1) I was cautious enough to avoid making off-topic posts or anything else that broke the rules, but I can't say I don't have an inbox full of ticked mods, if you catch my drift. 2) Well, there was gonna be a (2), but I forgot. Yeah, I would have way more posts if that didn't happen... And in any case, you don't need a lot of posts to be well known, (yet it obviously helps), but instead just make great posts. I can recognize the guy that makes the Fallout:Equestria fanart quicker than I can most pegasi ranks members, only because he's (SO BUCKING) amazing in what he posts, and he's a PARASPRITE. Oh, and PROTIP: If you want quick brohoofs, be a mod. Edited July 15, 2012 by DoubleFrenzyWithCheese Swoop said: If something does happen to go horribly wrong, please, blame Zoop. Evilshy 5,090 July 16, 2012 Share July 16, 2012 (edited) ETYMOLOGY TIME! So, post whore obviously comes from "whore", which is a slang term for prostitute. As we all know, a prostitute is someone who puts out for money. This should not be confused with "slut", which is a slang term for someone who puts out simply because they like sex. Taken out of a sexual context, an X-whore is someone who does X (where X is some activity) because they get some benefit out of it. They may or may not like doing X, but they do enjoy the benefit enough to the point where they do X a lot, regardless of how much hey like doing it. So basically, a post whore is somebody who posts a lot with their main motivation being that they like to watch their post count increase. If you like watching your post counter increase and, because of this, post a lot when you might normally not, you are a post whore. If you like posting and, because of this, post a lot, then you are not a post whore, but a post slut. If you post a lot, and the majority of you're posts have no real meaning, you are a spammer. One can be a spammer at the same time as being a post whore/slut, but if one is a post whore/slut, one is not necessarily a spammer. It comes down to what your biggest motivation for posting is. NavelColt 22,879 July 16, 2012 Share July 16, 2012 (edited) Just my two cents on a few of the latest posts I've skimmed through: A dislike feature would be a horrendously bad idea. Brohoofs being seen as nothing but pure fun and nothing to make a big deal over is absolutely fine, that's how it should be, because whether they're being used correctly all the time or not, they don't cause any problems. But adding the ability to dislike posts, too, would simply open up a can of potential drama, butthurt ponies and snarky remarks that would run across the board and never really stop. More headaches for staff, less relaxation and enjoyment for members, and a huge open door for problems. Just, no. As we've seen, receiving brohoofs can have a noticeably positive impact on people. We don't need to be encouraging drama and irritation by giving people the ability to have the power to do that in a negative way. Don't like someone's post, quote them and tell them why. Sun 34 July 16, 2012 Share July 16, 2012 My opinion; • Just because you're a low rank, doesn't mean your a 'noob'. • You can be a very high rank and be a 'noob'. • You can be a very low rank and know what your doing. I quite enjoy ranking up, but don't like when others think you're a noob because of your ranking. Not saying anyone here said it, but it's just my opinion.
Nah 3,182 July 16, 2012 Share July 16, 2012 As much of a bad situation as this is, I've seen this plenty of times before it got out of hand here and frequently on other forums. This is also why I am opposed to RPing as official posts, people use it as a way to rank up. (If you really want that many posts) Finally difference between quality posts and whored posts Quality: Well written with little to no grammar, spelling, punctuation errors. 1-3 or more paragraphs On-topic Member is high ranked (not always but likely) Post whored: Poorly written 1-2 sentences Tons of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Off topic Low ranking member (not always, but likely) Hope that helped.
Juggler 345 July 16, 2012 Share July 16, 2012 Quality: Well written with little to no grammar, spelling, punctuation errors. I know that lack of grammar/spelling can be annoying, but some people aren't that good with the language. I myself doesn't have English as my first language, so it isn't perfect. But I like to think that I'm quite good and don't make mistakes that often. But there are people that aren't good at English at all. And especially since this forum also turns to younger members there can be quite a few mistakes. I think that what you mean to say is: If someone doesn't even care about making sure to have as few mistakes as possible, then it's not a quality post. If someone tries really hard, but still makes quite a few mistakes is that wrong? (Haha, I'm reading through this post a lot of times now to make sure that I have close to no mistakes ) 1 Signature made by Midnightive
