As much as possible? Oh IT. IS. ON.

1. Draw in the middle of the paper. I draw in the middle of the left half. That gives me enough space to draw in the middle of the right half.

2. Start with shapes. Circles and lines! Don't just start freedrawing the pony. (This is for accuracy)

3. Take the picture with the camera directly overhead. I can't really criticize because of the angle.

4. Those are some thick lines. Try using a pencil sharpener. If you really like the style of using thick lines, learn to use a marker (Sharpie, not crayola, mkay?) Or even pen. I have no markers actually...

Marker gives a nice effect though.

5. Practice with references. This is so after you're done you can play "Spot the difference" with your picture and the reference.

6. Practice without references. This is so you become comfortable drawing your own pose.

These are the steps that I took. Good luck!

Well my first drawing didn't even look like a pony so I must say this is great. One thing though she looks a bit thicker then she should be. (or thats what you were trying to do)

My crituqe-

  • The snout is too narrow/sharp. It seems as if she could stab a filly.
  • The smile just isn't.. Fluttershy enough. Not enough emotion, is what I am trying to say.
  • The hair is spot on. I commend you on that.
  • The wings are much better than I can ever do. Nice job.
  • The tail... not so much. It seems as if you intended to make it stretch so far it extends off the page.
  • Her flank is nicely rounded (As weird as that sounds.) Many people cannot get the flank to be round enough, so it looks wrong.
  • The bottom butterfly in her cutie mark is smudged, and a little off.
  • Same with the tail, it seems like you made the middle leg just extend to the end. You did not have enough room at all it seems, as her middle leg looks misshapend.
  • Her eye is ADORABLE. You captured that, I am happy to say.

All in all, pretty nice drawing. And for being your FIRST pony drawing, you earned an extra point.

4/5

these two drawings were a bit just trying somethings on a smaller scale. 1st one was me trying to draw a pony at a differet angle the 2nd one well i just wanted to draw a pony with a jetpack.

Resources? What do you mean? x3

You can draw however many ponies you want using just a pencil and some references.

Again, some proportional issues and stuff. You might want to use a reference if you haven't already.

well all these drawings were done on the same sheet of paper (the back of my phone bill), I spent 5-10 minutes just looking of a pencil last night and i dont have a sharpener.

Oh. You should take a trip to Staples or the dollar store for resources. It'll be worth it.

Her nose should be rounded off. Because the top part is straight, I have a feeling that I could put a table on it and it wouldn't wiggle. So round the nose off. Her face expression is a bit unemotional; try making her smile angle up a big more. Her back left leg is too thin. try looking at a picture of a pony leg before drawing that. Lastly, although this might sound picky, Fluttershy has 5 feathers that stick out on her wing, not 4. I do like how you made the wing though, except for the amount of feathers on it, it looks exactly the same as an "official" MLP pony's wing. I also like the mane, you didn't mess up there at all. Really, for a first try it's very, very good.

thanks for all the feed back so far

here was the picture i was referencing from.

iv'e noticed that iv'e drawn her snout a little too long, i drew her pupil too big and her smile needed to be more curved.

The first one is excellent, I can't make out anything not adressed by the posters above me. Sadly working from references only makes you good at drawing references. Learning the proportions is the best way

This should help somewhat.

Another great way are blindbagponies (if you can geta hold of some)
