Certainly does for me! Although the contrabass saxophone is a bit out there.

It rocks in jazz music, but the low woodwind/brass instruments have got it beat for me.

I can play some good tunes on keyboard! :D

I have been playing for a few years, I find it hard to read off a sheet of music but you give me a piece and I can eventually learn it as i am good with remembering rhythms and melodies.

then why's ur avatar playing a viol instrument?

Because there are no ponies in the show that play the flute?

There is this one artist on deviantArt who made a really good image of Fluttershy with a flute, though!

I'm playing Alt Saxophone, Bariton Saxophone, Guitar, Bass and Piano.

I play saxophone for 11 years now, but I play the bass more often because I also play in a band.

You should play baritone saxophone in that band.

It would automatically make it even better, I guarantee you. =P

I wish I was in a band! that seems like so much fun! not sure they'd like me being classically trained though?

Well as some of you know, I play piano.

I also play trumpet in my high school marching band, but I'm not nearly as good nor do I enjoy it as much. Mostly because 8 hours a week of afterschool band practice and 13 hours a day summer band camp gets really tiring...

Started playing the piano when I was 8, and eventually ended up playing in various competitions around the state when I was in high school. At the time I wasn't a huge fan of the classical music that dominated my repertoire, but I do like Beethoven's later work, when he was more of a bitter, antisocial eccentric.

Over the years I tried various other instruments. These days I mostly play electric guitar (6 and 7 string) and bass (4 and 5 string). I have an 1879 Steinway in storage, but I won't be bringing it out anytime soon, since my work has me moving every few years. Instead, I generally use a Yamaha digital piano.

A while back I played a little drums and trumpet, but didn't stick with it.

Personally, I find that having a saxophone in a metal band would be an awesome idea. Not only that, but it would also help to distinguish you from other generic metal bands. It could really add personality to your band. That's what I think anyway! :P

And it's definitely possible to make hard rock with nontraditional instruments such as a sax. For example take a look at a band like Van der Graaf Generator.

Sure it's not exactly metal, but it's still relatively heavy I think. The only instruments here are bass, drums, organ and saxophone.
