Roleplay World - Post Count incrementation removed in Roleplays

Okay, now I get it. If no quality posts are coming out of there, then no need to increase post count. If your all is not given to the fact you are writing a novel, then its really just a game.

I guess the admin / mod region has read a bit about SEO and is now going crazy about quality content. They'll end up wanting us to use specific keywords everywhere to make sure we are going along with their marketing / positioning strategy.

Where's the need for 'quality content' in an RP section? If I think a user is posting to short messages or being a bad RPer I can always (and it has worked fine for me) ask a mod or the RP owner to address the issue.

If the mods want us to make the content as high quality as EQD's content to rank against them and Wikipedia for the terms 'My little pony' and 'Brony' on Google (or increase Facebook shares) they should start typing themselves and not force the users to do so.

All the 'issues' that have been addressed have not improved anybody's experience on the forum (at least for me). I'm fine with introducing the char limit for the RP section (as many RPs really turned into one liner spam fests) but it made no sense to force it on OOC threads and the whole post count thing is just to keep people away from the RP section and force them to post to the rest of the forums.

But I don't give a damn about many of the sections (and most of the time I have no time to RP and check the rest of the forums) and don't like being forced to do so.

well final point from me after it took me 10 minutes to play catch up (damn slow computer)

the reason that the post count was remove was because people shooting up un the badge ranking system and i've noticed the there have been people who have hit pony and even brony badges by souly RPing so yeah the post count has now been stopped and those people who we are complaining abut are still keep there high badges.

im starting to see badges as a the problem now, i first though of them as little mile stones so show how much time im wasting on the site.

bleh im babbling so i'll make my point

i think we should either do without badges compleatly, remove all the post eveyone has ever got from RP making them a lower badge rank (i.e i have 653 posts 215 in RP so if you remove them i should then be a bunny or squirrel) or pehaps find another way to implement the badges or let people chose the badge they want to use after they inlock them also mybe an achevement system

(slaps face aahh i still babbling )

end of post

You might be interested to know that the site comes up first for quite a few google keywords. Google it yourself, or head over to welcoming plaza and look at how many new members found the site through google. I doubt we'll start being forced to use keywords, but yes, quality posts are encouraged because they make the site look better to non-members. And posting with other people who put time into what they say and try to make quality posts gives a better experience for everybody here, excepting, of course, the people who just want to spam it up. But we have Coudsdale for that.

Sooooo... Tell me again how you're being forced into anything? Are badges so important to you that you feel like any slight impediment into gaining new ones is an encroach on your freedom?

What are you, a little child?

Who gives a damn about the badges? I still don't get it.

I'm not complaining about post count, badges or anything. I'm just sick that every 'fix' to the situation just makes it worse. There's been pointless fixes made to make something work that is worthless.

In order to make a badge based ranking system work nobody should care about they've started adding rules that make no sense to make sure everybody is 'fair'.

There's just some problems to this fixed version:

A. The more I post doesn't automatically make me a better member, it would be even better to rank people by Brohoofs (although I can already imagine the derp caused by that).

B. The quality of a content is not measured by means of amount of written characters. If a member spams it is better to report them than to have them write more of their crap.

C. Making the RP world not count as a way to rank is a way to make it the system unfair. Am I a worse member for coming here to RP? I need to make my posts the same quality as everyone, where is the fairness by not making them count?

We're coming here for fun, and if I want serious discussion I can ask as OP / RP owner to keep the thread clean.

There's somebody who cares about the badges? What are we, little children?

Even if I am *insert whatever the f**k I'm right now* forever. I couldn't care less, I think all this badge stuff is stupid to say the least and I can't understand how a badge gives anybody fame or whatever they're supposed to give.

About the post count, I don't get why you would stop to count the posts in any section (same here, I don't care about it) but being here to RP it seems like I haven't posted for ages to people who check my profile.

Maybe it's just me but I think Mods and users are overreacting at the whole badge / post count thing.

I don't understand that multi-step screening blah, but I guess you mean that users without a certain amount of posts can't join the RP world and life advice forums. That's useless too, if people want to join the RP world they'll be making stupid posts everywhere else to get into the RP / advice section they care about.

Many people here care about the badge system, I do, look at the previous posts here, some of the oldest members from the opening don't want them gone, it was a gift from Feld0 so we treat it with respect as so, They community had proved itself mature enough to handle them, yet that seems to not be the case. I need to correct you here, even after the whole badge discussion I still don't care what my rank is. I just think it's crazy that people even spend time thinking about it.

And what's worst, they do start to affect my freedom. Where's the need for quality content in an OOC thread? It's just me and 5 other people who should even care to read it.

Now the 'fix' has been made to make people post 'quality content' to OOC. People have started posting all the OOC comments into the RP (I catch myself doing so to avoid having to stretch my words to send the message) or moving the OOC thread to a PM thread so I don't have people reading them and do not need to count my words.

*Clap clap* everything's just working like before, only my OOC thread is on the RP or on PMs. Next step to ensure quality content? OOC will be banned from the RP threads and our PMs will have a word count too.

The badges are worked out nice and it's all fine. But I still don't understand how a badge gives you anything, do you look at my badge before answering a post I make? Do you treat me different because of my rank?

I don't think so. Where's the need to care about the badges, I want to opt them out. The information the badge system itself provides is close to zero, and I wouldn't ever think that anybody deserves my respect because he got a picture with the caption 'brony' under his avatar than somebody who's got a cupcake.

So where's the need to add all the 'quality ensuring rules' to the OOC section (which is the one I find bothersome to have char limits and stuff on) if only few people are even meant to read them and they're just there to comment the things out that don't fit into the RP?

Will the next step be to add it to forum games to? Maybe we need the 'Quality content rate the avatar above you' needing the people to rate the avatar on a scale from 0 to 10^100 with zerofill.

The Idea of RP'ing is to write a story, if your OOC is not a quality character, people can't interact well, nor will you become a better writer. I am not the best RP'er, but I have improved drastically from my time. Sure, someone will always need to improve, but if no one is improving, then there is a problem.

I use the RPG section to improve my writing, and it works. Just going in there to Play another forum game is the problem. Members should be encouraged to be the best they can be, write the best they can, discuss the best they can, then it is more fun when everyone debates well. Also, RP's are often read by dozens of members, so good posts all around.

And this site has great mods. I would have a few warns (whoops. I hate learning curves) on a much stricter site I am a member of. And I think their fixes have been great (now that I understand this one especially).

Well, I think that's my two bits. Probably need to leave before I do something deserving of a warn.

It doesn't give you respect, nor does it mean you need praise from other members, it's called "Recognition" for them achieving a new goal, I'm a unicorn one step from Brony I'm not going to go everywhere and say "I'm a Unicorn, therefore I'm more important than all of you" in somewhere like Welcoming Plaza.

The Badge system is a simple gift, that some people here have misused.

OOC used to have character limits, some people argued too much, and the mods removed character limits and post count in OOC

I haven't said the mods here are bad. I appreciate them as good mods, but that doesn't mean I agree to everything they do.

For me OOC discussion has often meant something like "Hey, mind switching IC topic to X?" or "Can you tell my OC about Y?" and I don't need more than an "Ok, I'll do it" back. There's no need for more.

I try to improve my writing too, there's nothing wrong with that. And the limit on the RP thread doesn't really bother me. I've always got something to tell about my character, and it's easy to come up with thoughts. But there's no need to do that OOC too...

So, what's the point in making the rating system 'fair'? Are you afraid of some RPer being a unicorn just like you?

The badge system may be a gift, but it turns against the people by creating fights about it. This whole discussion generates from people having a problem with the RPers generating an 'unfair' ranking that made them stand 'above' the rest of the members. That proves that who is making a fuss about the problem is the people who are for the removal of the post count.

People are arguing about the fact an RPer is more active than they are. I think I said earlier that I don't care about the fact how many posts I have, I come her for the fun of RPing with people and to chat with those I want to, and if I've got time I check some other threads out.

But just because I'm not into the always repeating topics of "Why do bronies clop?" or "What pony has best ---?" with links to my own posts or with the same answer I always give I'm not less of a member than anybody else and cause less spam than most of the people. The forum just feels like Yahoo answers, where you seem to get the same question 300 times a day.

Aren't there more important tasks to do on this forum than watching my OOC threads for '//////Charlimit' to avoid me posting too few characters?

Hey! Why doesn't anyone remember why we actually came to these forums in the first place? For the people. For the community. For the ponies. I didn't come here to get badges. If I did I could just go join the boy scouts. :3

You're a bird, so your point is wrong. We're all here for the badges, I'll write into my CV: "Was a pegasus on MLP Forums" </sarcasm>

I've never seen anypony do this, and if I had I would have reported him/her.

EDIT: Darn, I'm a butterfly. That's a shame I cannot bear and therefore my CV will stay empty.

Most of my rebuttal has been addressed here. Also, please remember that badges being unfair is not the only reason. It is to decrease spam.

We've heard your opinions, we've heard opposition, and everything. But we are starting to get beyond the scope of this topic about badges and the character limit and the other measures. This thread is about post count incrementation in RP World. It is not about whether or not the character limit in OOC is just. (I've already addressed it in detail here. And here.) To prevent further derailment, I'm just going to put this thread to rest. I think it's run its course.

If you have any further opinions, take them to a different thread where it is relevant. We have several threads already about the character limit. As for badges specifically, as to whether or not they should exist, somepony can make a new thread about that if they chose to. This isn't the place.
