I never seen a Silent Hill thread, so let me start one!

I am a huge fan of the series, just like my sister, we used to play the Silent Hill games, she played and i was next to her, i loved those moments, scared, laughing, and being so attracted by the story.

What do you think about the Silent Hill series? What's your favorite game of the series? Anything related to Silent Hill can go here, and i'd love to see what other people think about this great series.

Well I have personaly never played the games but thanks for beinging it up sounds intresting. There seems to be a bit of games in the series tho, and I am a fan of survival horrors. Maybe if they make a new one for ps3 or something (do you know if they are doing that?) I would get it.

Silent Hill : loved it, it was the first game i played that scared me and opened me up to the horror game of old like clock tower

Silent Hill 2 : even better then the first is still the best horror game of all time but it took me until i got the directors cut to realize that but that is because the other on censored to twist, so when i got the director cut got to see the twist in all its wife murdering glory

Silent Hill3: well its my least favorite of the once i have play but still had some scary stuff.

Silent Hill 4 : this was a great game mainly because it tried to be different and it was sure, my favorite in the series

Silent Hill Origins: never played it

Silent Hill Homecoming: is very very under rated sure we were teased thinking we would have a story about a solider going to silent hill but in stead got a rehash of the first game, but the games combat was great but good damn it was hard especially those blade head things which is why you never use you shot gun shell on anything but them trust me no one else is worth it, now were was o yeah this game is EPIC but i was hindered by a bad story.

Silent Hill shattered memories: Never played but heard good things

Silent Hill downpour : i should rely play because I've heard it good.

Ah yes, i approve of this thread!

Silent Hill is one of them games series that stick with the player through out his/her gaming life, some of the best moments from my gaming history come from a Silent Hill games! I have not played them all, but i have played most of them..

One's i have played~

  • Silent Hill
  • Silent Hill 2
  • Silent Hill Origins
  • Silent Hill Shattered Memories
One's i have yet to play~
  • Silent Hill 3
  • Silent Hill 4
  • Silent Hill Homecoming
If i may, i want to just talk about my experiences with these games great works of art!

So around 2004 (i was 9 years old) my brother brought home Silent Hill 2 from Game Station, and i was like "What is this game?" the cardboard cover and creepy and disturbing cover art drew me in to the point were i could just look at the box for a good 25 minutes alone! After being a big fan of the Resident Evil series i INSTANTLY liked the game from the similarity's of the games design, such as the camera angels and combat style! As it was his game, i wasn't allowed to play it, but i could watch him. I watched with eager as he played through this unreal story line, needless to say, we both were scared shitless!

Now then, everyone remembers that first moment when they saw PyramidHead! The fear that runs through you is like nothing iv ever felt, and PyramidHead still remains THE scariest video game character EVER! Now, after enjoying this game so much and wanting to play it myself, i saved up some money and my mother took me to Game Station to buy a copy, now when i got there, there wasn't any copies left, so i was very upset and went through the PlayStation one game section of the shop, and after looking for something like "Resident Evil" i came across a dirty box, that was all cracked and had very dirty and bloody/dark cover art, i picked it up and had a look, it was the Original Silent Hill! So without thinking about it, i got and brought it home! I still remember popin the disc in and watching that intro scene... The music.. the feel... it was unforgettable!

I never did complete the game until around 2007 when i older and wasn't as scared hahaha! But here is my review, the story is by far THE best story i have ever seen, in any video game or film! The story grabbed me and didn't let go until i complete the game! It made me cry, scream and cheer! And the music! to this day one of my favorite pieces of music is the "Theme of Laura" from Silent Hill 2.

*Anyone still reading this?*

I have pretty much said how i feel about Silent Hill 2, so i don't need to touch on that again! But now on to another favorite of mine! Silent Hill Shattered Memories for the Nintendo Wii. My mother being a Massive fan of the Silent Hill film got me this game the day it came on, and even watched me play it! (Bless her <3) Now the thing i like about this game, is how they prevent you from using and sort of weapons, this makes the fear level go from 100, to over 9000! The amount of times i have screamed because i am running from from monsters that CHANGE! due to how i play, for those of you who don't know, this game has an amazing physiologic system! Depending on how you move the Wii remote, where you look with your eyes, and even walk, the game changes to make the game more scary bested on how your brain has been reacting to the previous situations! SO the monsters, level design and personality of other characters change based on this, so its built around you! I have never had such a experience in a video game before, and i still haven't!

So, im going to shut up now, i could keep talking for hours talking about this game series, but this is a "brief" talk about my thought on this series!

Thank you for reading :)

There's two for the PS3 actually. Silent Hill Homecoming (Not officially called Silent Hill 5 but it is what it is) and then there was the one that came out just recently Silent Hill Downpour. I haven't played either so I can't say anything about them but they are both high on my list of games to get.

---

As for myself I am definitely a fan. I've played and beaten Silent Hill 1 and Shattered Memories. I like both equally but for different reasons. SH because it's gameplay is awesome and I'd compare how amazing it's gameplay is to Eternal Darkness. SM has an amazing story, partially because it's a little personalized based on your answers (depending on if you dicked around with the answers or answered truthfully) though it's gameplay isn't as good I still love the panic it induces because of having to constantly run. I wish the framerate didn't drop when you went through doors though, that was weird to say the least. Kinda messed up my direction for a few seconds each time.

I also watched SH2 on Youtube and wanna get SH2-4 for my PS2 as well as Homecoming and Downpour.

Well, a new Silent Hill game came out for the PS3 and X360, it's called Silent Hill Downpour.

I recommend you to start from the first game though, Silent Hill for PSX, you can buy it on PSN if you have internet connection with your PS3.

Then go with the PS2 ones, the HD collection (includes Silent Hill 2 3 and 4) is for PS3 and X360 but i don't recommend you to play the HD collection, play them on PC (they look exactly the same as HD collection, and as they are pretty old games you will have no problem running them i suppose). Origins is for PS2 only i think, so if you don't have a PS2 then you might have problems with that one, i recommend you to play it to get what happened in SH1.

Optionally you can play Shattered Memories, it's kind of boring and it's just a bad remake of Silent Hill 1.

I never played Homecoming so i can't tell you about this one, you should play it after you finished all the previous games, but that's just what i would do.

And then Downpour, well, i don't really wanna play it, it's up to you if you want to play it.

Hope this was useful to introduce you to one of the best series in gaming history.

Oh I forgot to mention the SH movie which was fantastic. I love that and can't wait for the second movie.

I thought the HD Collection only had SH2 and 3 on it. For whatever reason SH4 was never put on it as far as I know, but am I wrong?

I think you are correct, because i think SH4 already had very good graphics. Still, the PC version has higher graphics than the PS2 version.

Graphics or not SH4 was on the PS2 and isn't the point of an HD release not primarily to try to update the graphics but to rerelease games that people may have missed? (Not that anyone would have missed Silent Hill considering it's popularity unless you were like me who only got a PS2 like two or three years ago)

Still, I wanna get it on PS2 since playing it on PC would feel weird unless I used a controller and I have no idea how to do that. I know the PS3 controller can be used to play games on PC but I dunno how that works exactly.

Hm, you do have a point actually, didn't think of that. When i see an HD collection or release of a game i only think is improved graphics.

Do you know if the HD Collection has any bugs in it? I might just go for the HD Collection regardless if the only things wrong with it are washy graphics and the fog not being as thick as it should but if there's anything else I'll probably just try to hunt down decent PS2 copies.

No idea about the bugs in HD collection. Like i said before, play them on PC, they don't require too much and the graphics are even better than the HD collection ones, and not buggy. You can still play them on PS2 though, it's up to you.

I'm mostly looking for easiest to find to play as quickly as possible. I don't even have a PC to play them on, the one I use now is my mom's and I can't download anything on here so until I get a new computer, which could be a while even if I had a job, I can't play PC games period. HD Collection would likely be quickest but no SH4 but on the other hand PS2 is where they were originally meant to be played but they could be harder to find, especially finding all of them.

Go get the HD collection then, i understand that SH2-3-4 will be hard to find for PS2. Don't worry about SH4, there's not even a connection with the SH story, just a bit with SH2, but then nothing more. You can buy it later.

Connection with story doesn't change the fact that it's a part of the series and that alone means I must play it. :P

Wasn't exactly implying that you shouldn't play it, i was saying that you can get it later because is not as important as SH2 and SH3.

SH4 is a great game actually, but not as good as the previous ones IMO.
