Battle Mane Applejack (final + WIP)

Recommended Posts

So, for those who have previously read I was working on Applejack while getting distracted with little Filly Applejacks. Here it is.

Kind of cut of my progress and finished it. The time I spent on this has became so fragmented because of other projects, weird week, deadlines, that sort of things.

And it became just extremely experimental I think, or at least it feels like it. So I didn't have a clear idea of what I was trying to do for the final piece.

Was afraid to end up with a too long project involving just one piece.

(I'm such a quickie concept artist type :P just trying to get my ideas out first and foremost)

Anyhow, I did plan on sharing the different steps from the process with you all. Hope you enjoy and feel free to ask or say or anything :)

Because at the moment... I'm not sure how it actually turned out

Oh my God.

This is incredible. Ponies with armor are already cool, but this is just on a whole 'nother level.

I really like the style and colors that you chose, they compliment AJ very well.

Thank you :D

The WIPs don't really show it, but I was so afraid I couldn't get the right colour, I changed it so much

But I eventually had to stop myself changing it  So it's nice to hear I made a good choice there

I can't stand to find anything wrong with the armor, it has a lot of detail shown; I like the footwear the most here.

Her tail looks a bit out of focus though.

I really liked doing something different with the hooves, thanks :D

 And I think I slightly overdid that on the tail. It was also the part that was least finished ... or well, the end of the tail

Me and my quick fixes

Thanks, I appreciate it :)

PS: General question to all: Thinking about making a collective art thread for my works, updating it as I go. Would probably be better?

Not sure why I didn't already though :P, I'll maybe kick it off with some WIP of what I'm working on now

Well if you make a collective art thread it would be easier to see all your art.

BUT

Potentially, harder for proper feedback on any of your art as well as mass dumping your pictures makes it harder to show off or introduce your art. I personally hate going through a collective art thread with dozens of pictures where the final word most people have is "good job" since what else could they say? Yeah, I wish I had some more critical feedback on some of my art I post here and have thought about doing a mass dump, but in the end I couldn't see how any type of advice or critiques could be shared through something like that.

Think of it also like this.

I usually look at peoples artwork to see how I could improve from seeing different styles and if any advice I could give from critical feed backs or possible mistakes could be pointed out. If I see too many images, I would rarely give anything since it's gosh darn time consuming to type out one for every single image. I'd rather just see an image, your Armored-Jack for an example, and look at it a bit critically and see how could improve my own work from it.

Personally I am currently doing up some armor images myself and although I don't think I'll use any of what you have here for a possible entry to them, the color scheme looks nice and I may implement that later on for future work. If I had seen many MANY images I would have probably leaned towards just looking at one image and leaving it at that unless I could actually find time to do others.

Of course in the end a person might just want to show off their work in general. I think going in smaller chunks might be better but in the end it's up to the owner of the work as it is.

Edit - Armored-Jack....crap, now I'm craving Jack in the Box.

Some very good points. Actually never really looked at it like that, made me realize some things.

If I'll be missing out on focus for individual pieces like that I'll probably stick to having them for individual projects rather than a collective work. (DeviantArt functions just fine for that as well)

I'd prefer a more critical view on my works. At least here on the forums, since it's easier to discuss than on DA.

Which is what forums are better at anyway :P

I think it's also easier to manage from both sides. I know how it feels to update a single thread with new stuff. It's hard to keep in organized. Let alone reading/looking through it all.

And it's great to hear my work is being of use as well, for what its worth. Makes me think about the chain of artists. As I get inspired by others, I do also hope I get to inspire others.

Anyhow, I'll probably keep it at single topics. Also considering when posting WIPs, that's already a bunch of images for 1 thread. Let alone if it were bunch of WIPs for different works.

And I'll probably not post single WIP images on DA as much, only reels/sheets like I did here with AJ.

Thanks for the input, I needed a different perspective, it changed my thoughts

Wow, I must say, your pony artwork is some of the most detailed I've seen, I love it! The colors are perfect, and the Armour is amazing, brilliant work :)

Thanks! I keep hearing things about details :D And I'm always seeking to explore colours, so I'm always glad to hear it turns out ok :P

I hope it's a result of looking for my own style as well.
