Ok, is Gangnam style the next/newest fad?

If I have to give my honest opinion about this...

I (unironically) love this video.

It's simply a spectacle to behold. A stream of ridiculous, unrelated situations tied together by a dance which, by the end, has inspired people of all walks of life to stop taking everything so seriously and pretend to ride a horse to a K-pop tune for a change. It's produced well, doesn't pretend to be serious in the slightest, and many of the performers have real talent. Above all, it's incredibly entertaining, but unlike a lot of entertaining music videos, isn't annoying or repetitive unless viewed extensively.

It's a song made just for fun, and it does that job definitively right.

That's really all there is to say on the matter.

Considering that just today when I was on my way back to my hotel room with my brother, I did the dance and an entire bus of people burst out laughing, some also doing the dance...

Yeah I'd say it's pretty big.

Internet memes and fads spring up all the time, for sometimes the weirdest of reasons. It really just comes down to what people take and run with. Yeah, I'd call Gangnam Style an internet fad at this point.

I can still remember that time when... *puts on hipster glasses* ...I saw the video of open condom Gangnam Style when it only had aroud 550,000 views.

But yeah, It's surelly a new fad. It even made the news in my country (which is really odd and rare to see).

Never have I seen so many gif and reaction pic worthy moments in a single four minute video as I have seen in Gangnam style.

Seriously, it's meme gold.

Coincidentally enough I was doing some shopping today. I was about to go into a shop called lidl and buy some coffee when Gangnam Style played on my phone via shuffle so I thought 'why the fuck not?'

I pulled out the headphones, cranked the volume up to maximum, strolled on into the store and Gangnam Style'd my way through it.

And yes, I did pick up the coffee and Gangnam Style my way to the counter to pay for it.

Oh the faces the people in there made ^_^

One person obviously understood what I was doing though, because he joined in! Best moment of day.

In my opinion, I believe that this song is becoming nothing more than the newest fad/craze to anyone who enjoys this kind of music. I have nothing against it, just don't like it. Pop isn't as good as back in the 80s and 90s, I still have some of them and they all consist heart and soul. Today, it's just partying.

Looking at how popular it have become in such little time, I would definitely say that Gangnam style is the newest fad. I think that 400 million views on YouTube in less than 3 months speaks for itself.

When I first saw gangnam style it had some 45 million views. I thought it had 450 so I said so to my friend. He was like NO WAY! Now it almost has 450 million views in just a few months. Amazing

I automatically dislike any viral material that gets parodied so many times to the point that it's lost it's luster and original intentions.

Gangnam Style's original music video's meanings makes utterly no sense in the eyes of Western audiences, because the point of the video was to criticize the "posers" who claim to be of the South Korean province of "Gangnam", known to be a "hip" and "party-like" region. It was a parody video targeted specifically for South Korean audiences. All the outside fame the video is being known for is simply because of the odd dance PSY does and some of the lyrics like "heeeeeeyyyyyy sexy laadddyyyyy".

Because of those reasons, every freaking celebrity, band, act, and other mediums has to satirize this video to be with the "in-crowd" and to show that they can be goofy too, without realizing that they are basically doing nothing but rehashing material and not being creative in the least. Gangnam Style shouldn't have been this popular, but thanks to a few powerful people, it has all this un-deserved fame.

Same deal with Call Me Maybe. I have no idea why that specific song has sooooo many renditions and parodies, but it does, and now everytime I actually hear the original Carly Rae Jepsen version, I just want to shoot my speakers out. It had a catchy beat, and it was a harmless song, but thanks to EVERYBODY basically milking the shit out of it, it just gets annoying after a while.
