Welcome to the Challenge Run Thread! Use this thread to chronicle your challenge run exploits, describe past challenge runs you do or dare suggest challenge runs to other people who might like to do them!

Remember that even though they are called "Challenge Runs" not everyone does them purely to challenge themselves. Challenge Runs can just be unique ways of playing to spice up the experience so even if it's not particularly hard let's not get on each other's cases about it.

NO ELITISM! No one is better than anyone else because they can do challenge runs others can't or don't feel like they can do. This topic is for flaunting what you got, not putting down others.

I'll start out by telling of a challenge mode I have personally done myself and invented. (Though technically anyone could have thought it up so I didn't actually "invent" it, I just mean I thought of it on my own)

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow - Julius Mode

-No attacking enemies, only bosses (since you obviously have to kill a boss to proceed lol)**

-You must kill all bosses, including the optional boss "Legion"

-No save points, even for healing. All healing must be done via boss hearts

**Accidental deaths are okay, killing an enemy by accidentally high jumping into them does not affect the challenge

This run is pretty darn fun and since Julius himself is broken as all hell in AoS it's not particularly difficult either. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow.

Pikmin 2 Haaard Maaaaaaaaaaode:

No purples in combat, or sprays. Haven't attempted it, but I'd assume it's rather hard.

Kid Icarus Difficulty Uprising:

(Do we have to make up a name for it?)

No health items besides the mandatory ones.

Pokemon No Evolution Run:

Uh, no evolving dem pogeymonz.

Runs I have attempted:

Pokemon No Evolution run

Metroid Zero Mission Ten Percent Run

Pokemon Nuzlocke Run

Ocarina of Time 3 Heart Run

Runs I have Completed:

Metroid Zero MIssion Ten Percent Run

Objection! Hold it! Take that! Gotcha! Eureka!

I like video games and anime.

Naw, titles aren't required though if it's a popular run like the Nuzlocke Run then it's probably best to keep the name so people recognize it easier. I certainly didn't make a title for mine. If it looks like it though sorry about that. Julius Mode is an extra mode where you play as a different character than the main character of the game. (The Castlevania series has many modes like this across the games)

My most recent video game challenge run I attempted and succeeded at was beating Dead Space 2 on Impossible in one sitting with no saves.

It was rather easy, considering I memorized the entirety of the campaign...

Does the game have checkpoints or is it the type of game where you go back to where you saved? I've never played Dead Space so I dunno.

If you die on Impossible without saving, you start the game from the beginning.

Plus, even if I did save it, you only get three. Yes, they limit your saves on that difficulty as well.

Dayum. Without playing the game I can't say for sure but I might try that. It sounds almost as fun as Fallout New Vegas' Hardcore mode where you have to actually eat and sleep to survive.

I think the last Challenge run I've did was getting the "Monument to all your sins" achievmnet via Halo:Reach. Where you beat the Entire campaign of Halo: Reach on legendary (hardest) difficulty, playing solo. It took me about a week, but a REALLY hard challenge run would be the same thing, but with all the skulls on :o ! Exluding Blind skull, that'd be a bit unfair to me.

I beat Hardcore mode in about 6 hours. The storyline anyway, was really easy.

I curse my old achievement hunting ways for wasting my life...

Tales of Vesperia, do the Labyrinth of Memories on Unknown mode. basically, you fight all the bosses in the game, except they are 10x harder (not including the unknown mode) and the last boss of the labyrinth (which isnt the true last boss of the game, its Kratos from ToS) is the hardest boss in the game. i tried this, and it took me weeks to beat.

Mr. Perfect on Megaman 9. Utter failure.

I did manage to 100% Super Meat Boy, though.

Other runs I've done include three heart challenges on LTTP and OoT, Max solo's on Shining Force, and a six hour completion time of Jet Set Radio Future. Not sure if the last one matters that much, but that was the quickest I could get.

Pikmin 2 Haaard Maaaaaaaaaaode:

Pikmin 2 hard mode is CAKE when compared to Pikmin 1 speed run... that's hell, you have to go through the game at least 2 or 3 times before you can even attempt it. You have to beat it in the minimum days possible, and it's hard enough to beat within the time limit.

I haven't even beaten Megaman 9 and I could never do that. I do pretty well in Megaman X but that game is so much easier to control than the older Megaman games.

I started a Twilight Princess 3 Heart Challenge once but totally forgot about it. Didn't even get to the second dungeon. lol

  • 1 year later...

I am currently attempting the Pokemon Nuzlocke Challenge on Fire Red, which will be streamed on my Twitch.tv channel.  I will actually be continuing today at 3:45 pm CST.

Currently, these clauses are in effect: The shiny clause and the duplicate clause.
