IF the writers do a shipping...which would be first?

This is something that just came up to me when talking about Spike and Rarity, my fave platonic couple so to speak (I WISH they could be together...cannot only because of age, FUDGE!). However, IF the writers where to create a couple, make a shipping canon, drives me to three questions. One, which would be first that they would use? What could be possible according to known circumstances? And what would you like to see that WOULDN'T break such circumstances?

I am the 1%.. I'm pretty indifferent when it comes to shippings besides two of them..I honestly don't see any shipping happening whatsoever. But to answer you

Technically, they kind of already have. Fancy Pants and whatever his odd looking consort is called... The Cakes (As shipping stands for "Relationshipping", a marriage does count), and any couple mentioned in Hearts and Hooves day.

 

Let's face it, shipping is in the weird, screwed up state it is because this fandom was birthed from bored 4channers. They'd ship anything (Even adultxchild or siblingxsibling, and yes, I've unfortunately read both). Now, generally, the ideas spat out the minds of 4channers are not likely to be accepted by a company aiming a show towards 8-12 year olds (Rare exceptions, such as Derpy, have existed).

 

Generally, almost all fanon ships (The overwhelming majority of which are slash (meaning they were written by terrible writers)) would definitively cause an outrage. Why? Because this isn't Disney. People have some sense of sanity and standards in Hasbro. It doesn't benefit them to release an episode that, I will very bluntly say, would be nothing more than masturbation fuel.

It is unlike they will. A few fans pissed about their OTP not being canon is a fine trade-off to avoid an absolute media hellfire. Fanon turned canon relationships would implicate bronies as the ones who pressured Hasbro, and then we would never hear the end of the media having a very easy way to say they have CONFIRMATION that bronies are sexual deviants. Yeah, both bronies and Hasbro suffer on that one.

In my wildest dreams, the first shipping pair that would become canon would be Derpy and the Dr.!!! And when I think about it, it really wouldn't take that much of an effort to make it canon; they could just be shown together in the background at a party, or in the park, or something. Yeah it's true (and you're also right with the other relationships, totally forget about it, but i guess that's what happens when shipping gets crossed in the midst (sigh) ). There's a reason why Mr. Thiessen is always making sure to say something along the ways of "We are NOT being influenced by the bronies", because they still have their own ideas, and most of our ideas, wouldn't go through with a show with the intention of MLP: FIM. I do however you are a bit too hard on shipping. It comes out of the "What if" situations that comes through our minds, whether it WOULD make sense, but enver possible, an actual "it could happen", or just a crack pairing. Shipping has been around FURTHER than 4chan, I assure you. Even in the weird state it might have been. The writers may read what we do, but so long as they follow their own ideas, it should be fine, even though Derpy somehow got through. Plus, like you said, it wouldn't be the best idea to do. Although, I think saying "masturbation fuel" is a bit too much, exaggerating or not.

It isn't that it's bad, but think about this. How do you think they would make it would it being too obvious, and how would they make it so that it makes sense? Making a whole plan that could easily deviate from the original would be too much work, and to make the other to things be there, even more.

Right now, the show is for the family. After the chapters with Discord, crazy Twilight, crazy Pinkie, and badass Fluttershy for example, it's for family. But fanservicing could make the story not make sense at all (especially with shippings), and that's bad. Derpy got lucky because it did make sense, and I congratulate the writers for making it so.
