gaming Your thoughts on emulation

Okay, let me sum up a few points on emulation.

1. It is LEGAL if you have the original game you are getting a ROM/ISO for, and you have a legal copy. However, you have to dump the BIOS from your system. Some systems don't even need a BIOS.

2. Some games, like ROM Hacks, cannot be played on a normal system without serious effort or illegal modification. A good example would be Pony Fantasy VI, or homebrew games.

3. If you have stuff like NES or SNES or such as the system you are emulating, the perfomance is fine. Even PS1 games run without a hitch. Once you hit PS2, you are bogging down your computer.

4. It is perfect for if you have a broken disc, a lost disc, or a broken cartridge.

5. Sometimes, the controls are actually EASIER.

I don't think it's wrong, I used to use them all the time for N64 games. It really brings back memories. Those games aren't available anymore so I think it's fine if the game is off the market.

Emulation is good.

I pretty much emulate old school games like Silent Hill or Ocarina of Time, but i also emulate PS2 games (since mine has broke).

I have a XBOX360 controller for PC and i can emulate and play a lot of things with a lot of comfort.

With a good PC you can emulate your favorite games with no problem and making them look better than in your console, that's why i like emulators.

There's this thing about media law I just don't get...

Yeah, piracy is a really bad thing and all... But really, what better way to get your song heard than to have people listen to it?

Whatever happened to "album signings" "Promotional T-Shirts" or "Limited Case designs?" I'd be willing to bet if someone would just publish a good, catchy, song for free (as in, a free download link) and they got really popular, they could make an absolute killing when it comes to promotional swag. Not only that, but the "illegal" t-shirt designs people make will only get the word out about this new artist. To me, all this crap about piracy is just an excuse to slow the "fame-train." But I'm still awaiting the day that someone plays this card right, and uses this illegality to their advantage.

"How about you download this song illegally?" with a donate button off the the side? :P

But what do I know? I'm just a stupid kid.

I use emulators all the time as its far easier to emulate consoles from a decade ago or more as it is trying to find Road Rash 2 on the new consoles. It looks a lot better too. Then again everything looks better because you're not using old circuitry and RF switches. The colors in Sonic 2 are just unbelievable. The only way to match it as far as I know is to hardware hack a genesis for component output. Of course, no emulator has 100% compatibility with all games and there can be some glitches (See: Resident Evil 3), but for me, its worked out quite well so far.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?
