I've only played Pokemon yellow many moons ago. If I were to try some of the other games, I would have to either download emulators and roms, or buy a nintendo handheld.

More than likely. I usually only play a game once. Unless I just really enjoy the hell out of it or it has very high re-playability.

Sure, the core of the game is the same.... but that is the same as many other series of games too. It's the details, the story, that changes.
