Given how they usually design space delivery systems, it would have to be a catapult that fires a smaller catapult, that fires an even smaller catapult that actually fires the payload....

I was about to make a comment about how the launched object would just float, but then I remembered rockets...

(I guess without little anything to really boost the object after a while it wouldn’t work anyways, right?)

Not sure about catapults  . I just know you either have not enough energy to orbit Earth because drag, have enough energy to orbit the earth, or have enough energy to escape. Each path is a conic  . Elliptical, parabolic, hyperbolic, yaddayaddayadda.
