How dark do you think this show has got so far, and can or will get?

Basically, so far in the series, what point was the darkest the show has got? I would have to say Canterlot Wedding was the darkest episode/s so far. But tell me, what has been the darkest point in this show so far in your opinion?

Second question, how dark do you think this show CAN possibly get, especially considering the show context and target demographic. I've noticed that quite a lot of cartoons recently have not shyed away from being dark, and considering how the fanbase has helped shape this show, I think it possible there will be more dark turns in the future.

What do you think?

I think it's gotten pretty dark for a kids show. I mean showing Twilight getting brought down to what we are to assume is something bad in "A Canterlot Wedding Part 1" and cutting it off there is sorta dark for kids. I think it might get a whole lot darker come season 3, because the (spoilers)

Season 3 pictures show a very drab and dark setting and tone.

Someone has to die. It has to happen. Otherwise, it's all just going to be sunny days with an occasional rainstorm.

No... just no... Killing off someone would be pretty dumb on the writers part. It would probably be the end of the series because why would those people want to watch it if one of there favorite characters got killed. Edited by Dusty Soul

Lol Courage the Cowardly Dog XD

I don't think this show can get that dark.

I don't want it to get dark, I want it to stay happy, fun, and all that other coloerful stuff.

That's the main reason why I watch it.

How happy and colorful the show is.

Canterlot Wedding wasn't all that dark, it was epic.

They wanted MLP to be more adventurous.

It was.

Unless they actively repurpose the show I do not see it getting much darker than it already is. And really it isnt that dark right now. It would actually be kind of interesting if after its G4 hub run they decided to toonami it or something and actively go for an older audience instead of passively going for the older audience.

How dark it is? in my opinion it should be TV-Y7.

How dark can it get? TV-Y7 is the Darkest it can get without Lawsuits. Maybe even TV-G. (which means no blood or not much more violence if anyone wanted that...)

How dark WILL it get? Not much darker. i doubt Hasbro is gonna accept it. The shows content probably will get a bit darker but its can't go anywhere far. The show is pushing the limits of the TV-Y rating and Hasbro aint gonna change it.

How shows like this are rated depends of the content of the show, the humor, and the target audience. And seeing some episodes the show should get a TV-Y7 rating. But Hasbro want this show to make money which means getting little girls to watch it. So having a TV-Y rating will get parents to get there kid to watch it. So the limits of TV-Y is how far the show can go. And trust me... they are gonna push it as hard as they can heheh.

It can get darker. Invader Zim was dark. MLP is still bright sunshine and rainbows.

WE MUST GO DARKER!

Lol, Invader Zim is something that can never be replicated with it's awesomeness. It had such 90's humor that I couldn't stop laughing at.

It hasn't gotten too dark and it probably won't, you all have to remember, this is on the HUB which is a children's network.

I think for being a children's show it's gotten really dark and it can only get darker. The HUB is a children's network indeed, but I don't think that will stop them from being as dark as possible.

Probably the only reason people find it dark is because the writers are now basing the show's entertainment and content on the bronies and not the children.

Well I can sort of agree with that. The writers I think try to make it appeal to us, but also try to make it good for kids.

Yea, I do like how they are relating to bronies a bit more, it really adds spice to the show. I wish they would just change the intro though, It's too cheesy and childish for me.

Yeah I saw some pics of season 3 it looks like a nuclear fallout almost. But I don't think it would get too dark, but I wouldn't mind if it did, I have plenty of other things to keep me happy.

Ahh, talking about

Rarity's Carousel Boutique and Sweet Apple Acres? Yeah, that looked a bit dark and dead.

Which is why I could see it ending up on toonami. I mean look at it -- this could bring a lot of new people in -- both to this show and to toonami itself. If they ever were to stop it on the hub, getting it moved and continued would be a very viable letter writing campaign.

I don't know much about Toonami, but if it allows for more non-child safe stuff, then I don't know... I'm content with the show the way it is.

Meh. I like the other songs in the show a lot better.

the darkest point of the show in my opinion was at the Royal Wedding

Twilight looking as though she got banished to hell got my heart ticking a little faster than usual

I REALLY did not expect that

then again, this has been said like,

a million times before so this is just a reiteration on my part :P

Well, a pony did die. There was a funeral in the background during Hearts and Hooves day.

Personally, I think the show has just the right amount of darkness. Ponies going crazy, creepy creatures, and a few spooky moments balance the sunshine quite well in my opinion. It might get a little darker, but probably not much. And a pony from the main cast should not die - that would be too sad :(

If I wanted dark, I'll watch the Transformers TV show and wait for a plot twist where a character dies (but he didn't really!).

I've looked into the colour intonation of this show on several occasions, and the only things that even use solid black are their pupils, and scenes that are dark for the sake of a throw-away joke (like the party reveal of Pinkie Pie in the first episode.) Which is to say, how could this show be dark? They basically never even use black!

It's aimed at little girls, and that premise is backed up by promises of growth made by Hasbro to investors. Just because bronies have become a reliable fan-base does not mean they will recreate any sort of grimdark fascination/fantasy.

The showmakers don't need to (and don't want to) explore complex issues that are oftentimes above the level of children, even if most children could (or even if some already have) experience things like death, divorce, and intimate relationships.

It deals with the inner-drama of children such as the opinions of other kids on the playground, the questions that arise between brothers and sisters, or getting a haircut.

It is stupid to suppose that it should intricate itself beyond that.

Though, if I had to state the darkest point in my opinion, it would be Pinkamena in Party of One. Seriously, that was just demented.

oh, & I forgot to mention that one too

the scene where here eyes went two different directions kinda gave me a bit of the chills

this you mean? Definitely creepy. Seriously, I can't think of any other episode that matches up with Party of One.
