How do you Draw?

I start with a ref pic because I cannot freehand well. I sketch using light wispy lines. After I finish the light sketch and check if everything is right. After, I take a thick black colored pencil and trace all of my lines. This adds highlight like in the pic below.

I then scan it on to my computer and color it using an art software, for me, it is GIMP. This is the result

I most likely won't be of much help here, seeing as I'm a pretty bad artist myself, but I'll give you some production pictures of a drawing I did for a MLPForums Member. Chantilly Angel, to be exact.

 

 

As you can see, I don't really start with guidelines. I just envision a rough picture in my head, then I just... Draw it. xD

 

 

Here, I added just a few more details. I made two versions, one with here eyes open, and one with her eyes closed.

 

 

I used Corel Paintshop Pro Photo XI to vector her. Here's the beginnings of it.

 

 

And there's my finished product.

 

I know this is a horrible example (it's too simplified), but I decided I'd share it anyway. I might make a timelapse sometime... Who knows?

Ok i will show you my steps of how i draw but im going to skip a few steps, by a few steps i meen a lot. so here we go.

 

stpes - 1,2,3

draw the body

then the eyes

then the earrings

 

 

 

steps - 4,5,6

draw the hair

then the horn

then the stars

 

 

 

step - 7

draw the wings

 

 

 

now the finl step

shading and cline up the drawing

How do I draw? Poorly! I have a tablet and I like MyPaint (haven't tried PaintTool SAI) but i don't get great results.

 

If I want to do something that looks nice, I do it in Inkscape or Illustrator and just tweak the heck out of it until it looks like how I want. I'm more of a technician than an artist but I know what looks good.

 

I envy you guys. This thread is very helpful, though! I'll definitely try out some of the techniques -- thanks for sharing!

I draw really horribly according to some people and really according to really nice people! (Yeah, yeah I know what you meant) Seriously though, I don't really have a specific style except what, The Brony Heart said, that always happens to me when I draw.

I just draw and see how it turns out.

right now my friend wants me to do his name in stylized letters like those from a poster for a band like As blood runs black or Thy Art is Murder. Here's an example

 

Right now its a Work in progress but its turning out fairly well. I'm gonna post my progress for now and show you. Update with the finished product later.

I'll probably scan it and photoshop it with different colors but for now it looks good.

 

Bonus points for figuring out what his name is.

It shouldn't be too hard, I tried to keep the design less dense than I usually do
