Vicke 3,189 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 Hey guys. I know that everyone is happy that there is a new big feature here with us and ofcourse, it might be a little spammy right now but i think we need to put some requirements on the people that got one or more blogs. Why? Because i have seen a few blog entries where there is no content or anything to discus. Its basically just ''Hi, how are you'' in it. Not only is it annoying to see such entries but it take away 1 spot from the front page for those who blog for real, those who love to do this. So, anyone agree with this? I might make a big fool out of myself but i'm just sharing my thoughts here ^^ 9 Signature made by Kyoshi
Fizz. 1,078 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 How about a maximum of two blogs a day, with a, say, 500 character minimum. It would keep blog spam down. That's really the only restriction I see worth it. If you need more than two blog posts a day, get off the computer for a while, or just merge blog posts. 5 http://alt="img-3411728-1-kQpW0ME.png">
Dusty Soul 2,611 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 (edited) I agree... I say a character limit of, like, 200 or 300 just to keep the spam down... So I definitely agree with your thoughts on this... I had those thoughts in my mind. 500 is a little to much in my opinion.200-300 sounds about right. And about the limit, i don't think there should be such a high requirement. Maybe 1 blog post every 2 hours sounds about right 1 Signature made by Kyoshi
Juggler 345 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 I agree with most what you said. However blogs are a forum that you can write whatever you wish in. You make the rules there and if you just want to type "pointless" things, then they can do that (from what I understand from reading the entry introducing the blogs). I think it would be hard to have some requirements. I cannot think of any right now... Do you have a suggestion on something? Killian Jones 2,655 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 The blog system has the express purpose of trying to move away some of the spam from the forums to the blogs, the point is to have a lot of the nonsense up there. However, you can choose to follow blogs you like and disable the hook on the side, it can help from get the spam out of the way on the main page.

Yeah, i know that. But i still don't agree with ''Do what you want because we need to get the spam of the threads'' Its a blog after all, funny or not, you should alteast TRY to do something that makes sense. If you are only going to make 1 or 2 sentences you might just as well make a status update! If you are only going to make 1 or 2 sentences you might just as well make a status update! Blogs are still extremely new, so I think the best course of action may be to wait a little while and see how things go. It may very well end up being the case that some sort of minimum could be beneficial.
Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 August 27, 2012 Share August 27, 2012 I think we should have a character minimum on it. @, Why attempt to move spam to a different part of the forum? Just get rid of it altogether. It would be a great feature if it wasn't being used for pure stupidity. Status updates and the Forum Lounge already give us a way to act silly without bothering too many. The blog feature should be for quality, not for mindless spamming 4 LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. Fees and penalties still apply. A more, "Today I was walking on the street and I saw someone with a pony hater shirt and I punched him in the face and ran away." type of threads, which are serious, sometimes longer than a status update. The blog system fills the gap of wanting to have such nonsense which doesn't really is very discussion worthy. Or even have ranting topics Blogs can be diverse, they can be higher quality. And it is up to the blog creator, people who make silly blogs will generally stop using them, and people who follow good blogs they think are worthwhile. Like Zoop said, baby steps, we are even before infancy, we will see things normalize within a couple of weeks.

But we're not saying to make blogs a lounge for sophisticated debates over a glass of red wine and a smoke, we mean to just create a restriction so the blogs that are interesting or at least worthy to be ready aren't overshadowed by the spammer who has to blog each little thing he does in a separate post. 1 http://alt="img-3411728-1-kQpW0ME.png">
Finesthour 7,287 August 28, 2012 Share August 28, 2012 Well, some of us make pretty long blogs :3 I'd like to say each one of my blogs are nice enough to not be spam. I post frequently in them, but they are each relevant in space, and are not just a simple one liner asking about how you are doing. I do not necessarily agree with this, a restriction sounds too pushy for the people who actually post relevant things ;-;
NavelColt 22,879 August 28, 2012 Share August 28, 2012 I wouldn't be opposed to a character minimum on blogs as well. Like what's been said, while their purpose is to bring away some of the random, off-topic spammy stuff that are more accustomed to a status update-type environment as opposed to forums, that doesn't mean we need super short blogs that practically are just the length of a very short status update. Arylett Charnoa 4,919 August 28, 2012 Share August 28, 2012 Think of it this way, guys: The primary focus of the forums is foruming. We force a character limit only on the forums because that's mainly what we expect people to put their focus, energy, and higher thought and quality. (Minus Cloudsdale, which is for just silly fun.) That's not to say that the purpose of blogs is just to be a spamfest. A blog can be about anything, anyone, and any length a person desires. Blogs give people a little more freedom to express nonspecific and off-topic thoughts. By instilling a character limit, we deprive them of that privilege for a feature that isn't even the primary focus. Blogs are there as a nifty little thing for fun and to divert the amount of more rambly and personal topics that won't venerate a lot of discussion. A blog can vary from being serious, to silly, to fun, to about daily life. Anything. I think people will enjoy that freedom. Whilst blogs aren't supposed to be spamfests or pits for low quality and such, the restrictions and standards for them are looser than for a forum post. It wouldn't be right to force people into an arbitrary limit for something that's intended to be just for expression. Thus far, it's too early in the game to even tell. Blogs have only been around for two days as of this post. And myself and the other mods have actually been pleasantly surprised by the quality thus far. Many blogs we've seen seem interesting, positive, amusing, or of a higher quality than we expected. So I don't think it's necessary now anyway. 4 Aether Velvet is the name of the OC in my avatar. FedoraMemes 582 August 29, 2012 Share August 29, 2012 I personally do not agree with this suggestion. The whole point of a blog is to write what you want to write. If you want to write a blog about gaming, then you can write a blog about gaming. If you want to write a blog about your day-to-day life, then you can. So if someone wants to write a blog entry saying 'hi' to everyone, then why should we stop them? The point of this blog system (from what the mods have told us) is to try and keep subjects that really don't involve much discussion, or could be considered spam, away from the main forum. The main forums are for discussion, the blogs are not. They are the users personal space, where they can write what they want, without harming anyone. I also think that the whole 'character limit in blogs' is pointless. Going back to what I said earlier in my post, the user can write whatever they want (so long as it remains within the forum rules, of course) and if they can write whatever they want, why should there be a restriction on how little they want to write? If they are trying to keep spammy topics out of the main forums, why should we have to be restricted on how much we want to write? If we were to have a character limit on blog posts, maybe we should have a character limit in Cloudsdale Colosseum. Just my opinion on the matter. 1 The Anime Thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/20661-the-anime-thread/page__hl__the%20anime%20thread
Bronium 512 August 29, 2012 Share August 29, 2012 From what I understand, blogs are meant to be topics that aren't quite topics and status updates that aren't quite status updates. Probably the bastard child of the two. From that perspective, blogs are more about the daily lives of a person or their soapbox. It's pretty much a large status update. So, I'd be pretty much against any restrictions on the whole blog things. Just my opinions. At most, we would need a 200 character limit a day thing, but that's it. But even then, like Zoop said, it's too early to decide. I'd say just wait for a few more weeks and see what's come of it. Yet from most blogs I've seen, the most entries that have been posted is about 15 (looking at you @, ) so I'm not too worried about spam and even then the ones that are regularly updated have been of fantastic quality. So I say there's no need to fret over it. This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree?
Bunches 81 August 29, 2012 Share August 29, 2012 i am just guessing... but i think so many people are using the blogs right now because it is a new feature. not everyone is this way, but some. after some time the novelty of it will begin to ware and i think we will see less and less people posting, aside from the dedicated bloggers.
