Den gave him a rare expresion; this one was go figure, "Sorry sir. I really did think that would work. Permission to engage? Maybe he'll summon another axe and I can earn the nickname 'axe-catcher." He waited patiently to go. Sapphire was going through her list of spells, and sighed. She thought about trying to soul-smudge with Nightfall, and then try to build walls like Den, but Den did it with his willpower, on himself. Would it work.

 

Maven was about ready to kill Den.

"Celestia moon it," Wits said, and he started to get angry. No time to waste then. He bolted out of his circle and drew upon the Rune Tar. His eyes went black, his teeth went sharp, and black tentacles burst out of his skin.

 

"LET'S DANCE," he said in a voice 3 octaves too low to be pony, then flung himself with magically propelled force at Karasu.

Sapphire decided right then was the perfect time to drop a huge brownie off to the left. One that smelled really strongly of peanut butter. Because Nightfall really liked peanut butter brownies. Then she began to chant and skip in a circle around the fighting ponies. Runes started popping up behind her.

Wits had actually used the rune tar, knowing exactly what it had done to Cherry Blossom. Jack sighed, "Well, Nightfall, it looks like Wits is the new dimwit."

 

Envy was exhausted. He had used up a lot of energy. He saw Wits out of the corner of his eyes, and wanted that power. He rolled away from Wits, when he stood up He looked like Wits instead of Nightfall. "HA HA, I've... Wait a second..." He inspected his body. "Why aren't I all black and tentacle like? How do you do that?"

Den looked at the Wits-Karasu battle. He figured that was akin to 'Permission to engage.' He circled around behind Envy, and charged in, aiming to flatten him. He hoped Wits could control himself, because the last time somepony had been infected with this substance, he'd been the one in charge of finding, hunting, and restraining her.

Wits slammed into him "Your power only applies to in-universe constructs, not being capable to adapt to interdimensional substances and beings, resulting in the substance within me being unable to be modified into an energy/food source for you continued efforts against us!" Say what you will about Wits End, but he never slacked on the terminology.

"Well," Jack commented, "It looks like he can control the Rune tar to some extent. good for him."

Say what you will about Wits End, but he never slacked on the terminology.

 

For an awkward moment, Envy just looked at Wits. "... WHAT THE HELL IS HE SAYING?" He cried confused. As he was distracted, Den slammed into his back, causing him to fall to the ground and land on his chest.

Wits started pounding away with hooves and tentacles, striking at him with all his force. "You mother bucker!" He shouted as loud as he could. "This city is not yours! YOU ARE GOING TO DIE!" He let lose a scream of rage and blasted him with magic power.

The amount of energy I can draw from the rune tar is directly related to the amount of willpower I possess. Assuming that I have strong enough willpower, the most I can use at any given time will very from 12-36 minutes...

"He says in fancy talk you made yourself weaker," Den says, pinning the now smaller pony against the ground. He punched him at the point where the horn meets the skull; he new from experience unicorns hated that. 6th grade, a bully had told him that his brother was a colt-sucker. That colt got away with a black eye, and a swollen horn area.

He looked at the others. Maven looked pissed, and Cherry and Patches still weren't in the battle. Three were in the battle. Nightfall got off his knees. His power level was low, but he decided to go in anyway. With Wits distracting K, he might even be able to get a good blow on him.

"Maven, a new song. One about power, courage, and a big bloody battle, if you don't mind."

He grabbed Demon Blitz off of his back and slowly walked towards the battle, holding his sword by his side.

Envy felt the tentacles strike his back and the pain in his horn, yet his eyes didn't show confidence or pain, or even life. It was as if there was no soul in his body at all. He slowly turned back onto his old body.

 

I'm not ready for this!

 

HA HA, What a laugh! But We've had our fun now. Time to let the real fighter take over.

Wits took a deep breath and backed away from the heavily battered Envy. The tentacles receeded back into him and fell back into the group, taking a defensive stance once more. "Are you ready to surrender, yet? This is only going to get worse from here." He once again took out his rifle and aimed at Karasu.

Den punched him one more time and jumped off. He felt like his emotions were draining out of him. It was weird.

 

Maven nodded, "You got it Nighty," she said, putting the flute to her lips and playing.

 

Sapphire closed the circle and finished the chant. The runes began to glow and a large, domed wal trapped them inside.

Karasu stood up again. This time he had a familiar gun barrel on his right front hoof. "Why do the other six wear this shit?" he asked himself as he ripped his black coat off and tossed it aside. "That was some real funny shit." He said in a deep voice. "Priceless really. The way you kicked Envy's scrawny ass!" He clenched his chest and let out a deep laugh, "You have no idea how much I hated that guy! He just loved to hear himself talk, but he doesn't have shit to back it up!" He laughed a little more, then abruptly stopped. "Look what you did! You went and put me in a good mood. I fight better when I'm pissed. AND WILL YOU STOP THAT DAMN MUSIC!"

Den stepped infront of him, "Hello Rage. You seem a bit stressed today," he said. He definately recognized this one.

 

Maven continued to play; she took her orders from Nightfall.

 

Sapphire wondered if she should become a sword; instead she made a rune-sheild around Maven, with little slots so that sound could better get through.

"Out of my way, shit!" Rage ordered, "I don't care what you think you can do. My special technique will take care of that!" He stepped back and started to flex his muscles and grunt.

 

Patches scoffed, "His special technique is flexing?"

 

Hundreds of beads of sweat began to trickle down his neck and cover his body.

 

"Okay... Gross."

Den stiffled a laugh, "Ehem, Patches, I think it would be a good idea for you to get behind Sapphire." He stood his ground, watching Rage, "When did I say I have abilities? You're just trying to work yourself up in a tissy. And you're also trying to make me see dispair..." he looked at him, "Not feeling anything... Maybe you should tryto puff out your chest more, maybe lower your head. Then you'll look like just about every other bully I've seen." He stood in a position that only those who know how to take pain know, and stared at Rage coldly.

Jack's eyes widened. "Den, step back! He's mixing his energy with his sweat!"

 

"To late!" Rage said. The sweat on his body heated up and became a steam that enveloped all nine of them. It was completely impossible to see anything in the mist. In addition to that, he had laced so much of his energy with the sweat that it was impossible for Jack to sense where he was. He spoke again and his voice sounded like it was coming from all around them. "Forbidden Technique: White Smog!"

Den's eyes turned blue, but that wasn't what he wanted. He closed his eyes, and concentrated. His ears twitched and his brain began to 'see' with his ears. He took a breath, and openned his eyes, "Secret Technique; Heart Whisper," he whispered. Where did I learn that? Is this another form of ancestral memory? He dodge a swipe at his head.

"Oof!" Jack was smacked on the back of his head and fell to the ground with a thud. "Damn it... Cheap shot."

 

"Ha ha!" Rage's voice echoed from all directions. "Different ponies, same result. You hero types are like one big punching bag for me! It's not much of a challenge. I like that!"

Blue eyes appeared behind Rage; his banter made it that much easier Den to 'see' him with his earsight. He brought his hoof down quickly, going for a blow at the base of Rage's neck, saying, "I hate bullies. Especially you talkers, who think that the sky is yours and the dirt is something you shove down another pony's throat.

Rage was surprised that he had managed to find him. He thought nobody could see through his White Smog technique. Den's blow connected with the back of his neck. He grunted in pain. After taking a few moments to orient himself, he pointed his hoof-gun behind him where he assumed Den would be and fired a few quick shots.

Wits fired off a shot of magic. The purpose was more to distract then to harm, because Den seemed to have the situation under control. He also cast a more generalized to try and help his partners out, healing them up and giving them what energy they could. This was going to be a long battle, and it was best to keep everything under control.

(InfinityWhale, there's a white smog that makes it impossible to see anything or sense energy. It also is creating an echo, so you can't pinpoint sound. How do you expect to hit him?)

 

Wit's blast fired in completely the wrong direction. Rage laughed a little, then tried to violently shake Den off of his back. He was making a lot of noise, but it was almost impossible to tell where it was coming from.

Wits frowned. He had been distracted but he was hoping for luck... that wouldn't work out quite perfect.

 

He aimed, focusing on Karasu's aura, and then aiming for them. Again, it was a weak shout hoping to, well, enrage, as opposed to genuinely hurt. He also made sure Den wouldn't be hit.
