gaming What a find, what a find!

We were cleaning out our garage last night and I found a treasure trove...games. NES games...that I thought were gotten rid of YEARS ago.

What was in the box:

Two controllers. One doesn't seem to work at all while the other has a huge section missing in the cord and is showing all the wires for like an inch but it works so that's what matters. (Though it still takes hard presses to get anything to work, I need to get new controllers at the very least, ones where I don't have to kill the controller to use it. lol)

And six games.

Karnov

Top Gun

Super Mario Bros + Duck Hunt

Wrestlemania

And the two I missed the most...

Castlevania. Yes, the original.

Dragon Warrior II. The game I couldn't get past the first room of because I couldn't read when I was 4 when we last had our NES up and running.

I played Karnov for about three levels, Castlevania up to Medusa and Dragon Warrior II for about twenty minutes last night. Only problem was, I couldn't figure out how to save so I lost 20 minutes of work. I know it can still save since it was holding the save files from back when I was a kid, I just couldn't figure out how to save. lol

In the words of Happosai: WHAT A HAUL!!!

Ooh, epic.

And don't worry. The general rectangular NES controllers are cheap, especially if you don't care if the plastic is yellowed. I myself probably have more than ten of the things, so they can't be scarce, right? ;)

And in Dragon Quest II, you save by talking to kings/similar people in towns/castles. :P

That's awesome! I feel really bad for this... I um... I have never played Castlevania ever D: I have wanted to play it though since I've heard much about it and seen vids.

Ah, that explains a lot. In later games in the series you save by going into a church but I saw no churches around. Guess I'll know what to do next time.

It's okay, there's a lot of gamers who've missed out on Castlevania. It's been a part of my childhood and my entire life so it baffles me that there are so many who haven't played even one game in the series.

A nice haul indeed. I used to like Karnov because of all the different items you could collect. We used to think Wrestlemania was the coolest game EVER when we first played it. Those were the days... :)

I had almost completely forgotten anything about Karnov over the years and my reasoning abilities when I was 4 weren't up to notch so I didn't understand how to use items and such. Playing it again now I really miss this stuff. I have Skate or Die too and I've had that for years, I thought it was the only NES game I had left. xD

I know that feel, except I went looking for mine when I found them. Found my Game Boy and the NES with all of my controllers, zappers and my extensive library of games, some great and some horrible. Dug up the SNES and all related paraphernalia too. And that feeling I got when I heard the 8-bit music and sound effects blaring from the TV when I got the NES running... I felt like I was five years-old again.

Sorry guys, I'm a Sega Kid. My first system was a Master System, then a Genesis. I had a Super Nintendo, but only had 2 games, Mario Paint and Super Mario World, which was is one of the greatest games ever (But still can't beat Sonic 2 in my book, lol)

I do want to pick up an Original Nintendo though, maybe a Famicom if I'm lucky enough. That is a pretty awesome haul though!

Controllers aren't hard to find, and you can pick them up pretty cheap. For the lulz though, open the bad ones up and see if its just the rubber that makes contact with the circuit board. That's what it was on my Genesis controller.

I'm not loyal to any one company, this is just what we had when I was a kid. We skipped the whole SNES/Genesis era and then picked up a N64 and PS1 later (that's when my gaming career really started)

Of course, I have since gotten and/or played a lot of games from the era that I missed. I have over 50 Genesis games thanks to various collections and such.

I'm loyal to games, not consoles.

Also Sonic > Mario. Always.

That's not a bad idea, if I can possibly fix the bad controller just by opening it up and seeing if anything's out of place... Not like there's a warranty to worry about.
