A question for Rainbow Dash [S3 spoilers]

In the Crystal Pony song, Rainbow Dash said something that confused me: "they liked jousting". And I have an objection to that statement:

Would it be the equivalent of two humans running at eachother full speed trying to hit eachother with sticks?

 

How would they hold the lance?

i think it would work like this

to ponies charge at each other the goal is to knock the other off balance so that they fall. since its to ponies and not people i think there would be more dodging involved but that's my opinion

Since when did MLP start to make sense? Talking, colored ponies, unicorns, and pegasi walking around, talking, drinking cider, building houses, and all that stuff. Total realism, right there.

 

I would guess they weren't pointed spears. That, and they would probably just be playing chicken, since ponies riding other ponies would just be ridiculous.
