What is Equestia?

I always considered it a country, as in "The magical land of Equestria" as compared to "magical world". The Changelings, for example, probably live in a separate land with its own sections (like the Everfree Forest in EQ)

Well the way they say "world of Equestria" makes me think of Corneria from Star Fox which is both the planet and the capital city. Maybe Equestria is both the planet they live on as well as the Continent they're on.

Wiki says it's a kingdom... Interpret that the way you want. :L

Though I'm still not entirely sure. I personally like to think that it's a world. But from what we've seen in the show so far, it seems to be no bigger than a continent.

Part of me remembers once seeing a MLP:FIM world map that labeled Equestria as only a kingdom with a few other kingdoms outside of it, like the Griffin homeland. Though part of me also wants to say it actually is the name of the world they live on too.

Wasn't Azeroth both a land and a world in Warcraft, or am I going senile? D:

Looking over the map, I'd have to go with Equestria being a continent more than a country. Pretty much fits the criteria for one: one giant landmass with varies different cities, countries, regions and locations surrounded on all sides by water. Plus the "Yonder to Griffons" note implies a whole other region or kingdom separate from the mainland.

i think its a country, which gets me thinking what else its out there and i'm wondering if the poinies think the world is flat kind of thing and by that i mean that that's the ponies think that equestria is all that is rather then they think the world is rely flat

also back to the what else is out there, im gonna bring out my theory of a Alicorn kingdom as well as a griffon one

Actually, upon a quick search, there was already a topic here that basically answered the question. :P

It seems that Equestria is simply a country, as a quote from the show says:

"Dear Princess Celestia, I am happy to report that the dragon has departed our fair country"

The post can be found here; http://mlpforums.com/topic/1680-equestria-country-or-world/

This does make me curious as to what the name of their actual world is now. :P

Equestria is a country on a world in an alternative dimension. Magic, not science is the tie that binds reality. In this dimension, the sun and moon are constructs that rise and fall by magical command. That means the world does not revolve but stays motionless in the sky.

In our dimension, our sun is a star only very close up. all the stars are suns only very far away. In Equestria the sun is not necessarily a star. Further that is nothing indicating that the stars are suns at all. They could really be the campfires of the gods.

The world of Equestria may be flat or round. we really do not know. Magic is the real deciding factor here. It governs the weather and the seasons. All ponies have some measure of magic simply by living there (see Physiology 101 in my sig). Magic on this scale changes everything we take for granted in this world.

I'm sure Twilight once refered to Equestria as "Our fair country" or something along those lines, and judging from the name and that most of the population is ponies, I would say each country in this show's "world" belongs to a different animal, Equestria being the pony/horse/donkey/mule country.

By looking at the map id say its canonically a continet and kingdom is the same thing.

Maybe its the only land on the planet they live on so they call the Planet Equestria as well. Imagine it being like Europe in the 14th century when thier landmass was known.....It may be like that too and there is another land of Ponies.
