Quest to make a gaming PC!

FALCON PUNCH

Recommended Posts

So I have been thinking about this for a while but I think I will now go ahead with it now I am going to build a gaming PC because I feel my current PC is not up to the standards for the games I want to play so any tips? have any experience in this kind of stuff?

Well any way the PC I am going to make will be able to play BF3 at medium settings (its going to be a budget £300 PC) and here are the items I will be purchasing.

This will be completed in about 6 months because I am kinda busy at the moment.

Intel Core i3-2120 CPU: http://goo.gl/4ByKQ

Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 Motherboard: http://goo.gl/RiIfW

Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 Graphics Card: http://goo.gl/6wvOH

PNY Optima 4GB RAM: http://goo.gl/bWL0W

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB Hard Drive: http://goo.gl/Oa48I

Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500W Power Supply: http://goo.gl/k4Cqm

Antec Three Hundred Case: http://goo.gl/Yt7so

Sony DVD Burner: http://goo.gl/NAEnE

This would be pretty bad for your money..... but a decent gaming computer.

First off, you mother board supports PCI X2 and your video card is PCI X 3. So it would still work, but you are spending more than you should(and you won't get even near max performance), you should rather buy a PCI X 2 Video card for lower price.

Intel is overpriced. I would try looking into AMD. Same performance, lower price.

If you are to buy the intel 3, i would rather go with the intel 5 because intel 5 doesn't support Hyper-Threading, which can slow down your FPS.

Also, ram should be about 8GB. Just for comfort of not running out of space.

(Suggestion for video card, this is MUCH better, but it is slightly more expensive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948)

If you can afford it, run the system on an SSD drive. Startup and programs you run with this will function faster than with a normal harddrive.

Btw, I just ordered my components a couple of days ago. Here it is: http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=751605

But I won't be using that case. I'll be using the CM Storm Trooper.

Yeah I am probably going to upgrade that to about 12 gigs of ram.

not to brag or anything, but i have a £1000 pc and it only has 6gb of ram, so i think 12 will be very good, and that's what i'm gunna upgrade after the 1 year of warrenty is ran out. (so i can open the pc and upgrade it like that) I think that PC's are the master system so if you think that the pc is rubbish or not doing as well as you hoped you can always upgrade and sell the old parts, but i kind of have to agree with the other guy, it's not the best, but if it works for you then i see that it's a good deal if you have the enjoyment out of it.

Hmm well I am going to stick with intel because I know more about them and I have used them before

Thanks for the help!

by the way I like your signature fallout 3 for the win!

Though a bit pricy it is a good spec setup.

Also though, I would invest in increasing RAM memory since its a vital part for CPU processing and will help with heavy gameplay.

By the way: why do you have a jontron pic as a icon, you a fan :D

I am going to upgrade it to at least 6 gigabytes of RAM but I hope to upgrade it to about 12 because i am going to play some of those games that just require more ram.

And I am a fan :)

What about the HD?

If you're gonna play a good amount of different games, a TB drive would be another investment unless you're just into a certain amount of games.

Possibly I may get 1 TB but I don't really have that many games that need to much memory so possibly I may have that as a upgrade in the future

I recently finished my new pc build (http://mlpforums.com...c/29484-new-pc/)

I'm sure you've already done it, but just in case, don't forget to add OS and Thermal paste to your list, also you may want to consider adding a CPU fan, the stock ones are laughable.

Also regarding RAM, by all means upgrade to 8GB but anything more is overkill for those specs, i ran 9GB of RAM in my old build and only ever ended up using all of it when i had multiple games open or when rendering multiple HD videos, which i doubt those specs could handle.

If you're going with intel, go with the i3 3220. It pretty much the same however its the Ivy Bridge derivative so better thermals, lower power draw and slightly higher peformance than the 3120. And as you're playing BF3, every bit of performance helps.

EDIT: If it's gonna take 6 months, save up some more and go for Haswell, Intels upcoming CPU arch. It's going to have several new instructions that will boost performance among other things.

If you are to buy the intel 3, i would rather go with the intel 5 because intel 5 doesn't support Hyper-Threading, which can slow down your FPS.

BF3's multiplayer is one of the few games that can use Hyperthreading to its advantage, or so I've read numerous times on AT forums.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?
