The future of Chrysalis' character.

I made a similar topic a long time ago, asking whether or not Chrysalis should become a recurring character for season 3. However, this topic relates more specifically to her character, in terms of personality and more importantly, her role in the show.

 

You see, I do not see it as out of the question for Chrysalis to return in season 3. The way she was defeated really opens up that possibility.

 

However, this presents a problem. If she was to return, her ability to pose a threat to Equestria would have to be somewhat reduced in the light of the obvious fact that there's going to be a new big bad in the next season, as well as the likely return of Discord. Sure, she can still be powerful and pose a threat, but for a second time around, she would need to be toned down. An example would be like making her more funny or laid back. I'd personality like to see her having a daughter, a princess, perhaps as her morality pet that brings out her soft, maternal side.

 

The way I see it is that Chrysalis will definitely return as a villain with a new diabolical plan, but in the grand scheme of things, she'll never be as big a threat as s he was in Canterlot Wedding. She's had her time in the spotlight, so really, I see it as being all downhill from here for her. This is, and I'm sure most of you have been on tvtropes, known as 'Villain Decay' http://tvtropes.org/...in.VillainDecay. I can definitely see her suffering from this if she returns a few more times. It may not be as much for some villains, and this show does have good writers who can mostly avoid it, but as a kid's show that is light-hearted for the most part, I think we can safely say she's reached her peak as an MLP villain. She and her army may just end up being the Green Pigs to the ponies' Angry Birds.

 

But these are just my thoughts. What are yours on the future of Chrysalis' character in the show?

I think Chrysalis should return as a character, that isn't necessarily a villain, but like a inside look on the Changeling Kingdom. Maybe the last 2 episodes will leave a cliff hanger just introducing the Changeling empires 2nd attack on Canterlot, this doubled the trouble because of whatever villain were seeing in S3.

Well, I'd love to get a look inside the Changeling hive (I've always pictured them living in a hive since they resemble insects so much). And perhaps they could find a way to work her in without completely repeating the finale. In other words, instead of disguising herself she could send in her changelings as spys or something.

Ewww no, we don't need Chrysalis to become laid back or anything. We have Discord for that. As for a daughter, again no I don't see how that would work out unless she acted more or less like Chrysalis herself.

Really? She appeared once in the whole show. That'd be like saying after the first time Spider-Man fought Venom Marvel thought

"Nah there's nothing else we can do with a villain that has all of Spidey's abilities, knows everything about him, and is twice as strong." I want to go into the Changeling Hive or Kingdom or whatever. If Chrysalis attacks again it would only make sense if it was bigger and better then her last attack. This time she knows what she's up against, she know what the Mane 6 can do.

 

Also what's this about a new villain? I don't remember anyone at Hasbro/Hub saying there would be one.

I have to agree with N-Harmonia on this one. I don't want to see Chrysalis come back and being laid back and stuff. She would want to get back at them for beating her. As for a child, that could work. Like maybe they would want to find another source of food or feel bad for what they have been doing. So something like that would be cool.

I highly doubt Chrysalis will be returning, and I doubt the fact that we'll ever see anything about the changelings again.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there have been any villains that have ever returned to the show after making an appearance elsewhere. This is also rather true with any background character that was introduced in past episodes. We hardly ever see Pumpkin Cake and Pound Cake. We rarely see Owlicious. Trixie hasn't even been mentioned. Etcetera, etcetera.

 

The closest thing to a reappearance of a villain would be Luna Eclipsed, which the idea of a villain returning and not being a bad person anymore was already implemented. Despite what a lot of fans seem to say, My Little Pony is still a kids' show. The idea of showing the life of an already proved to be "bad" character would be too confusing for children to take on. It would ruin the "Good vs. Bad" concept, or at least, confuse young ones about who is right and who is wrong. Justifying bad acts is no good, and the episode would just be boring if it were about her and her army. So that's out of the question. Her returning as a villain would just prove to be laziness of the writers, because they couldn't be arsed to make another big bad guy, so that's out of the question. And I really can't see any other reason why she would come back.

 

Each of these non-main characters that we see are only introduced to the show because they are there to prove a point/help prove a point. Discord's character was to help bring out the plot in which forced Twilight to realise the value of friendship again, and to yada yada yada, morals morals... Chrysalis was implemented into the show for the purpose of being Cadence's fake, because without a fake Cadence, there would be none of that suspicion that Twilight Sparkle had about her, and thus no moral that you should trust your instinct, even if others aren't listening... more yada yada... My point is made, pretty much.

 

As much as I hate being a Debby Downer, I'm going to have to say that I would probably place money on her NOT returning. There would be no reasoning behind it, and the show hasn't proven to revisit characters from the past.

 

I might be wrong, though. You never know. Probably not gonna happen, though.
