My dude's an engineer. I'm fairly sure you can adjust, or just flat-out get into the RP with the character you have.

Okay so i really would like to join this roleplay, the problem is at the moment i don't have a fantasy roleplay character, i just have a casual one.  I was wondering if it had to be a fantasy based character.

 

Applejack is a cowgirl that works on a family farm. Aside from the "peasant farm boy" archetype, that's pretty antithetical for a fantasy setting. In fact, a lot of the characters in this show don't act or talk like something out of Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings. The one exception is Princess Luna, who is deliberately shown to be out of place in modern Equestria.

 

It's one of the subtle things I love about this setting. It is definitely a fantasy setting. It has mythological creatures, magic is omnipresent, and ancient artifacts and civilizations are hidden in the cracks. However, unlike most settings of this kind, civilization has not stagnated. Yes, it's probably so the target audience can feel connected to the characters more, but it's still refreshing to see a definitive fantasy world advance beyond the Medieval technological and societal stage.

 

So whatever character you have can work into this situation. Hell among the Mane Six, only half would qualify as "traditional" fantasy heroes. (AJ, Twi, and Dash more or less.) Yet all of them have proven to be helpful and capable when the situation call for it.

. I beg to differ my friend! I'm apart of two ongoing RPs that are both expansive and still going strong. One is set in the Equestria equivalent of Ancient Rome. With a barely foiled invasion by the Changelings in the past and spies in the present. Filled with glorious Gladiators and inscrupulous Senators. The other has me with Daring Do on a pirate ship and every other line or character is an homage to Pirates of the Carribean. With me throwing in every other pirate related anime, play, and movie I can think of . . . AND THAT ONE'S A DATING SIM!

Cosmo read about the Sword in an old tome in the Canterlot Library. The idea of anypony having it was frightening, but the pony whose been attacking others for the sword.... "I can't let someone like him get his hooves on it. Let see how he handles my swords..." Cosmo retrieves his blades; A silver colored katana named Altiar, and two obsidian long knives called The Black Swans.

Kind of heavy on the dark over tones a bit aren't we? I mean, if that's your character in real life, I don't mean to personally attack you. It's just with somepony like me, you would like at the smiling, light-hearted, polite stallion and you wouldn't expect him of being a skilled duelist. The reason for this is two fold. One, that's closer to my actual bearing. And two, nopony on the show acts like a grim avenger out to do justice. Mare-Do-Well is probably the closest we got to that.
