Emerald Flame 381 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 Honestly, it seemed completely unnecessary to me. It seemed odd that Twilight would sing about passing a test when she just found out that she'd be responsible for keeping Equestria safe again. The reprise suffered from the same problem. You just saved an entire empire from a tyrant, and you're singing about how Twilight passed her test? If that overshadows what happened in the Crystal Empire, the mane six need to start getting their priorities straight. I gotta say though, I like how Spike finally did get to sing, even if he wasn't used to the best of his potential. There was nothing I'd accept for Spike's first song other than a duet with Twilight, and I got it.
Acoustic Cloud 2,202 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 I loved it except... for spike. I preferred the one at the end of the episode with the whole gang singing in on it. Though technically it wasn't the "failure and success song" and just the "success song"
Marshmallow 1,137 November 21, 2012 Share November 21, 2012 It was alright, but it fell a bit flat compared to the other songs to me. Spikes parts were pretty cheesy and somewhat annoying. There's also the fact that we had all heard the entire song months before the actual episode, so that completely killed the effect of surprise which is one of the neat things about the songs in the show. "There was me, that is Pinkie, and my three droogs, that is Rarity, Rainbow, and Fluttershy, and we sat in the Ponyville Milkbar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening." Whofch 128 November 21, 2012 Share November 21, 2012 First playthough I was disappointed. Second plus, I thouroughly enjoyed it (with the reprisal included that is). Never listened to it before the actual episode came out so it was all new to me. Would rather Twilight didn't do the maths thing in the middle of it though. We were meant to rule together, little sister......
duidamasterXD 9,627 November 21, 2012 Share November 21, 2012 Actually, now that I think about it it seems like the main purpose of the song was to set up the reprisal to wrap up the second episode, which it did do a pretty good job at.
Whimsical 24 November 24, 2012 Share November 24, 2012 (edited) It was nice that Spike finally got to sing, but I admit it, I don't really like his voice that much. I love Twilight Sparkle's singing voice, but I felt like they could have made a better song. This wasn't one of their best songs (compared to Winter wrap up, this day aria, at the gala). Rarity's voice was so beautiful though - I think that's the best of her voice I've heard so far! Even better than art of the dress. Rainbow Awesome Dash 29 November 24, 2012 Share November 24, 2012 I absolutely loved the song! I would have liked it better without Spike though. Whenever Twilight sang though, it was amazing.
MorningFlash 214 November 24, 2012 Share November 24, 2012 I loved it to be quite honest, definitely in my top 10 MLP songs of all time. I loved the reprise as well as the first one. It was nice seeing Rarity sing aha 1 Credit to Lunia
Stellafera 3,836 November 24, 2012 Share November 24, 2012 (edited) Failure song: Ehh... Success Song: BEST. SONG. EVER! I loved it from the moment I heard it. It has such a jaunty tune and pace, and sorry Spike, but the Mane 6 are better singers than you are. Sunny Fox 5,950 November 24, 2012 Share November 24, 2012 I think it was good that Spike didn't turn out to have a great singing voice. It fits in with my previous impressions of him. He's the kind of person (pony... dragon... oh, you know what I mean!) who puts a lot of heart, rather than talent, into their singing. "I've taken my share of licks" was an interesting line. It's a rather uncommon expression these days. Personally, I found the "Save the Crystal Ponies" song to be superior, with the excellent harmonizing of all six ponies, but each pony still getting their own part. Technically, the same is true of "Prepared for This", in the reprise at least, but I think "Save" had the better melody. 1 Happy minion of The Fabulous One! : Fluttersweet : 60 November 24, 2012 Share November 24, 2012 Okay, I know everypony keeps comparing the Failure Success song to This Day Aria- This Day Aria being one of my all time favorite MLP songs, I don't think it's fair if I compared this to that. Personally, I liked it. The animation where Twilight sings "Will I fail or will I pass, I can't be sure?" The detail in her mane and tail were just... phenominal. Some of the BEST animating I've seen from MLP. The song in itself was serious while remaining somewhat lighthearted. I overall really enjoyed it.
PonyPowaX1000 69 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 I actually like the song, especially the reprise, but in truth when listen to music i pay more attention to the instrumental maybe that's why.
khaine21x3 789 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 I really love the song. The lyrics aren't too grimdark while the tone and lyrics is just emotional enough, I especially loved rarity's voice in the reprise.
ShyForever 284 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 I enjoy this song very much. I'd never just not listen to it when it appears. When I first heard it, there was big problems for me. I wish somepony else knew how much pain I was in trying to figure out what "test" Twilight might have failed!
