How far is TOO far when you're a brony?

Hmm, not sure what I could add that hasn't already been stated. As long as you keep your priorities in order, and don't jeopardize your quality of life, go all in, I say. In fact, I've found being a Brony has actually made me more centered in life, and made me a better person overall. For one, being around all these great artists, writers, and musicians has made me want to better my own artistic skills. I'm actually looking into learning an instrument right now, something I probably never would've done had I not become a Brony.

As for merch, I own some. I've got a lanyard, a belt, a hat, and a Dr. Hooves shirt (soon I'll also get that same Rainbow Dash hoodie posted on page one...once my Hot Topic Hot Cash is useable), as long as I can budget it. I only use a debit card, never credit, and once all my living expenses are paid, maybe once a month or so I'll use some leftover spending money to buy myself a little MLP-related treat. Again, priorities. I wear my stuff proudly, too. And you know what? So far I've gotten nothing but compliments, even from non-bronies. I'm also making an OC, play the Gameloft game on my iPhone, and enjoy fan art, music, videos, and stories, as long as it doesn't interfere with my other activities.

On another note, I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking about a MLP tattoo. A cutie mark does sound pretty sweet. I've also got this dream that one day in the distant future, when I can afford a small plane (knock on wood!!), I'll Rainbow Dash-ify it a bit, either with something on the cowling or the tail.

As long as your life is left more enriched as a whole in the end by being a Brony, you're doing it right. smile.png

You can never go to far! IMO take what you love and go to the end of the earth and back with it! I'm like IN love with MLP I would marry it if I could :3

When you murder all of the non-bronies with a rusty chainsaw while screaming the Equestrian anthem and dressed in a Pinkie Pie costume. If you reach that point you may be over doing it a little. :)

With any fandom, if you're neglecting important things in life or your quality of life goes down as a result of your fandom activities, it's time to put down the Rarity plushie and rethink the direction your life is going. Collecting things isn't a big deal, going to cons isn't bad either. However, if you're spending so much money on pony merchandise that you cannot make rent payments, then you're going too far. Likewise if you skip work just to watch a new episode. If you're a student and you skip studying just to go to these wonderful forums until the wee hours, then you're going too far. I've seen people do all these things when it comes to anime, and I really wouldn't be surprised if there's some brony out there doing similar.

I agree with everyone who says that it's not a problem if you're not doing any harm to anyone.

I'd love to get an MLP cover for my phone, though. That'd be so awesome :)

It's too far when you treat MLP like it's more than just a good show. I mean I've seen people that treat it like it's gods gift to man and that they are charged with the duty to defend it on youtube.

I just watch the show, I like the show and I watch fan content and stuff, but I don't think I'm going to ever become someone who totally ignores everything else except watching the show and I don't really care for stuff like tattos :P. I dunno if I'll even get any figurines or stuff like that of pony's even. Who knows though.

I think to far is when you place MLP above everything else in your life, Family, friends, having enough money to live on, important arrangements ect.

The only time I've heard people use pony vernacular is at conventions and meetups, and given the pony theme of these events it's understandable. Bronies saying things like that during everyday conversation with each other is fine too as long as they're both comfortable with it, just so long as they don't let it bleed into their non-brony interactions. Because everybody I know in the real world is aware of me being a brony, I like to say things like "don't look a gift horse in the mouth," "stop horsing around," "a dog and pony show," etc. I'm don't do anything to make an MLP connection, but they put it all together themselves and find it funnier because of it.

If somebody wants an MLP tattoo I don't see that as being more obsessive, excessive, or weird than a tattoo of anything else important to them. People cosplay everything. Bronies aren't uniquely obsessive in that, and it's not strange to make clothing like a fictional character wears and wear it to a social event dedicated to that sort of thing. Costume parties have been a thing for centuries; cosplay could be considered a twist on that.

The amount of money people can reasonably spend on MLP merchandise depends on their level of income and necessary expenditures. As many have stated before me, as long as you are taking care of what you need to survive then the rest is up to you. I drove 6.5 hours to make it to Bronycon this year. Some people might think that's a bit extreme, but I had certain expectations of it beyond being a simple hang-out spot for bronies. In short, it changed my life in a very positive way, in a way that I can't value monetarily. It was something I felt that I absolutely needed to do, and I felt vindicated upon its conclusion. There was something missing from my life I believed I could find there, and did, and if somebody can't understand that then it's probably because they haven't had to do without it.

I didn't go out with my friends to hang out a few days ago. Instead, I watched 3 episodes of MLP.

Yeah I know it's not really that big of a deal, but I kind of regret that I wasted and hour and 30 mins watching re-runs of ponies xD.

Some days people feel like staying at home alone and doing nothing. That's alright. You don't have to avail yourself of every opportunity for socialization. All you have to watch out for is that you don't trade a healthy social life (if you already have one) for reclusion.

I'd say that surgically grafting a horn or wings onto your body might be pushing it. :P

Seriously, though, I think that tattoos are a bit much, but I'd never tattoo myself with anything.

If you neglect you actual life for anything, not just including ponies, it's going too far! I'm glad you posted this, what a great topic. Here, I have a few I've thought about already:

NON-STOP PRETENDING THEY'RE AN ACTUAL PONY: I don't understand when someone won't come out of their RP or break character. I don't mind RPs at all, but...It makes me question if they really believe they are a pony. It's just bizarre to me. (this applies for furries too)

not as much as the other thing but...

"CLOPPING": I understand sex-ified anthro ponies. I don't care about, or mind that. I'm an anthro artist as well, I just see ponies as anthros, and yes anthros can be sexy. It's more bizzare to me when people try to make just regular quad ponies sexy but still, that's fine. I'm even fine with the 'clopfics' and clop art but the thing is, why the hell are you telling me about your masturbation habits!?! I DO NOT CARE. Personally, I think it's gross and annoying. I hate to say this, but it's seems like a way to make cloppers feel okay about the fact that they're masturbating to ponies by talking about it constantly. I feel like being a clopper defines their entire brony status. Do they even watch the actual MLP episodes, or are they just clopping all the time? When they talk about it so often and with such and volume, they just look like horny weirdos. I'm FINE with cloppers, just...why do they talk about it so much? WHY?

If I could get a functioning set of wings grafted onto me...hell yes I'd totally do it. And that's answer would be the same regardless of if I were a brony or not. It's just that now that I'm a brony I'd like them to be in a nice shade of sky blue.

But I think that's just the aviator in me...

A horn? Even if it were somehow actually magical, I'll pass...
