Galaxia 18 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 (edited) I thought I might post a conversation I had today and hear everyone's thoughts on it. Want to know what I find amusing? MLP is now all fan service but the entire cast save for Andrea Libman, Tara Strong, and Lauren Faust (She plugs her Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls a lot at conventions, which isn't too bad of a idea) because of the idiots at /mlp/, /ponychan/, tumblr, reddit, 9fag, etc. I find that most things are the "I watch the show but avoid the community" but now it's "I love the community and the content creators, but avoid the show" It's a bit weird. I don't see how you can love this horrid fanbase, but whatever. I'm more of a "I have a group of ponies and a few pony websites I go to, but other than that eh. The show's alright and some of the cast is pretty cool." It's more-so the content creators. I mean, sans drama, this is the best community for art and fanworks by a mile. I suppose, but the drama kills it when it prevents some of my favorite pony artists/musicians from working and causing two to leave. Yeah. I'm pretty much the same way in regards to making friends here. I've had 10-15 people I've talked to since I joined the community, but any time I've reached out to find more friends I've basically seen the level of retardation you see in the Sonic or Furry fandom Yup. They're worse since they blend a lot. Thoughts on the subject? Edited November 27, 2012 by Thereisnospoon303 Excess vulgar language isn't needed. Silver Bells 78 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 it's been going okay so far, even though there were some bad episodes during its run. i haven't watched all of the episodes so that's pretty much all i have to say on this matter. naivarr.tumblr.com
NavelColt 22,879 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 (edited) Don't particularly agree with this much, and I haven't seen any of the morons here I've seen in the Sonic fandom. Something I would know plenty about, being a Sonic fan since thirteen. There's bad exceptions here and there, but I don't see the fanbase as going down-hill or anything. There's two sides to every coin, and every fandom has plenty of bad as well as good. You must not be reading the same fanfiction or watching the same roleplayers as me, because I've seen plenty of good ones :3 You can't judge a fanbase by the negative.

I personally don't like role-players in general. And although I haven't read a whole lot of fanfiction, the popular ones like Rainbows Station or My little rainbow dash are both pretty bad, and people are talking about making movies out of them. The real topic at hand is that the show is catering too much to the fans now. The easter eggs were cool, but it's gotten to the point where the whole show is fan-service

The way I can tell that there's more and more fan service is that you're hearing a lot more of a certain word; "confirmed" Ponies in socks confirmed! Hands confirmed! More or less formality, anyway :3 If you see the show some way that I don't, it's no skin off my back. Seems more or less like more easter eggs. If you're seeing them more, and that somehow deteriorates the show for you, that's too bad, but as for myself and most people, it doesn't seem to be causing issues. If it turns to a point where entire character conversations, entire episode plot lines, scenery, villains, new reoccurring character ideas, etc begin to turn into nothing but fan service, then I'll be more inclined to see where you're coming from.
Evilshy 5,090 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 I don't have a problem with the fan service. Yeah, it's there, but it's not like it's the entire show. They're good at balancing it, throwing a little Derpy, a Vinyl Scratch return, a fandom reference here and there, but they aren't going overboard. I don't think we have a problem until the fanservice starts detracting from the actual stories and stuff. As of now, we're nowhere near that. I think that Ponies is pretty much the sonic fandom. - Shitty OCs - Bad fanfiction - Bad roleplayers Welcome to every fandom ever. 16 Signature now 99% less edgy! Those are totally different. Nobody makes OCs or RPs about those, which are pretty much restricted to internet cultures, and generally just cartoons, anime, video games, etc, as well. The only one of those you posted with significant internet presence is Dr. Who, which does have an unusually large amount of fanfics, OCs, RPs, etc for a live action series. Oh, also, while all of those might have more fans, they don't really have a very big dedicated fanbase. Edited November 26, 2012 by Evilshy 6 Signature now 99% less edgy! Commander Urdnot 2,680 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 Your thread title is misleading. I came here expecting to talk about where the show is heading, and all I got was a post with a conversation that was about you complaining about the fandom. You haven't even talked about the show, or have even tried to explain why you think it's "Nothing but fan-service." All you've done was bash the fandom, Andrea Libman, Tara Strong, and Lauren Faust. That's not a fair comparison, because you can ignore the bad people, fanfics, OCs, roleplayers, or whatever in a fandom. Personally, that's exactly what I do. I just don't bother with the crap.

One 498 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 I found it funny that it came up as one of the first results when I typed in "down slope.png". But yeah, so far season 3 (I just got done watching episode 3 and 4) has been pretty bad in my mind, and the worst part is, only 13 episodes... So only 9 episodes left for mlp to redeem its self in my mind. I have to say that season 3 feels like it is more directed at bronies, and not at what they where originally directed at, changing it a lot. I'm not to fond of it. 2 This is a signature. One 498 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 Thanks for agreeing without being an asshole. I think it will devolve to something like Simpsons or Futurama. One of those adult cartoons. I feel like I just missed an argument, that maybe I should go back and read. But thanks... I guess? Also, I could see it turning into something like that, as long as Hasbro makes money, they will do it. (Basic function of any company) This is a signature.
