My First Vector

so i finally decided to site down and try to use Incscape and i have done my first ever Vector of my OC Whirlwind

here it is took me just under 3 hours

 

so plz let me know how i did i can already pick out quite a few flaws already tho like the obvious ear

 

and here's the stuff i used as reference

and the image i used to help

i had to wing it with the wing

wow, very nice for a first vector.

 

to be picky, there are SOME mistakes in the vectoring, hardly noticeable. just remember, use as little anchor points as possible.

 

those mistakes are acceptable (i made them beggining vectors XD)

Well that certainly dumps on my first vector attempt in GIMP!

Seriously though nice work As has been said before there's a few things that are hardly noticeable that could stand to be corrected but it's otherwise brilliant. How long did this take?

Well I always do these little findings of errors when I look at vectors.

Anyways, the vector is pretty good for a first time. As Reversalx said, try use as few anchor points as you can.

 

A little tip for you which is really helpful and which I always do is, when you are done with the vector, hide the reference picture and set the background to black.

 

• The red circles shows where you have not filled the pony correctly all the way out to the outlines.

• A pony's wings never has an edge, they are always rounded, even at the tip. (See blue) (There's the same misstake to the bottom left of the wing too.)

• The shine thingys in a pony's eye are always lighter than the gradient. A tip is to instead of trying to get colors that looks good set the top shine to the color FFFFFF32 and the bottom to FFFFFF98. (See yellow)

• The outlines on the pony are always the same and doesn't change no matter if the body part is further away than another. In the purple circles you can see that you have a wider width on the outline on the legs to the left than you have for the ones in the back. Also in the small circle you can see where two outlines of different width meet.

• Orange is the ear which you already are aware off.

But it's a good vector Just do more and you'll learn.

Very nice vector! Especially if it's your very first! I refuse to do vectors... they're just really difficult for me to understand for whatever reason.

 

It's really neat seeing how the sketch looks and then the final vector.

Getting used to the pen tool can be a bit tricky so all credit for producing a pretty darn good vector! There's not point me nitpicking as Jokuc has already done that for me.

Thanks for the advice i'm probably gonna make those changed to Whirlwind and maybe try to ad his stubble in some way, and then i'm moving on to Sweetie bell drinking a smoothie.

What do you mean? You waited for me to post.. because I was in the thread or because you wanted to see my opinion on it? In confused, haha. Anyways if you're going to make a vector, make something not too many people have made a vector of already. There's already loads of vectors of Sweetie Belle drinking that smoothie. erm i knew you would come on to this thread and work you magic picking out all the flaws and what not, it was only a matter of time.

as for the Sweetie vector i want to do, it's just so I get a feel for it then I can add other ponies doing the same thing like Fluttershy or any other of the mane six

it's always something I appreciate, how else can i improve, anyway iv'e made some edits and i'm probably gonna make a nice Fluttershy drinking a Smoothie for you to work you magic on :3

Thanks, i used Inscape and you can't make vectors in Gimp because if you tried to enlarge it, it would just blur up ruining the image Edited November 26, 2012 by PonyEcho

Now I'm really bad at vectors, so I can't say anything bad about yours. There's nothing bad to say, anyway, what am I talking about! xD. This is really good for a first one. I'm too impatient to make vectors. I just draw freehand, the way everyone else doesn't ;'D.
