Salem sat in shock upon the ground. "Insects... barbarians... theres just no order with you!" he stood, turning to his fallen team. "What the hell were you doing? You call that defence? We have a disobedient soldier here. It's time to teach them the lesson of their life." he strode to the library door, smashing it open in a single swipe. "This time, back me up."

Timeshift growled.

 

"NOW, EXCUSE ME, BUT QUEEN CHRYSALIS HOOF-PICKED ME TO BE IN CHARGE OF PONYVILLE DEFENSES! And why you would make such a racket is beyond me! Are we changelings not allowed to have free speech? Now, as this is my library now, get. The. Buck. OUT!" 

 Timeshift bucked Salem hard in the stomach, sending him flying out of the library. The other changlings, in fear, bolted out. 

 

"AND STAY OUT!" Timeshift yelled, using her magic to slam the door and lock it.

(Shaddap.)

 

Salem stated in contempt at the newcomer. "You insects never fail to embarrass yourselves with foolish magic." he extended a claw and leered. "And if you'll remember... this is a dictatorship. Free speech is a thing of the past, even for changelings. So... who might you be? You seem to have made quite the entrance..."

(It wasn't magic, it was me walking up behind her. Herp.)

"Standoff, professional card-player, debate-winner, and on occasion, skull-crusher. And I beg to differ that free speech is a thing of the past. Short of killing me, there isn't actually anything you can do to shut me up, and my speeches are ALWAYS free."

Timeshift growled. Perfectly what she had expected.

 

"Idiots, idiots, and I'll say it again, idiots." Timeshift said with a smile. "Personally, unlike you morons, I have a brain. I'm intelligent. And my special talent, if changelings even have those, is bending time. I can outrun anypony, so don't think of attacking. And I personally am not a fan of Queen Chrysalis, but as being in charge of the defenses and having prior knowledge of those elements that are our biggest threat, i'd advise that you don't destroy a valuable piece of knowledge. And being disobedient? Hah! Am I in trouble for sticking my nose out my own front door? Idiots..." 

 

Timeshift went back to reshelving the books, and went back to her reading on how to be sneaky.

Inkscape butted her way between quarreling two. Turning on them both, she said, "Now you two listen to me! This is no time to be arguing. We don't have time for that. We're all comrades in arms here, regardless of who we are or where we come from. Everypony has right to free speech, and if you have any opposition you can answer to me, understand?" She took a breath and looked both of them in the eye. "If you have nothing better to do, I'll have somepony give you something to do. So heed my words and shut up!" She snorted and returned to her seat, her nose in the air.

Standoff closed the door and locked it before going back to Timeshift. "What was all that? Do you know those gobs? And what are you talking about, hand-picked by Her Swissness?" He eyes Timeshift, and subtly changes his hoofing to be ready for a surprise strike.

Salem scowled at his disheveled colleagues. "Bending time? That seems like an awfully large power to be wielded by an insect. Why are none of my soldiers graced with such talent?" he continued without waiting for an answer, "But more to the point, that was a pony in there. Are they, or are they not the enemy?"

 

There were a few half hearted nods from his troops. Salem's scowl grew even deeper.

 

"The correct answer, you parasites, is yes! Now, your first mission is to arrest that pony for disobedience against an officer!" once again, Salem struck down the door with his tail, and his seven strong unit of changeling footsoldiers hurried in.

 

Salem stood outside, listening for the telltale signs of combat. Naturally, his unit would most likely be defeated by the pony; he looked stronger than any of his group. The point was, that they were getting training. Then he could step in and finish the job...

 

The changelings stated at the two in the library, collectively unsure of what to do. Eventually, one of the braver ones blurted out;

 

"You.. You're under arrest!"

"Oh Celestia I hate having to do this. RED! GET IN HERE! WE HAVE SOME CHUCKLEHEADS TO BEAT UP!" There is the sound of an impact in the other room, and a brown pony wearing a helmet sticks his head out, and says one word. "Vere." Standoff pointed at the door, and in doing so clotheslined the first attacker.

At the sight of Red, the changelings suddenly realised that they were in trouble. They desperately looked to Timeshift for help fighting the two, and a couple transformed into crude imitations of their attackers. These changelings were trainees, and they were about to enter the fight of their lives.

"I vas in a good MOOD before you MORONS came in HERE and schtarted RUINING everysing you TOUCH!" Red waded through the changelings, punctuating his tirade with punches. He noticed Salem outside the door and narrowed his eyes. "Zis is your fault. DIE."

Salem raised an eyebrow, examining the carnage before him; His unit lay in tatters, defeated by Red. "Impressive." he announced, examining a claw. "I thought they'd last longer. Not much longer, but..." he stopped, and looked up to red, leering as usual. "So, this seems to have gone very nicely for me. Not only have I seen the full potential of my unit, but I've also found two rebels." he started to walk closer, reptilian claws scratching on the ground. "Unlike those primitive insects, I won't be so easy to... 'beat up'..."

Salem laughed humourlessly. "So, you turn to weapons then? Are you ponies not skilled at claw to claw combat? Then again... you look very... soft like all mammals." he raked a claw along his reptilian hide. "Unlike you, I have very thick skin... literally. Maybe you'll have a bit more trouble wielding that weapon against me..." he glanced over to Timeshift. "How about a little help bookworm? Though it may not seem it, we're both working for the same side here..."

While Salem was distracted, Standoff grabbed him by the throat. "Now you listen, lizard. You can act like you're better than me all you want, but I'm losing my patience with you and your whole damn patrol. Go back to Her Swissness and tell her that if she's going to cause trouble, she better come and do it herself. Am I clear?"

Salem quickly regained his composure, and spoke directly to the two. "For all I care, Queen Cockroach can do as she pleases. Do you really think that I want to be here? Siding with insects to exterminate emotional mammals?" he tutted, turning away from them. "I'm just doing my job. If I had my way, you'd both be free to kill each other... but that's just not the way it works. If I want to return to my beloved wasteland, and a REAL unit to order around, then I'm going to have to arrest every single one of you rebels, starting with you two."

 

He paused, then added; "Arrest or kill that is. Whichever comes first."

Salem quickly regained his composure, and spoke directly to the two. "For all I care, Queen Cockroach can do as she pleases. Do you really think that I want to be here? Siding with insects to exterminate emotional mammals?" he tutted, turning away from them. "I'm just doing my job. If I had my way, you'd both be free to kill each other... but that's just not the way it works. If I want to return to my beloved wasteland, and a REAL unit to order around, then I'm going to have to arrest every single one of you rebels, starting with you two."

 

He paused, then added; "Arrest or kill that is. Whichever comes first."

"Tell me, Fire. Is it just me, or is he writing checks he can't cash? I say we give him a good shakedown, and if he doesn't change tack, you can do what you like with him. Now help me get him under control." Red sidles up, grinning madly. "You came to ze wrong neighborhood TODAY, arschloch! Now, hold still. I don't vant to kill you. YET." He spins the spike around his hoof, standing loosely with Standoff behind him ready to offer help.

Timeshift smiled.

 

"Why do I have to do everything?"

 

Timeshift stopped time for those around her, tied Salem and Red and he other guy to a tree [iron bars for salem], and then made time flow again.

 

"Well, mr. Salem, i'm happy to annouce that I have caught a rebel. Swissy will reward me greatly. And i'll just say you're a rebel too! A two-for-one deal." Timeshift said with a smile.

 

"So...rebels, you're coming with me unless you wanna get thrown off a cliff. And Salem? I was joking." Yomeshift told Salem, releasing the iron bars. Her magic was alreay exhaust: fact was, her time-warp powers did not allow her to change her form. So she looked like a pony for all time... Whitch bothered her a lot.

Sky chuckled and smirked "That Twilight Sparkle really is a genius". He continued as he gestured Verdana to take a seat, "Meh, don't worry. I'm well prepared for a fight....But not to protect these charming ponies from those changelings" He narrowed his eyes to see Saphina from afar and sighed, "Not for a long time... I'm in the Defensive division, If you want to know".

All right now we're getting some where. Usaf thought after hearing the briefing. He walked over to Rainbow "Alright what is our target for the distraction a simple raid or an actual offensive?"  Usaf asked Rainbow Dash. "And what is our time table? How long do we have for this  before we have to abort?"

Salem looked down at himself, and then at the tree behind him. "Time..." he muttered, before addressing Timeshift.

 

"Good work. I had my doubts about your ability at first, but..." he took note of his unit littered across the ground. "It looks like I could use more soldiers like you... I'll bring a cart to transport these rebels to our barracks." he hesitated for a second. "Where exactly are our barracks? Do you insects even have those?"

Vedana sat down next to Sky Warden, "She is indeed, what do you expect from a unicorn trained under Princess Celestia?" The Blind unicorn said, as he offers a cupcake. "Cupcake?" Vedana asked, offering him a pink cupcake he made with pinkie pie. "its pinkie pies cupcake so I'd eat it if i were you hahahaha."

Sky Warden laughed, "Of course she is" He took the cupcake and devoured in one bite. He kept the cupcake inside his mouth for a pretty long time before he really swallowed it. "Twilight Sparkle" He waved his hoof in a weird gesture, with a mouth full of cupcake, "The sixth element". He swallowed his cake and snorted, "Hope she didn't make a wrong decision about these divisions".

Saphina walked to the table where Sky and Verdana sat with some food which she carried on a tray with her magic. she smiled when she heard Sky laughed and put the tray on the table, "She won't. like Verdana said, she's trained directly by Princess Celestia" she said as she sat next to Sky.

 Vedana smiled warmly, "I am glad to hear somepony agrees with me." The blind unicorn chuckled, turning his head to Saphina. "Besides, Twilight has made the choice for each division...the sooner we get Celestia and Luna back home the better." Vedana looks down upset, "Still, how did this happen?"

"Did she just leave? She just left! After we put our lives in danger for her! The ungrateful little filly! When I get my hooves on her... OH CELESTIA FAUSTING FEATHERBISCUITS!" And just like that, Standoff was out of the ropes, wearing a horrified expression. "Oh no. I thought Zecora stopped that from happening..." Red snapped him out of his funk. "Excushe me? Little help over here?" After Standoff had gotten him down, they set off.

Salem strode proudly into the changeling barracks. He located the main office, knocked and then entered. "Sir." he began, only to be interrupted by the general.

 

"What the hell are y... oh yes, you're that lizard thing they sent aren't you!"

 

Salem scowled. "Yes. A Tondrake... as I was saying, I have captured some rebels! They're secured not far from here, and I request a transport cart."

 

The general laughed. "Transport cart? Just frog march them over here! You tongdrooks clearly don't have much military knowledge!"

 

Salem gritted his teeth, digging his claws into the ground. "Actually... sir... these are a special case. They're dangerous, powerful."

 

Once again, the general laughed heartily. "Too strong for you?! Okay, take a cart!"

 

"Thank you... sir..." Salem hissed. He returned to the outside of the library, accompanied by two changelings pulling the cart. By now, most of his unit had regained consciousness, and they were looking wildly around at the passing ponies. Many of those passing were smiling at the sight of their oppressors defeat, and Salem had to fight himself not to challenge those sly smiles.

 

The prisoners were gone. Salem couldn't help but smile a little at that. They were clearly quite a formidable foe... were all the rebels like that? He set off alone, sprinting through the streets. He had to find them...
