Shakespeare in Love PMV Feedback

I after I saw SteveLeanna's Alternate Best Pictures video:

 

 

 

I was inspired to do this with all of the Season 1 and 2 episodes:

 

 

Other than that, there's no real other reason I did this. I think I did my best possible "editing skills" that I have in mimcking some aspects of Steve's video, but not to the point where I was just flat out no-effort copying.

I like the concept! I have thought of doing something similar myself before. Criticism time:

 

The swelling, emotional music doesn't necessarily fit some of the video later on, and not all of the clips seem to truly represent each episode. Suited For Success is really more about Rarity's overworkedness and stress than her happiness over the outfits.   Lesson Zero is an episode about Twilight; thus, a clip with Twilight, probably in her "worrying" state more than her "absolute bonkers" stage would work better than a Fluttershy one. Hearts and Hooves day had awkward timing with the clock; it's not an episode about clocks! And no Cherilee or Big Mac makes the subject of the episode somewhat confused. Putting Your Hoof Down would be better suited with the group hug between Fluttershy, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie or Fluttershy's regret over her actions as the music builds up, instead of angry Fluttershy. MMMystery on the Friendship Express was an odd choice. Detective Pinkie would have made more sense, I think. Take it or leave it though, since my criticism here is very much subjective.

 

On the other hoof, some of your choices were brilliant. Episodes 15-26 had great choices (especially Over A Barrel and Owl's Well That Ends Well). Cutie Pox had great timing. Episodes 35-42 also had Grade A video clips and gave a great feel for each episode (especially Baby Cakes; I wouldn't have thought of it but it perfectly encapsulates the episode). Good job on A Friend In Deed. 

 

My absolute favorite part of the video was from 46-49. A very creative pick for It's About Time. Fantastic timing and perspective on Dragon Quest, which was the best one and fit the music beautifully. A suitably uplifting moment for Hurricane Fluttershy. Ponyville Confidential just worked. 

 

The last two were just good choices. 'Nuf said.

I wasn't necessarily thinking on how good each clip represents the episode, but what highlight makes me think of the episode. I was more rather trying to make it "cinematic" and "epic" if you will. And I don't exactly like putting clips where characters are in a negative state unless I feel that it fits those natures. Though, how are you to judge what clip doesn't have to do with a specific episode when it is indeed part of a said episode and therefore does have something to do with it?

 

Here are my arguments though:

 

Suited for Success - The episode overall is about Rarity's job as a designer, sure there are struggles, but that's not the feeling the episode wants us to focus on in the end. That she enjoys being a designer and overall has a happy time doing it.

 

Lesson Zero - True, but Fluttershy's "bear wrestilng" is an example of her being able to do things herself and further amplifies Twilight's insecurities of her not being needed in Ponyville.

 

Hearts and Hooves Day - It has to do with the Cutie Mark Crusader's struggle in keeping things under control, a race to the clock.

 

Putting Your Hoof Down - I think it would be a cliche/cop-out to just insert a clip of a group hug, by that logic, I could just put in all of there resolving group hugs from every episode since you feel it fits more, but I just don't think it does. We know Fluttershy has an obvious tear-driven emotional side as evidenced by Griffon the Brush-Off. I felt her showing anger was more "dramatic".

 

MMMystery on the Friendship Express - I just think ninjas are cool/epic, and that clip proved it.
