OC GALA DRESS THREAD IDEA

Scarfy HOOVES

Recommended Posts

Here is a fun idea i had. We would need OC's and *talented artist (which i'm not*

basically people would upload there OC and then a talented artist would create a totally unique and original gala dress for your OC. Kind of like how the mane 6 have there signature dress that reflect them, Idk it was just an idea i had let me know what you guys think.

and for all i know something like this coult already exist so sorry in advance if it does.

Ooh, this sounds like a cool idea! :D

I remember a similar thread where everypony would either describe what their OC would wear to the Gala or create an outfit and upload it, and that was really cool. Still, in order for this to work, we need probably multiple talented artists with lots of time and creative energy on their hooves...and I am not a talented artist...so yeah.

Ohhh! I love this idea. ^^ But as previously mentioned, I assume it'd take not only a lot of hard work but energy and time for those doing it.  So it may need to be some pretty nifty team effort.  I do love this idea though and it'd be wonderful if things came together and worked out! <3

Hmm. I've thought about trying my hand at pony art.

Someone post a link to their OC so I can give it a shot.

One at a time though.

Also, I'm using a cheap tablet to post this, so that's why I'm not using my blue font. I'll fix it later.

Edit: Fixed.

Oh, that sound so cool! But if we do get artists, it might be a lot of work for them, so we'll have to be careful on that. But it sounds cool! And maybe if your OC's a stallion, they can create a unique suit for them or something. :D

I'm sure lots of artists would love to do the job. But I like this idea, so it might work! ;)

I'd be willing to draw a couple, my request thread has become quite popular so I'm guessing people like my work. It would be fun, but I'd have to set a limit on how many I could draw at a time. I'd also need quite a bit of background info on OCs, so they would have to be well developed if I'm going to design something unique for them.

it sounds like a nifty idea, but it also sounds like you'd need to have a plan of some sorts for this whole thing to get off with. depending on the amount of people whose OCs would get designs for dresses (and suits for the stallions), it could end up being too much work for the artists, eventually. but as a concept itself, the idea sounds pretty nifty.

I can possibly help(school may get in the way though). I've already uploaded a Gala dress on my deviantART page(and is currently working on another one) and I can maybe make some for others and submit them (if they want). Keep in mind though, my art style for the eyes is different than the style most MLP artists use. Just look at my avatar for example.

And Night Shine, did the first post on that thread have a picture of a unicorn like the one in my avatar who was wearing a white and rainbow dress?

ehh, i'm not entirely sure how to organize this thing myself, tbh. i'm not really a good project leader. but i guess the first thing to do would be to come up with a basic plan on what to accomplish. in this case, it would be a bunch of artists designing unique dresses and suits for a plethora of OC stallions and mares. but who shall the OCs be? shall it be a free contest where everyone can enter, or should OCs be handpicked so as to spare the artists precious time and work?

speaking of the artists, who should they be? sure, we have skilled visual artists romping around on the forums, but who would give the time and dedication to draw and design clothes? maybe they're good at drawing, but suck at actually designing visually pleasing gowns. so what do you do then? do you hire in creative directors that designs the clothes, for the artists to draw the peoples OCs?

first of all, i think, would be to round up visual artists that have some level of experience with drawing. how you'd get them, i don't know. maybe open a thread asking for hiring positions? after artists are gathered... wait, i forgot to mention, you'd need someone to manage the entire project too, maybe some quality controllants, too. THEN you can get the artists rounded up, discuss project ideas with each other, and such.

then, when you feel you've got a team worthy to take onto the task, you can make a thread about looking for applications of OCs. maybe make the theme a bit strict, make people come up with general concepts they can work around for their OCs. or make it more loose and have a free-for-all application system. this can create mishap though if too many applicants decide to get in on it. maybe you should have a cap system, say 30 or so OCs, for example, then after that, applications are done, and work can be progressed on. maybe make more rounds if this turns out to be a successful project.

should the relationship between OC applicants and the artist team be a strict one or a loose one? should people with OCs have a general creative process in the dress designing, or should it be entirely up to the artist team? who should manage the project? set up deadlines for completion, or make it run through its course?

there's many, many things you can go about it. but as long as the project is well-organized, this could turn out to be a terrific success. as i've noticed, the forums seem keen on collaborative efforts, so it should be able to pull through.

and that's my take on this whole subject.

Judging by your post, you WOULD make a good project leader!

We should also keep the work divided up among ourselves. And depending on the amount of artists we get, there will be a lot of multiplication involved to evenly divide up the work. For example, if we get six artists, then we can take 30 applicants at a time and each artist would get about five requests to work on. And I suggest putting up a thread that hires positions and to become a candidate for acceptance, you have to post some of your own work. We can't just hire someone and it turns out all they can do is make a bunch of scribbles.

I for one think that this would be great idea to have artists do the gala dresses. I for one would love to see my OS's in their gala dresses/suits.

no, i would not make a good leader. i lack the leadership kind of attitude that is required to go through with a group project. i was always the guy who never willingly got picked out in group projects and got stuck with being the awkward third wheel in a group. i'm just giving out ideas that other people probably could handle better than i do. feel free to convince me of otherwise if you think you can, though.
