Star peered across to the town, eagerly awaiting their comrades arrival. When figures began to appear out of the distance he began to feel a bit more at ease. "Helm, they're coming."

 

Helm bolted up from the rivers edge, looking across in the direction Star was gazing into. "How many?"

 

"No more than 5, maybe 6. They've lost quite a few on the way. Maybe some of them haven't even left the Inn."

 

Helm sunk low, knowing that this was a devastating blow to his plans. "We will press on none the less. We are still a company, only now I feel it necessary to tell them the full story."

 

"When will you tell them?"

 

"Come tomorrow I will, for now we must head North. We will wait here till they arrive."

Goldseek looked around, confused. "Any of you scouts know where we are going? I was a bit late, and thus I am unsure of where to go." He looked around for other ponies, not finding any. He hoped that he wasn't lost, especially in a place like this. Guards could be anywhere.

Descant shook his head. "I have no idea, but..." He trailed off, his ears twitching for a moment, his horn glowing ever so faintly. "I've found them." He kept to the shadow, creeping into the shadow of the house across the street, beckoning for them to follow. He then silently moved to the end of the house, and peered out from behind it. Indeed, there was a small company moving away from them down the street, leaving the village. But there were also two guards positioned between them and the rest of the group.  he swore under his breath in an unfamiliar tongue - "Felltith!" - then looked to the other two with him. "I can take care of this. Get ready to cover your ears." He drew out his flute.

After a few minutes of walking, Star, Sturdy and Arrow neared the river. "Hello Star Keeper...And Helm." She chuckled and walked over to the two colts at the beach. "What did we miss ?" She asked, Sitting down next to the river and sticker her back hooves into the cold water.

Descant shook his head. "I have no idea, but..." He trailed off, his ears twitching for a moment, his horn glowing ever so faintly. "I've found them." He kept to the shadow, creeping into the shadow of the house across the street, beckoning for them to follow. He then silently moved to the end of the house, and peered out from behind it. Indeed, there was a small company moving away from them down the street, leaving the village. But there were also two guards positioned between them and the rest of the group.  he swore under his breath in an unfamiliar tongue - "Felltith!" - then looked to the other two with him. "I can take care of this. Get ready to cover your ears." He drew out his flute.

Goldseek looked at the scout, who's name he now knew was Descant, with a questioning look, but still did as he said. What a peculiar time to play some music. Goldseek had heard his music once, last night, at the inn, and it was pretty good, but wouldn't it just catch the guards attention?

After a few minutes of walking, Star, Sturdy and Arrow neared the river. "Hello Star Keeper...And Helm." She chuckled and walked over to the two colts at the beach. "What did we miss ?" She asked, Sitting down next to the river and sticker her back hooves into the cold water.

"Nothing." He said in his gruff tone. "But it seems that most of you are coming. Enough for us to still accomplish this. Once everypony has arrived we will move north and camp in the woods. Once we arrive we must decide whether to continue north to Canterlot or turn west. That will come later."

Descant put his flute to his mouth, and looked at the others. Once he was satisfied that their ears were plugged, he closed his eyes, and he began to play a sweet lullaby. As he did, his horn began to glow, and the guards, hearing it and initially reacting with a bit of a start, both began to slump slightly, dazed looks on their faces. By the end of the lullaby, both sets of eyes had closed, and they had curled up, snoring, where they had been previously been standing guard. Descant stopped playing, and stopped the flow of magic. He looked a little pale as well, but he beckoned quietly, motioning for them to be very, very quiet as they started to move into the street, towards the snoozing guards...

Sweet let him take her hoof, and followed the unvoiced directions as quickly as possible. Once Descant told her, she quickly prepared to cover her ears, but also prepared to whip out her bow and an arrow in case Descant needed backup. She pondered telling the group about the underground tunnel system, but decided it might be a bit too late for that.

Goldseek watched in surprise as the guards fell asleep. Descant beckoned, and Goldseek took his hoofs from his ears and silently followed Descant, being careful not to wake the sleeping guards. The other scout did the same. Goldseek made a mental note to ask her for her name, as it would be quite inefficient to travel with ponies and other creatures of which he does not know the names of.

Seeker had grabbed the pack thrown at him and slung it on his left shoulder so it wouldn't be in the way if he needed to draw his great sword. It had been one of Seekers bad habits, as he soon fell silent and disappeared for a moment  without as much as a word. After a moment he found himself standing at the beach and looked at the group. "Sorry about my slight absence" Seeker spoke as he looked at the group and gave them a nod in apology. "so either north to Canterlot or we turn west." Seeker repeated to himself in a low voice as he began to think slightly, without much thought he found himself at the water's edge and looked around him and gave a small smile as he saw Arrow. "So today's the day we start this adventure." Seeker said as he looked from Arrow to the water the over to the group then back at Arrow.

Arrow nodded. "The beginning of the end of Smaug." She smiled.

"Sorry for leaving so suddenly, I thought everyone had gotten up." She said, Looking down at the ground and making a few blades of grass grow and bed around her hoof.

Goldseek walked to the lake, still following the two scouts. Goldseek was a bit tired, as he lifted his hoof from his ears for a second while Descant was still playing. It seemed almost everyone was here, which was worrying. There is a dead guard on the streets. Someone see's that and anypony still in there are in trouble.

Arrow laughed. "All Dryads are cute so I guess you could say that all Dryads can do it." She said, Smiling. "I'm just kidding. Yes, All Dryads can do this. Well, I think they can...I have only ever met one other Dryad in my life and she could control plants and stuff...So I would assume that all Dryads can do it." She let the grass shrink down to its normal size, then she grabbed her canteen and took a sip of the water inside.

Seeker looked at Arrow with a slight laugh as his ears seemed to move slightly as he heard the hoof steps of three different ponies, with a quick glance threw his peripheral he saw Goldseek, Descant, and Sweet. his attention was brought from the three ponies and back to Arrow as she said that throughout her whole life she had only met one other Dryad. 'were Dryad really that rare in the world, that it could be rare for one of their own to never meet.' Seeker thought to himself as he saw Arrow take a drink from her canteen. "really? that's odd i had always thought that they lived in their own little community together." Seeker spoke as he found himself sitting next to Arrow as he looked out into the river.

When Star Rain heard Seeker call Arrow cute, she couldn't help but laugh a little. She wasn't sure why, but it was just so amusing to her! Then she stopped and held her hoof up to her mouth, eyes wide with surprise. She had never laughed before in her life for real.

Seeker looked at Arrow with a slight laugh as his ears seemed to move slightly as he heard the hoof steps of three different ponies, with a quick glance threw his peripheral he saw Goldseek, Descant, and Sweet. his attention was brought from the three ponies and back to Arrow as she said that throughout her whole life she had only met one other Dryad. Arrow shook her head. "No, Its rare that Dryads meet each other unless their tree's grow in the same area. So there are rare occasions where you may find a group of Dryads but since we...we can't move far from our...Tree...Its, Um, Rare to see others." She pushed a small pebble from the side of the river into the water.

Seeker ear's moved slightly as he heard somepony laugh a bit, but it was quickly put on the back burners of his mind as he saw Arrow.  His mind began to flashback on how she acted at the bar and what she told him, with a quick and single movement he put a comforting claw on her shoulder and gave her a weak smile. "Arrow, if their's anything that you need to talk about or if you just don't wont to say, it's find. I just want you to know that i'm hear if you need someone." Seeker spoke as he looked at her.

"Thank you Seeker." She said.

"I feel like I should give an explanation. Basically...I was separated from my tree. King Sombra. The town near my home all thought I was an evil witch who wants to kill them all. So Sombra told the city that he would get rid of me, and he did. He wanted to gain the towns trust so he separated me from my tree and he burnt it to the ground. I was forced to leave. And of course the town grew into what is now known as the crystal empire." She stared into the river and wiped a tear from her eye. "I could go into much more detail...But I don't think I could handle that."

Just as Seeker watch Arrow start to tear up a bit he used one of his claws as he started to whip her tears away. "It's alright, you don't need to go into more detail. As long you your alright, that's all i care about." Seeker spoke as he gave her a small smile.

Star Rain had read romances from time to time, but this was the first time she got to actually SEE one! She could sense something going on between Arrow and Seeker and whatever that something was, it strangely made her feel warm on the inside. She could also sense some of Arrow's past trauma, almost like her own.

"Then i'll promise you, i will never tell anyone." Seeker said with a small smile as he looked Arrow in eye. he felt Arrow almost slump back into his arms as he tried  to comfort her. "And Thank you Arrow, for sharing this with me." Seeker said as he looked from Arrow to the river, doing so parts of his mind started to play back memories when he had made similar promises to the ones under his command.

"You're a cool dude Seeker." She looked up at him and smiled.

"I wonder when everypony else will get here...I am eager to get going." She stretched her arms, then her wings but she quickly folded them back up hoping nopony noticed.

((Well, anyone who isn't there is going to get left behind.Harsh but I'm not waiting around for a few people. We proceed as planned.))

 

Helm stood at the ready, his face still holding a firm look with no true expression. He would not risk going back to the town, an alarm likely raised. If they weren't here then we would press on.

 

"We must go north, just south of Canterlot. We'll camp on the eves of the Everfree forest."

Descant, Goldseek and Sweet Love all had the good fortune to make it out of the town before the perimeters of which were closed by the guards. Descant saw the meeting point, and excitedly made to hurry to the rest of the group, but... He turned back, and saw that Goldseek's eyes were half closed. "Wedi blino," Descant muttered again, under his breath, again in the strange tongue of one of the deer cities he had studied in for some years... Goldseek must have heard part of the lullaby. "We must find somewhere to stay, to sleep. We'll catch them tomorrow." His ear flicked, and he said, "They're going north."

 

 

((Tolkien based the language of the Elves on the Gaelic Languages, Welsh and Gaelic specifically, and on the Nordic ones, Finnish and Icelandic specifically. Descant studied among the deer for some time, and when he speaks their tongue, which he does often, it will be one of these languages. So far, all I've used is Welsh, and I'll probably stick with Welsh, but I'd imagine he could speak the others, too. I'm under the assumption that we can say the Fan Race of Deer roughly correspond to Elves? I can change it if the Master disapproves.))
